The Dark Knight TDK Casting Sides

I could be wrong but I think they were casting for both Grumpy and Chuckles...so Chuckles can't be the Joker.

^There is no validity to this.

Picture the scene as though we have yet to see the Joker, and we're picturing this hooded crook as some common criminal...It seems obvious that he'd be depicted with another nickname in the sides so as to differentiate.

Read my earlier post; the fact that he gets this other thug going ("Who does that guy think he is?"), and then pops him one ("Less guys, larger shares") is an act reserved only for someone so cold & calculated...you may not see him remove the mask until he's actually in the bank, thus initially percieving him to be nothing more than one of the gang (hence the second nickname)...

Just because these names are in the sides, doesn't mean anything. Someone could have auditioned for whatever role, and Nolan & co. could easily have something else lined up for them...I'd much sooner read the actual sides to get an idea of how the script will be instead of thinking that every character who's lines we read is a side beyond a shadow of a doubt, or that each character depicted in the sides as crazy, smiling, etc. is the Joker...does that mean because the one thug uses the line, "It's an inside joke" that he's the joker too? Come on!

Ít looks like TDK will have a more complex script. There is so much going on.

I know. The script so far reads more like a serious crime drama than a blockbuster.

But let´s not look into this stuff too closely. Let´s remember these are pieces to audition actors, a lot of this stuff may change or not even be in the final movie.

Rory gets Laid (great name by the way), here's a list of all the sides that they're auditioning for. They only list the names of the character in each script excerpt that haven't been casted yet. So characters like The Chief, Kennedy (Bruce?), Prosecuter (Dent/Rachel), Gannon, Randolph, The Prisoner (Joker), Avenger (Batman), Wuertz (Flass/Bullock?), Faulkner (Bruce/Fox?), Mike Engel, Mask Wearing Thug (Joker), and Maroni are not listed below.

Roles Bank Manager
$ 1.00 Bartender
$ 1.00 Berg
$ 2.00 Bodyguard/Junkie
$ 1.00 Brian
$ 1.00 Cop (Terrorized)
$ 1.00 Cop/Thug

$ 1.00 Detective/Fat Thug

Reading over the list, I realized I forgot that Rossi was included as one of the sides. So, Rossi isn't the Joker? I always thought the scene between Rossi and the prosecutor was the famous Dent scarring courtroom scene.

Yeah, Rossi isn't the Joker. But it still might be the scarring scene. It seems like it is. In fact, I'd stake money on it. I think they just might have (wisely) decided to have Dent's scarring come from Salvatore Maroni (not directly, but through one of Maroni's thugs) after all.

I viewed Rossi as more of one of Maroni's guys.....talking about Maroni being the fall guy but he's actually the leader of the mob. I saw Rossi as Maroni's fall guy, the guy that was told he would be "made" if he took the hit for Maroni so he tells the prosecuter that he's the head. Kinda of like in TLH when all the Irish guys confess to the same crime when Dent poses as one of them.

Not so much he'll be made, as his family won't be killed if he takes the fall.

Most definatly Rossi scarring Dent is sooooooooo much better than Joker doing it. Makes more sense, is realistic (as opposed to having Maroni do it himself).

Also, did anyone notice that they change Dent's name again in the side. From Randolph ro Gannon to Prosecutor. Anyone think by any chance that Prosecutor = Rachel Dawes? The words written on the pages sound an awful lot like how she conducted herself in Begins. Straightforward, to the point, etc etc.

PS: JL Unlimitied ---- see what I mean about n00bes?

I'm disappointed in you, Anjow. Trying to bring up someone's postcount as something against them? Thats rather lame and juvenile. And wasn't it you over on BOF who was talking about how immature people are here? Don't lower yourself to that level, man.

lol, I'm not trying to be immature man. But you cannot honestly say that n00bes don't have a history of saying stupid things. Usually as post counts get higher, regardless of "lurking time" they wise up, catch on to more things, don't repeat ideas that have already been brought up and most.....not all.....but most stop smoking whatever it is they are when they come in and stop randoming off crackpot ideas.

itsthebat yeah that's the other direction I can see it going too.

Now there's an intelligent response.

How about we stick to the topic at hand, instead of resorting to childish insults? The only reason anyone says s**t like this is out of insecurity for whatever reason...

If you don't agree with me (which for me, would be difficult to understand, seeing as though I provided some rather concrete reasoning), prove me wrong using valid points...and if you aren't able to read script excerpts so as to picture them as actual scenes in a movie, maybe you should post in a forum that is related to whatever it is you do.

Don' think so. The prosecutor uses more threatening language, the stuff about being killed now he's been pinched. The different names are just to throw people off, I'm sure.

I think Chuckles and Grumpy are just henchmen. They refer to someone not present who will take his share of the proceeds, and refer to him as not human. Sounds like the Harlequin of Hate to me.
The Prisoner is Joker, IMO. Gentle Voice, I think may be Two-Face, as I've outlined in another thread.

idk,

"Maybe the work offered by organized crime has an attraction to the insane"
"Or the corrupt"

While Katie isn't the biggest favor amongst fans, the diologue for her character still had a lot of potential to be threatening along those lines.

I still thinks theres a chance it's her especially after.....

Someone said Dent gets scarred protecting her from getting acid thrown in her face. And as we saw in Begins....she has a talent for pissing off people in the underworld and getting attacked for it....not once, not twice, but three times in Begins.

Hey, JL. Thanks for the heads up, but I do understand how the sides work. I'm just saying that if you look at the scene in the context I suggested, it sure makes an awful lot of sense.

Also, if the cop is interrogating the thug about where his boss is ("the joke's on you..."), that would indicate to me that Mr. J was still at large. Now, I know this isn't even close to a treatment, let alone a script, there would have to be a significant excerpt missing for the prisoner to be Mr. J, which is why I was thinking Dr. Crane ("I know the difference between punks who need a lesson in manners...and the freaks like you who would just enjoy it.")...

Unless Mr. J gets captured on purpose (ala Jigsaw) to relish in full delight of the grander scheme at hand...still possible, but...

What does everybody else think?

Anjow, you really need to get off your high horse, man. Regardless of how many posts someone has, people can still make valid points. You may have not intended to come off as immature but that's how it sounded calling someone a noob, when it was unwarranted. We're all essentially Batman fans on here and we're all excited for TDK. On that level, we're all equal. So let's put the noob talk aside and get back on topic.

Regwec, great call on "No Man's Land". I had the same thought process too. Look at this excerpt off of wikipedia (love that site):

Gotham City had suffered the results of a magnitude 7.6 earthquake in the earlier Cataclysm storyline. Previous disasters, such as two separate plague outbreaks, caused many to want to write off Gotham completely. The U.S. Government gave a timeline. At the end, all bridges were destroyed and all known paths out of the island city were covered by the National Guard.

It sounds like Nolan IS borrowing ideas on No Man's Land. The National Guard could have been brought in NOT to help the police force but to quarantine Gotham from the criminals still on the loose and the citizens still feeling the effects of the fear gas (plague outbreak?).

Either 'Rossi' is moving in slow-mo, or Dent must have speeding powers, because he'd have to move pretty fast to get to Rachel in time

Hmmm. I hadn't heard that one, but it does leave the door open to the possibility that Dawes is "The Prosecutor." However, I'm still trying to figure out why Gannon and Randolph are both used if they're both referring to Dent. Is it possible that his "fake" name is Randolph Gannon or something like that?

Oh, give me a f**king break.

Just because I'm a new poster does not mean I'm new to the board, to Nolan's Bat-universe, or uninformed of the idea of the sides...nor does it mean I'm incapable of providing an educated opinion.

Get over yourself, Anjow.

But at the end of BEGINS, it sounds like the Narrows was pretty well quarantined and dealt with. It doesn't sound like the Narrows produced city-wide chaos in need of the National Guard.

And the fact that the National Guard reference comes at a point that seems to be later in THE DARK KNIGHT rather than earlier still indicates to me that the National Guard don't show up until things really start going downhill in THE DARK KNIGHT.
