They get fired because there is an inherent uneven power balance in the relationship - even if it is not a student of that particular professor. In the same way there is an inherent uneven power balance between an adult and a child/teen.

What if the teen is a player and the adult is a desperate housewife? Then it could be argued the teen is taking advantage of the adult.

And relationships are never perfectly balanced anyway. One partner is always dominant no matter how slight.
