The Dark Knight TDK Fighting Style News

2) Limiting Batman to one style is a HORRIBLE move. Anyone who reads Batman knows that he has trained in every/any martial art he could so that it doesn't matter what the situation is, he can react. If a good-old Americaning Boxing right hook is whats needed, thats what he'll do.

Amen.

Any martial artist knows that their is not a whole lot of difference between most martial arts.

Well, see here lies the problem.their 's not a whole lot of difference in how people fight. Most classical Martial Arts in my opinion, have caused a lot of damage, because people forget that and feel that a certain "style" holdsthe key to their successs. No style ever won any fight. The individual did, not the style. To paraphrase Bruce Lee :"there's no such thing as different styles of fighting, unless you there exists a human being with four arms or legs. Two arms to legs - and there's not much variation on what a person can really do."

I do not know Keysi, I however know Jeet Kune Do so I'll use that as my example. Bruce Lee did not invent a new way of punching or kicking or new blocks or anything like that, in fact Jeet Kune Do basically assumes the student has some previous martial arts training.

Yes and no.JKD is a system that advocates working on you're own personal attributes and using them to you're maximum.Since lee passed away, there have been few that really underrsood this concept, and most who "teach" JKD today have no understanding of what Lee was saying, let alone doing. It has become all that Lee sought to demolish in martial arts- dogma, style over individual and set patterns.

Jeet Kune Do simply 1) Turned the fit vertical 2) Made the attack and block into 1 motion into 2 very fast motions 3) took away high kicks and 4) Did away with katas and 5) Put the strong hand foward. He didn't really "invent" anything, he just found a new way to use what existed.

Again, this was Lee's own personal expression of fighting. While there are obviously certain principles that JKD emphasized(ie closest weapon, closest target), these "rules" have been the main culprit in desecrating what true JKD is.A good example is Joe Lewis. His backround was Karate , while Lee's was Wing Chun.Yet Lewis was able to apply Lee's principal to his own art.

Re:Batman's'Fighting style.

I'm not a huge fan of showing Batman doing any type of Martial arts, in the traditional sense of martial arts choreography for film.I don't need to see him do high kicks to the head like Bruce Lee.

My instructor, has a saying about the whole business of "martial arts" -
"Art belongs on a wall in a museum. If you want to talk about fighting, let's put the martial back into the equation"

To me this is how I see Batman. His moves don't need to be like a ballet dancer. He's a brawler who will hit hard, unexpectedly, and in the right spots.
And that's how Bruce Lee was.His movie martial art was definitly jazzed up for cinematic appeal. But his core principals are in those fights. That was a big part of his brilliance.Look specifically at the Bob wall fight in Way Of The Dragon for reference.

And in some cases, I don't even need to see what he does. It's enough to show him appearing and grabbing someone a drawing him into his cape ala Dracula.
