SyFy The Phantom debuts tonight

well its SyFy...I wasnt expecting a lot from the guys who green lighted Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus. Its like Battlestar Galactica was the last legitimate thing they tried and threw a bunch of giant monster movies at us. That cowl is the worst design too....I'd like to see what the other designs were like

No thanks, going watch American Pickers and Pawn Stars

The suit is a new amalgam of several bulletproof vest metals and science fiction that gives him extra strength. The helmet/faceplate thing looks ridiculous....and the thing that ticked me off about it (other than being nothing like the traditional suit) is that because it's bulletproof, he walks calmly without trying to dodge right into automatic gun fire. Now remember this....the lower half of his face is absolutely exposed like Batman's is....but he doesn't bow his head so that bullets would bounce off of his bulletproof helmet or attempt to protect his face in any way whatsoever....he just walks slowly toward guys shooting machineguns at him with his head held high (someone needs to tell him that jaws can and will be blown off).

I know many people say that the traditional Phantom suit isn't great on film...I say look at Zane's movie, the suit was fantastic. They could have updated it some to modern day times...but they just invented some hokey looking Batman Begins suit without the cape.

I liked the suit from the Zane movie. I've seen better, but it wasn't a travesty like the suit from this movie. I only saw some of him in his costume, and the horribleness of that costume is so bad that I couldn't stand to watch it much more than 5 minutes. I don't see how they could make fun of the classic suit and come up with something so terrible looking at the same time.

I think the argument against the Batsuit can be defended by how Batman operates. He's still jumping around, and lurking in the shadows and relying on stealth.

It sounds like, from what I've read here, that this Phantom doesn't do that...but simply walks towards you like Robocop.

It just sounds like the creative team behind the story got negated by the costume designers. I mean, as if the story and the setup for the "hero" part was bent around to accommodate the costume and it's functions rather than the other way around. Having the costume and it's function be decided based on the needs of the story.

If it's to kick off a new series...then all I can hope for is that they get they're heads out of the sand and fix the costume. It's really amazing how far off they went with the suit.

eh. It could have been an interesting take on the mythos, but was just executed so poorly unfortunately.

The lead as Kit just didn't do it for me. His small stature made the already terrible suit even more ridiculous. Not intimidating at all and definitely didn't scream superhero.

The classic suit they designed was really cool, but as others have said why introduce it only to make fun. Just seems like pissing on the past that was unnecessary and disrespectful. I would be far more interested in seeing flashbacks to the other Phantoms wearing that suit than watching this new guy honestly.

Defnitely will stick with the 1996 Billy Zane effort. People give it a hard time and yes it can be cheesy, but it at least has a great lead who looks heroic and is a fun adventure (aside from the ridiculous tag line "Slam evil").

It's just too bad, I think the Phantom has all of the elements for a great adventure series on tv or film.
