The Dark Knight TDK Director's Cut?

I would have liked to have seen just one scene where Joker properly cuts someones mouth with his knife without it cutting to another shot while he does it, but of course that would have bumped the age rating up

When he the mob boss dies after his "Why so serious" monolgoue, I do think they cut out him doing it. That is the one part of the movie that seemed edited to me, but I didn't need to really see him do it. The henchman's reaction to whatever he did was fine for me.

All this talk of directors cut and extended version is really stupid, if you know what Nolan is like as a director, he'll tell you, the films he makes are exactly how he wants them to be, he dosent do deleted scenes, or extended cuts. The only footage that will be shown of this film is the one running in theaters.

OH and for gods sake when will people get it, BATMAN will never be rated R, its a kid's franchise, get over yourselves.

Agreed, WB would never put out an R-rated Batman movie. Hard PG-13 like TDK is the best we'll get in that regard.

thats what i tried to tell them!!!!

and yeah batman is never R
spiderman 3 was gonna be because of venom but they had to make it pg13 so they wouldn't loose audience, and if it stayed R venom would have been good

back to batman

People will never understand, that making batman an R rated movie won't make the films any better, or any more respected. Batman is a universally loved icon, by all ages and nationalities, making an R rated batman would only make it for a niche audience and batman would lose plenty of fans.

Im glad alot of the violence in TDK was implied rather than shown. Showing excessive violence in film in order to illict a response, cheapens the product, its alot more skillfull evoking the same reactions from the audience without using violence. It means the filmaker has to build up tension and suspense, and have great writing that leaves a bit to the viewers imagination.

Frank Miller could learn a little from Chris nolan

yes i did just say that.

While I don't think Batman should be a gore fest I think some blood should be allowed when it comes to crime scenes or Batman beating the **** out of people.

I think the only reason a number of fanboys don't want it to be rated R(even a light R rating) is because it won't pull in as much money.

It's rather funny that people are saying it's a kids franchise, not just because of the level Burton and Nolan brought it to but if you look at a number of Batman comics from the last 20-30 years...it's not kids stuff.

The amount of blood in the comics blows away the argument that it's a kids franchise. Not to mention if you've seen enough PG-13 films, you know they can get away with a little.

Once again, I don't think Batman should ever be a gore fest but a little blood in the right places wouldn't hurt.

The comic books are the source, they are the basis and most important part of batman lore throughout. Yes they are quite violent and alot of the storylines in the comics today would translate into an R rated movie no doubt, but without getting too deep into it; Its no secret that comics are more "niche" now than they were in the yesteryear, superhero films are based more on the ideas or basic general knowledge of a character rather than being directly adapted from comic books. When i say franchise, i dont nessesarily mean the comics, even though they make up a huge part of the franchise.

Even though the comics are generally dark, I still think Batman is a predominantly teen/kid franchise. Most of the stuff are aimed for under 18's, it just so happens, the richness of his character happens to appeal to adults just as much (which is brilliant)

All in all Sharkboy...I still loved TDK even if they had to tone down the violence to appeal to the younger audience as well.

An extended cut would be great, but I'd be glad if at least they put any missing scenes in the dvd. Speaking of that, I don't remember seeing the scene from which this picture was taken:
darkknight-batsuit.jpg

I do remember having seen some footage of it in some spots though, where Batman jumps from car to car.

As many times as it's been posted and quoted from the director and producers. No matter how clear it's been cut that there will NOT be deleted scenes, extended footage, an extended/director's cut, people are so stubborn to accept that truth. Guys, gals, if you really, REALLY want that footage, why don't you just keep those videos you've downloaded so that you've got those missing scenes already?

I'm a huge Nolan and Batman fan. And if there are any scenes I'd like to see that I noticed were in early spots not included in the final product, I'll just save all the videos I've gotten online. Why? Because I know for certain, Nolan does NOT do deleted scenes or extended cuts. We should be just grateful to even have any of this to begin with!

If Nolan does decide to include something along those lines, it'd be nice to be surprised by that generous gesture to fans. We've waited so long for a great film like this all these years. Now that we have it, we should appreciate it and be thankful. Don't get too greedy now by expecting even more. That's where you're going to feel sorely disappointed when things don't go your way.

Why don't you guys just stop trying to insult us and wait and see if one does come out. We have the right to talk about it, whether you like it or not.

Are you referring to me? Because if so, I didn't insult anyone. I am merely pointing something out in a calm manner. I didn't resort to name calling or any cheap insults toward anyone. I just meant to say 'relax!'

BTW, where was the shot of the Tumbler driving in & out of the penthouse?

Can I just ask, nicely, how you actually KNOW this? Unless you are Mr Nolan himself?

Maybe he doesn't on his other films, but he may just...err..change his mind on this one? Maybe to give us as much of Heath's performance as possible?

Besides, is there not a special edition of Memento with 3 different endings to view on it?

I stick to what I'm going to believe because I don't want to set myself up for disappointment if alternate takes don't show up on the SE. If it does, then I'll be really happy for certain. Since it is 'uncertain' at this point, I'm not going to hold my breath.

And, regarding the Memento DVD, no. I own the special edition DVD and I've not seen any alternate endings on it. Anyhow, here you go:
Breaking News: 'DARK KNIGHT' DIRECTOR AND PRODUCER DISCUSS EXPECTED DVD FEATURES

The Blu-ray version will feature the shifted IMAX aspect ratios

By CHARLENE CHENG, News Editor
Published 7/7/2008

LOCATION: Beverly Hills, CA

THE SKINNY: We know THE DARK KNIGHT isn't even out in theaters yet (less than two weeks away!), but let's admit it: We already know that we'll be adding this one to our personal DVD collections.

iF MAGAZINE did a bit of investigating at the junket last weekend to squeeze out any details we could get from the filmmakers regarding what juicy extras we can look forward to. While director Christopher Nolan and producers Charles Roven and Emma Thomas had not met to discuss the DVD yet at the time of THE DARK KNIGHT junket, they will able to throw us a few scraps.

Nolan and Thomas both brought up the anticipated Blu-ray version and its capabilities. Nolan summed it up by saying, "The Blu-ray, in particular, will be able to actually use the shifted aspect ratios as it appears on the IMAX screen because the 16:9 aspect ratio is sufficiently different from the 2:4 that you'll actually see a shift on the Blu-ray. The resolution on the Blu-ray is clear enough that you can actually see difference in grain structure and sharpness. So I think it will be quite spectacular."

There are a couple of elements that fans will not be seeing. Thomas said that it's "unlikely" that the DVD will contain alternate takes of Heath Ledger as the Joker [during the junket, the filmmakers and fellow cast members mentioned how Ledger would occasionally riff or improvise some of his dialogue], but pointed out that they have not decided anything for sure yet.

Another popular feature that THE DARK KNIGHT DVD won't have according to Roven: deleted scenes.
"We know there won't be any deleted scenes because there never are," says Roven, noting director Nolan puts everything of importance in the actual movie. "There weren't any on BATMAN BEGINS and there weren't any on this one."

Apart from that, Nolan promised us some "very interesting extras". The man hasn't failed us thus far, so we'll be waiting in excited anticipation.

Besides, is there not a special edition of Memento with 3 different endings to view on it?
3 different commentaries that play at random (all refuting each other), not different endings.

There was a little blood in the movie. (When Batman was attacked by the dogs in the beginning, he was bleeding on his elbow. :cwink:)

there most likely wont be a directors cut even though it would be bad@$$
