Regardless, Superman Returns took four months to merely crack 200 million. Given the money spent and the character involved, it should have reached that plateau a lot sooner. It had a Wednesday opening and still couldn't do better than most blockbusters with three-day oepenings. Like I've said before, moviegoers have had all kinds of variations of Superman on television, that a new theatrical film isn't all that special. Four seasons of Superboy, four seasons of Lois & Clark, one season of that CBS animated series, the Timm/Dini-verse Superman animated series, Justice League, and Smallville in its sixth season. Overexposure killed the character's relevance in the medium of film. We were, and are continuing to get the milk for free. Why would we want to buy the cow?
