The Dark Knight TDK Director's Cut?

During the editing process, several cuts are produced before the film is released. I don't know every cut, but I know there's a rough cut, and I know that the penultimate cut is the director's cut. This is usually followed by a screening to studio executives, who offer criticism, which is then taken into account when the final cut is made. Occassionally, the director later releases the director's cut, which usually contains extra footage. An extended cut is quite different. In this case, some deleted scenes that were cut out for the sake of time are put back in.

However, who knows how each individual director works? Some films have more cuts than others. I'm certain that a director like Nolan always releases the exact cut he wanted. In any case, I highly doubt he'd make an extended cut of any of his films.

if there is one... i would like to see it... but its doubtful.... What i would like to see is some Joker alt. takes
there is one, they did 25 takes per scene im almost betting it wont be released like Donners work did for 20 years, but i know there is missing scenes for sure, i know there is a alternate ending involving dent and his where abouts

Nolan's contracts dictate final cut for his films. I think a "deleted scenes" section should be up there (and we'll know on Tuesday if anything is cut because that's when we can buy the Screenplay).

But what I REALLY want from Nolan, Bale, Eckhart and Oldman is a commentary.

the leaked pic of the knife in the fake batman n the pin in the movie makes me suspect an r version does exist

Wasn't there one for "Memento"?
Nope. I have the limited edition 2 discs, and no extra scenes whatsoever.

If Joker scenes were taken out, it probably had something to do with Ledger's death, though Nolan has said that he pretty much kept everything the same. Point being, I don't think he'd release extras or anything.

But I'd really like some.
If the bodybag scene made it, what couldn't have? :oldrazz:

I can think of other movies I would rather get a director's cut of.*

TDK is a brilliant movie, extended version perhaps, but I don't think the studio would have asked him to make changes that would dramatically change the film. Most of the time the theatrical movie is the director's cut (see LOTR, Peter Jackson was perfectly fine with the theatrical movies and considers them the director's cut).

*VVV wink wink VVV

The Theatrical version could have been rated R if they added blood. I'm not one who thinks all movies should be rated R or anything, but having no blood during the bank scene was annoying. The guy gets lit up by Joker and he just grabs his shoulder.:whatever:

If there isn't an extended cut I would like to see some directors commentary through the whole movie and also with some deleted scenes. I doubt there are many but I'd like to see why Nolan chose one cut of the Joker over another. The whole "Here's my card" and the picture of Joker sitting in the back of the car. I'd like to see as much of Heath's improvisation as possible. Also the whole scene that Bale said him and Oldman were throwing the money back and forth. I want to see those types of bloopers.

Amen to the blooper reel idea. I remember waiting for that to happen in the scene so I could be like "ahhh, the one take where he didn't drop it."

A "Directors Cut" is the director's preferred version of a film. Nolan was not put under any restraints when cutting TDK, anything that was cut was cut because Nolan did not think it was working. I am positive the theatrical version is the version he wanted to release. A director usually releases a D. Cut on dvd because the studio or MPAA forced changes he didn't agree with.

Nolan has said on numerous occasions that he doesn't like to over-shoot his films. Every frame of TDK is meant to be there.

An "Extended Cut" is when the studio takes all the deleted scenes, good or bad, and shoves them in in order to sell more dvds.

Don't expect either anytime soon.

Exactly.

I guess Nolan has said in the past that his theatrical cuts pretty much ARE the "director's cut".

Still, I can see a few extended scenes here or there.

Don't think Nolan does extended cuts.......

Ya I really dont see Nolan doing anything like this, he usually cuts the film exactly how he wants it and thats it, theres no deleted scenes or anything like that.

How long is the dark knight? Without the credits?

Wishful thinking...but I would rather see it released on blu-ray...I just finished watching Batman begins on blu-ray/hdtv and it definately blows every thing out of the water.

I think the theater version is the director's cut. Nolan made it clear that he wanted the film unaltered as it relates to Heath's death. He said that the it was done exactly the way he intended it to be. That being said, I would love to see an extended version. Hopefully we'll get a packed DVD upon its release!

I would love a different cut for the DVD if only to smooth over some clipped editing and weird scene transitions. I imagine it could happen, despite no precedent for it from Nolan.

There was a scene of Maroni leaving the restaurant in handcuffs which was on youtube that was not in the final film.

I wish this would of been the take in the film

This is the "Hit Meh!" I wanted the other didnt really feel like in place. and it didnt sounds like Ledger saying Hit Meh!

Where is this? Never seen it...I'm also looking for that youtube vid that shows Heath doing moves outside a car that a Chicago FOX station shot last summer. It appears that might have been a scene that could have taken place as Joker's escape from the party...anyone know of this clip I'm talking about?

People thinking they are going to re-release a rated R edition in theatres is laughable. We will get deleted scenes and then they will double dip later on down the road.

Getting a directors cut R rated version on DVD would be sweet indeed!

No harm in releasing one IMO....WB's and Nolan would make more $$$ thats for sure.

I would love to see this scene added in, no matter how long or short it would have been...

Its on youtube somewhere. It was a bystander who shot the footage of Maroni being lead out of the restaurant in cuffs. It showed Nolan directing and he looked right at the bystander. People here were doing manips of that showing flames coming off of Nolan like he was pissed.

see...I'm hoping that any extended/deleted scenes with any unseen footage of Heath's Joker might be being saved in order to be worked in to the third movie...ie: the long rumored clip of Joker in Arkham with Harley...I'd love to see that re-edited to somehow have even a few shots of Heath/Joker in the movie...then they wouldn't have to recast!

With as much footage as I imagine they had, It very well might be possible...

I'd rather Nolan did that than wasting any fresh Joker footage with extended scenes that go along with TDK DVD...
