Tarzan

I dunno, just doesn't seem to be a movie that screams like it needs to be IMAX experience. Star Wars and Civil War were at least partially shot with IMAX cameras. Dark Knight movies and Interstellar and all that were partially shot with IMAX cameras. IMAX was the ideal format.

In the summer, typically the new big film of that week IS released in IMAX.

For me it's the jungle landscape immersion.

As relevant as films shot for IMAX? No. But I'd say more relevant than a lot of films being thrown into IMAX during the summer on a weekly basis.

But was this film even shot in 3D?

Are most films even shot in 3D? Are most films that come out and hit IMAX on a weekly basis even shot in 3D? No. As said it is as if not more relevant than most films hitting IMAX on a weekly basis and that's not really an exaggeration at all - these days, at least in NYC there's a new film in IMAX every single week.

I'm seeing it in IMAX for the same reason I saw the non shot in 3D or with IMAX cameras Jungle Book.

I keep forgetting this movie is coming back. But every time I see the TV spots, I am thinking "damn, this could be the dark horse of the summer." And I'm a huge Alexander Skarsgard fan, too.

The promotion needs to ramp up a bit. I know a lot of people that have no idea that a Tarzan movie is coming out in a few weeks.

Yep I saw that it was tracking poorly, which wasn't a shock. I'm still probably going to see it though. I still don't get why any studio would spend more than 75 million on a Tarzan movie but it's not my money so whatever.

I wonder how much of this movie takes place in the jungle and how much in the civilized world. Because I'm much more interested in the former.

Tarzan finally speaks. Yeah, it's going to bomb, but I do hope it is enjoyable.

This is the lousiest blockbuster summer I can remember in years. The box office needs some help desperately. Would probably help if better movies were made.

The problem with the marketing is that in classic WB fashion, they're focusing less on the characters and more on the scope and how eventful it looks.

It took how many spots for us to finally hear him talk?

I have Moviepass and have pretty much seen everything that's come out since Captain America, and that has been the only movie where seats have been sold out on a constant basis. Nothing else has had that kind of fervor.

It blows my mind how out of touch some studio executives must be. $180 million on a Tarzan movie is objectively absurd.

I'm just an average joe, not particularly knowledgeable about the film industry, but I'm starting to think I could work at WB given their recent decisions. They could just ask me if what they're doing is dumb and I'd go "yup, cancel it" and then jump into a pile of cocaine and all the money I've saved them.

I was certainly onto something here...

This really is an awful summer for movies. Part of me has almost been won over by some of the recent trailers for Tarzan, it does look like it could be decent, but that budget is indefensible.

YEah I said in another thread this summer season is pretty weak to me. I usually have a list of 15-20 movies I wanna see any given summer. This year I barely had 10. And so far the only movie that didn't disappoint me somewhat is The Nice Guys...which of course underperformed.

As for Tarzan: I mean there's potential in the franchise I think. I know a lot of people kept saying "who was asking for a Tarzan movie" but I think that's kinda a silly point. However, I don't see why they spent $180 mill. That's a lot of money.

And the trailers are so mediocre. There are some cool shots (for some reason it's really funny to me everytime the gorillas are onscreen because all I can think is that the new Apes have done it better) and decent looking set pieces. But like Terry said, they aren't focusing on the characters so I'm not that interested. I havent seen the new spots but I havent even heard Tarzan speak, which would be excusable if this was an origin with Tarzan's first contact with humans, but from what I understand he's like a "proper guy" by the time this story opensThey're barely even hinting at the plot either other than Waltz is bad (surprise) and Tarzan has to return to the jungle. I mean I guess it's better than showing the whole movie, but still...give me SOMETHING

i know this is a long post but ONE MORE THING...does anyone else feel that Skarsgard and Jason Momoa shouldve switched roles. Skarsgard shoudlve been Aquaman and Momoa should be Tarzan. I know that Tarzan is removed from the jungle in this but he really doesn't have that used to be feral, tough, weary look to him in this.

I don't plan on seeing this in theaters unless the WOM is really strong.

Yeah, they're also making no effort to make it look like a different Tarzan movie. The idea of Tarzan coming back to the jungle after becoming civilized is a great idea and they're just marketing it as just a plain Tarzan movie.

Not that desperate... so no.
