Survivor: David vs. Goliath

That was a great episode. I'm also sad to see John go. I really liked him.

I feel a huge blindside (probably not in the next episode) for Dan. His editing is setting this up. He's so cocky.

Alec and Angelina are the two most intringuing players for me and the ones who can potentially turn the game around. I'm enjoying them a lot.

I'm rooting for Nick to win. It's kind of impressive how he can easily form bonds with people (Christian, Dave, Carl, Mike, Alec).

I did not see that twist coming. The Davids played that really well and really managed to set themselves up to even out the numbers.

Sad that they chose John but I guess it was a sensible choice.

I'm blown away by John's elimination. Not only did I not pick up on any clues during the episode that he might be leaving (I thought it would be Mike) but he was my winner pick! Now who will it be? Maybe Christian.

John had a pretty good edit in the tribal fase. Now Christian seems to be too over the top. I think he might be a Domenick of the season: a big character, but won't win.

My bet is on Nick who's not only playing a pretty good game, but also has a very solid and complex edit.

Well I think we all knew she would be his down fall, at least he played the idol and didn't get too cocky.

No one came off really likable in this episode for me. I found the David's annoying and cocky due to having all those advantages. The Goliaths don't know how to play and they are easy to read.

Of course the preview has Gabby being emotional.

I´m not sure that the Davids played this optimally. In their shoes I would have voted out someone other than Dan, with the hope that he would play his idol incorrectly. That way they would still have the nullifier going into a possible 5/5 tribal council next time. Though I guess there is something to be said for playing things safe...

Dan played things correctly in this episode, using the idol for himself was the right move as there was no way he could have known that there was a completely new twist in the game. His downfall did come earlier in the season when he told Kara about his idol. I think if he'd played smart and told no one then the nullifier might not have been played against him.

The new twist was nice to see being played. The Davids, though I'm not rooting and in every season, you can predict which ones are gonna go far or who are the producer's favorites like Christian, the guy from the Amazing Race, the guy that can steal a vote. The rest still feel like supporting players so I am not exactly enjoying the season despite being a huge improvement from the last two seasons.

I'm glad that at least the advantages are gone.

I'm impressed by how coordinated the Davids have been up to this point, but watching them disintegrate is going to be fun.

Christian still got the idol and God knows, if the producers planted another Idol or advantage for someone to find.

I don't get the hate for advantages. Imagine how boring this last tribal council would have been if there had been nothing to shake things up, it would have been a straight and obvious vote along tribal lines which is something that I don't miss from earlier seasons of Survivor.

I feel like advantages are important for Survivor now. It helps to change the dynamic of power. If it wasn't for that, we would've seen pagonging after pagonging.

The one thing I'm against tho is having too much advantage. What happened to Cirie in Game Changers was the worst.

They need to find a balance when it comes to advantages and try to shake things up as much as possible before the merge to avoid this conservative approach of "keeping the numbers".

That Nullifier is absolutely lethal. With it, you can take out anyone in the game, no matter how many idols they have. There is absolutely no way to save yourself from it. You want someone gone, aim the Nullifer and load up the votes. No more need to split votes.

Advantages are important these days because the show is showing its age and they need to come up with gimmicks to keep the public interested. They aren't even going to different countries anymore, and they are pretty much running out of new twists that doesn't evolve about using a hidden immunity idol/pulling out something at tribal. I wouldn't be surprised if there would be an advantage to read the votes before Jeff reads the votes.

Also, the show is so gameplay drive now. The tribe complaining about Natalie's behavior is Survivor 101 which we rarely see in these last several seasons. These days, its about strategies strategies strategies. We don't really know the contestants the way it was in the first dozen of seasons in which there were a few underedited contestants.

They did that hide the idol on another island on Australian's Survivor this year.

I guess they did the double episode because it seemed clear who was going home each time. Alec was the threat, though his trash talking during the challenge was fun to me. Carl was being too bossy so he was gone next.

Show really makes it seem like Crying Gabby, Christian, and maybe the other Mason-Dixon guy will make it. The two guys have idols and Gabby will be brought to the finals.
Or Gabby tries to bring Allison when it gets close to the end and cries while blindsiding Christian.

Either way no one was really likable again for me.
Angelina seems fake and just politics for jury votes every time.
Davey does nothing but find advantages besides that nothing.
Allison is boring.
Mike is whatever he seems to go back and forth a lot.
Cara is just riding along, she does not seem close to anyone. Just a vote to use.
Christian is Christian I am sure he is their new Cochran/"Lovable loser character" The constant science talk and analogies can seem like an act but he is probably really like that.

Eh. Alec's boot was predictable though I wanted him to stay because he's such an eye candy. I didn't like Carl so I liked that he got voted out next though not exactly a rewarding moment. This season has its momesnt, but the contestants aren't interesting. Christian isn't funny. I don't care about the four women left, none of them are entertaining. I'm indifferent with Nick. Davie is just there. The guy from the Amazing Race is boring. So basically, the boot list and the twists are only things that makes the season somewhat interesting.

and they had a double episode because the show only has 13 weeks of airtime and a lot of broadcast networks give their primetime shows a break during the last two weeks of December. Had the season started a week earlier in September, it would have been a 14 episode season just like most of the previous seasons.

Sad to see Alec go, but not surprised. Carl definitely got what he deserved, he was just way to cocky and sure of himself.

Angelina continues to play one of the most transparent and bad jury pandering game I've ever seen. Its incredible that she can't see how she's coming across with her lame speeches.

I don't like the idols and advantages because they make Survivor seem like calvinball at times, with constantly shifting rules. Not to mention the endless idol-finding scenes ans vote-splitting strategy sessions, the details of which I can usually neither follow nor care to. Some of them have come dangerously close to production rigging the game for its favorite players, as well.

Anyway, two great episodes, especially the epic fall of Carl. I would've preferred seeing Alison leave since she's the most boring person left, but I can't complain too much since the game is being blown wide open. Anyone else shocked to see [BLACKOUT]Gabby turning on Christian next week? I really thought they were a pair that would be in it for the long haul. Christian bugs me but I'm already strangely feeling bad for him.[/BLACKOUT]

ETA: Holy crap, how do we cover up spoilers in the new format?

I'm also sad to see Alec gone, but I'm sure he's a lock to return eventually.

Hope season 40 is another Second Chance with fan voting.

I don't like it that players automatically know they go back into play after one is used. I wouldn't mind it if they were the very next day. Don't make it so obvious just spread out the time span.

Gabby got what she deserved. This move made no sense for her and the way she went about doing it was incredibly poorly thought out and executed.

I'm happy Christian is out. I honestly didn't like him. He annoyed me.

I still think Nick is winning this season, but Davie has an interesting edit. I'd be very happy with any of those two winning.
