I think that 'hardly awful' is selling things a little short.
If nothing else these sides tell us a bit more about how big TDK is going to be. From the boats, mall, and National Guard info it's safe to say that there's going to be several large-scale action sequences. (The bank robbery might fit into this category, too).
Also, I love the fact that we're seeing so many players involved in the plot: Batman, Gordon, Joker, Dent, Maroni, Maroni's boss/underling, all these other GCPD members, possibly Scarecrow(?), amateur vigilantes, henchmen...there's lot of stuff going on here.
While I do agree with you that some of the dialogue sounds a little cheesy, I think that dwelling on that is being overly negative. These sides are very encouraging, and I think anybody who is calling them awful is either expecting too much or is just being an ass.
They've had to bring in National Guard, for god's sake! If that's not the Joker setting himself up as the best damn villian ever, I don't know what is.
Yeah, but how long do you think this is gonna take place after Begins? Gordon's son in Begins was a baby, and this kid seems to be able to talk rather well. I doubt they're setting this movie that many years later.
A treatment is a detailed story with sometimes hints of dialogue. This are pages from a complete script.Yea, the Gannon scene dialogue is pretty on the nose too. Is there a chance this stuff is taken from Goyer's 30 page treatment? Page numbers don't go above 22 apart from one. Just feels like it has his fingerprints on it in places.
The dialogue is fine. The sides sound great, and it's pretty clear, as I've said before, this is going to be a much bigger, darker film than Begins. It's a war of Freaks vs. Mob vs. GPD vs. Batman vs. Vigilantes, which will make a very interesting film.
More than likely, this is from the first completed draft. Dialogue will probably be altered slightly here and there, but trust me, in context, it will be fine. It isn't like we're getting beaten down with gems like "Nice coat." or "Can you drive stick?"

Out of all the lines...THAT'S what you had a problem with?I think it's gonna be pretty dark as well, and not to mention, ace actors like Ledger and Bale can make even some of the most deplorable diologue work. I for one have absolutley no problem with some of the one liners in Begins. They ONLY ones I have any problem with at all is "You in hell itchy man.....and I amd da debil"......"You're not the devil, you're practice". Not exactly my thoughts on how to open a movie after B&R, but thats just me.
"I've gotta get me one of those" was in my head before I even saw the movie.

If a radio call-in show is in TDK, does this mean we're also going to see Joker's Five Way Revenge in play? It sounds like the Joker is ticked off at the corrupt police force (for torturing him and creating him?) and government officials and wants to seek revenge by killing them one by one. Randolph = Commisioner Loeb, who the Joker probably already offed. I have a feeling Mike Engel's next caller is going to be the Joker, who is going to announce his next victims, starting with the Mayor.
Shizzle, the WB is on to us. The sides have been removed as has Rory's first kiss from the chicago list.
It's only a matter of time before they contact the hype and tell them to pull it.
