'Sword of Truth' aka Legend of the Seeker

I didn't really like the choice of actor for the seeker. He seems too old.
Or it could be me wanting a younger hero.

I only read the first book, which I had many, many problems with, so it didn't bother me that the show strayed. I thought all the actors were great, and wasn't happy to see the show get cancelled.

Sorry to bump this thread after 3 years, but I was bored and looking for something "Game of Thrones"-esque to tide me over until the next episode of that series airs on Sunday, and ended up deciding to give this show, which I'd watched several episodes of back when it was originally on the air, a second chance, and enjoyed the 2-part premiere (Prophecy and Destiny) as much this second time around as I did the first time I watched it when it premiered 8 years ago.

It really is a well-crafted and well-scripted show, especially if you don't care about 'source material accuracy' (which I don't), and the main cast has great chemistry, especially Craig Horner and Bridget Regan, who really make you feel the building bond between Richard and Kahlan without having to verbally express themselves. Bruce Spence as Zedd is also a hoot, especially when we don't yet know he's a Wizard and he's just a kooky old man talking to his chickens, and provides some nice moments of levity in what is otherwise a fairly violent affair, especially in the first two episodes.

I intend to keep posting in this thread as I watch through the rest of the show, so hopefully others will chime in with new discussion as well.

It's a shame this show ended so early. Had this been on HBO/Star/Showtime or Cinemax it would probably still be airing.

I finished the third episode (Bounty) a bit earlier today and, while it's not quite as good as Prophecy and Destiny plot-wise and is fairly formulaic, there's still quite a bit to like about it, especially in terms of telling us a bit about Kahlan and how she's seen the world in the past relative to the Prophecy of the Seeker. It might seem a bit harsh for her to only think about "helping those who are deserving", but it makes for some nice growth when she admits that Richard was right to want to help Lilly even after what she'd tried to do to the both of them, and helps further flesh out the growing bond between them.

We also get the introduction of Ted Raimi as the Cartogromancer Sebastian, and it's fun getting to see him play off of Bruce Spence and simultaneously find out more about what Zedd can do as a Wizard beyond just throwing fire and imparting knowledge and wisdom.

I got unreasonably excited when I saw this bumped thread! If only Seeker was returning from the grave.

I do miss having a decent "fun", medieval-ish, fantasy TV series on TV. I guess there is the Shannara Chronicles, although it's not yet available on any of the streaming services to which I subscribe.

I might start a re-watch via Hulu (as long as it's available to play on the iPad and not limited to PCs / laptops like some of the SyFy series).

Speaking of The Shannara Chronicles, I'm taking a temporary break from LotS to get caught up on that series (mainly because I want to be able to listen to the AfterBuzz TV after-show for it), but will return to watching "Brennidon" and the rest of LotS once I'm finished with my TSC watch-through.
