Superman Returns SR wins Five Saturn Awards

It just means that many people saw it, but in terms of the movie going audience, not so much. Considering that ticket sales here are $10.00 a ticket, that ain't much. Superman The Movie made more than it with less theaters, and a way lower ticket sales. Adjusting for today's tickets, Superman the movie made Spiderman 3 numbers. There is a post I show with a link to a site that does ticket adjustments from ticket prices of yesteryear to today.

The facts are that SR opened strongly whereever it opened, but then a week later, it would consitently have a drastic drop, and then all but disapear completely. This means that most of it's money was made in it's first weekend whereever it opened around the world from people who go to see the big new movie. But then after that, bad WOM did it in. It consitently would mave a huge drop the second week and then pretty much disapear shortly after that. Even in the US it was playing in empty theaters weeks after it opened.

So this means it did not have a huge fan base.

If the movie doesnt have a huge fanbase, and let EVERYONE down, how do you explain the fact that it won BEST 2006 MOVIE (yes ahead of all other 2006 movies) in the Total Film Readers (yes READERS, as in EVERYONE who reads the magazine and web-site voted in these awards) Awards, in which thousands of movie fans voted.

And also explain how, if what you say is true, in the thread 'Best Comic Book Movie Ever 2006 Edition' SR came 5th out of over 20 choices?

Please, the movie didnt let everyone down at all, now if you didnt like it, fine, i can accept that, but please dont claim everyone shares your views.

You know, I herd the same thing about you guys about "if this movie is so not liked, then why is it rating so high on IMDB." So I went to IMDB and spent a few hours reading the user comments. Low and behold the bulk of them, I mean like more than 80 percent posted comments about how they hated the movie, or thought it sucked. I am kind of getting sick of hearing how other sites love it, or it got this thing or that, and yet, I go there and it is not the case. I will only go by one indicator and one indicator only. Box office. And the box office sucked on this. Especially compared to other superhero films. Spiderman is the Superman for Marvel, and when I see Spiderman 3 making more money domestically than SR did domestically in a few days, makes me think, no matter what you guys say, that maybe that movie is connecting with people and SR didn't. I mean the only way to guage if a movie connects with the public or not is them going to see it.

But mostly what I see on the net is people saying it sucked, or it was boring or disapointing.

Well go to Amazon.co.uk or Empireonline.com, they love the movie there. And how is Box office an indicator of quality? Are you saying Titanic is the best movie ever?

I know there are people who dislike this movie, but there are just as many who like it, that i am sure of.

Stop with this quality thing. I, and others, have pointed out all the plot holes this film has. To quote you guys, quality is subjective.

I know a lot of people that like or love Titanic. It actually is a good film (as evident by not only it domestic and box office take, but also how many units that thing sold when it came out on video.

We honestly can go on about this all day, but SR sure does seem to have a lot of youtube videos, blogs, etc about people saying it sucks. More than any other film except for the prequels.

Are you sure that is the criteria you want to use? Even though SR underperformed, plenty of people still went to see it. Here is a list of movies that had less people going to see them in 2006 (domestically)...

Happy Feet, Ice Age:The Meltdown, Casino Royale, The Pursuit of Happyness, Over the Hedge, Talladega Nights, Click, Mission Impossible III, The Departed, Borat, The Devil Wears Prada, Dreamgirls, Miami Vice, The Good Shepherd, Little Miss Sunshine, Apocalypto, Firewall

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/yearly/chart/?yr=2006&p=.htm

And guess what...this list isn't comprehensive. Out of 100 movies listed at box office mojo for 2006, SR is ranked sixth. That means it did better than 94 of the 100 movies listed! But I guess all you can focus on is the five that did better. :whatever:

You assume that Superman is DC's most popular hero (like Spider-Man is for Marvel). But I disagree. I would say it is Batman. But even Batman isn't as popular as Spider-Man. When it comes to raking in the cash Spidey is king. :spidey:

Actually the reason he compared it to Spidey is before SR came out, Supes fans would state numerously how Supes is more popular than Spidey and how he would break Spidey's record. While I agree with you that Batman is more popular than Supes in DC, Supes fan tend to think he's the greatest and bash every other superhero that they can to push him up. Just wait til MOS comes out. You'll see more fans bashing Spidey, and to a degree BM. Although Batman won't break any records becuase it's to dark and gritty, though I'm really looking forward to TDK!

I liked it and I don't post there, so maybe it's not like a representative group of people post in one specific place so you can count posts in there and come up with an actual important conclusion.

I will only go by one indicator and one indicator only. Box office.

Well, if nothing back your opinion up, search until you find something.

Now BO numbers will tell you how many people went to see it, but sadly it won't tell you if the movie is good or bad.

And the box office sucked on this. Especially compared to other superhero films.

It did make more than Batman Begins, so of course Batman Begins sucked based on this.

I mean the only way to guage if a movie connects with the public or not is them going to see it.

Then another important question here is what kind of people is connecting.

Because when I see this:

All I can think is how good is that those people making those numbers for the BO were NOT the ones in mind when they did SR.

If we can make conclusions out of BO numbers we could conclude that one movie would really need to be that dumb to "connect" with people.

But mostly what I see on the net is people saying it sucked, or it was boring or disapointing.

So the next time you want to know if you like chicken, you know, all you have to do is go into the internet and start searching how many people likes it so you can know for sure. :yay:

They are plot holes to you though, other may not think so Buggs. You keep going on about BO, but guess what, The Thing, Blade Runner, Braveheart (before its Oscar nomintation) and Fight Club ALL made a lot less money than SR and basically flopped, yet all four regularly achieve high places in 'Best Movie Ever' polls.

I have said it before, i'll say it again, BO has NOTHING to do with quality.

Honestly, I don't think this is a situation limited to Superman fans. All superheroes have fans that are absolutely convinced that it is their responsibility to tear down every other hero that might serve as competition for their favorite. I've been on the boards long enough to see fans spewing venom at each other in every forum. Back in 2004-2005, was there not flame wars going on between Batman fans and Fantastic Four fans?

Everybody wants their hero (or group of heroes) to be the box office king. Right now, there is only one. :spidey: Superman fans who have a problem with that need to get over themselves.

I have no problem with it, or the fact that of the modern CB SR is 5th or 6th in terms of BO.
