The Dark Knight Teaser

Not sure if this is anywhere yet, but if it is, consider this as a second or third addition. What is your ideal Batman II teaser? Should the Joker be in it? Should it show scenes from Begins? What do you guys think?

It shouldn't give away the complete story yet, I mean I know it has to be more complex than just going after Joker with Dent and Gordon. I mean that would be a cool shot, the three of them on top of the GCPD with the Bat signal still on. Shot of Alfred talking, Fox showing a new gadget. And it should have at least a laugh from the Joker ir not a line or a quick shot of his face.

DENT
How much longer?

GORDON
As long as it takes.

DENT
Oh.

We hear something, like a soft rustle off-screen. The two men hear it as well, they turn and look. Standing in front of a large spotlight is the silhouette of the BATMAN.

BATMAN
Gentlemen.

I like that part alot, that will set up the entire movie right there, getting people excited to see detective work along the growing relationship with Bats and Gordon and the troubled yet sincere friendship of Bruce and Dent.

my theory if I made the Teaser

camera pans over gotham
you hear sierians and yelling
you hear a voice "you know this town, it's kind of dull"
a man is running away in fear in a dark alley
" I see the same thing every day"
the man is picked up by a dark figure and you hear a tossle
"what this town needs is some Entertainment"
Camera spins upward to show batman staring down from a tall building
splits into a house, all you see is a lower half of a man with a table and a deck of cards, the hand lifts up and places a gun on the table
"and Im just the man to do it"
Sinister laughter
never seeing the face
Loud sepensful music plays
You see batman gliding in the air fighting
Alfreds voice fades into the scean of Batman fighting in a big fight with fire an d bullets "you know master bruce, I sometimes worry that sometimes your double lives just may come together"
a scean of bruce as a party with loud music
quick switch to batman in his car
fads back to Bruce laughing
"alfred, everyone has a darkside, I do my best to keep it at bay"

followed by a man walking away in a purple suit whistling

I'm hoping they dont do a Bruce Wayne and Harvey Dent friendship. That was a B:TAS invention only, and one I didn't particularly like (rather, I liked it at the time, until i read The Long Halloween and realized how much better a Batman/Harvey relationship was). This movie needs to focus on the alliance of Batman, Harvey, and Gordon working to bring down the Joker.

I have a really, really different idea. And at first- it probably sounds like wtf? It's meant to. It's meant to rile the audience. What is this?:

We open to a BLACK SCREEN. Silence. Then we begin to hear it. A sharp, sadistic laugh. It sounds far away. But, as the seconds go by, the laughter becomes louder, more intense. Surrounding the audience, blaring from every speaker. Then silence. BOOM! Lighting. We are in...

EXT. GOTHAM CITY- DARK ALLEYWAY

As the lightning strikes we steal a glimpse of the figure in the darkness. Red lips. White Skin. The hero theme begins.

FLASH CUT:

EXT. GOTHAM CITY CEMETARY

We see a man in a black suit kneeling beside a gravestone. We pan over. The grave belongs to Thomas Wayne.

EXT. GOTHAM CITY- NIGHT

Crime is everywhere. We hear the sounds of reporters, think the scene of Superman hovering above the Earth.

REPORTERS (O.S.)
We are hearing reports that.... Reports are stating.... There seems to be.... An escaped killer from Arkham..... victim in a string of unsolved murders.... was found murdered tonight in...

BRUCE (V.O.)
What lies hidden, deep within a man's soul?

INT. HARVEY DENT'S OFFICE

CLOSE UP on a hand clutching onto a silver coin. Pan back to see Harvey Dent staring at it. Unable to make up his mind. Troubled.

BRUCE (V.O.)
Pain.

INT. AUTOPSY ROOM

Gordon looks towards the white sheets covering up a woman. A tear runs down his eyes.

BRUCE (V.O.)
Suffering.

INT. BATCAVE

We see the Batcave. Up and running. Realistic. Dark. Gritty. A man sits in a chair, out of sight. But, we already know who it is. As we get closer we see crime photos, autopsy reports. In his hands he holds a playing card. The Joker.

CUT TO.
BLACK

BRUCE (V.O.)

BTW, for the 'hero' theme I was thinking of "Myotis" when it gets to the high adrenaline beat of the theme.

I love the ideas guys.

Mine:

Gordon and Dent looking over a body bag in a alley...

Gordon: The third victim in a week...

Dent: Another of Maronis thugs, so what's the big deal?

Gordon: Well kid...

Gordon un-zips the body bag to reveal the dead body has a huge grin on its lifeless face.

Dent: My, God! Who would do this?? Jim got a plan?

Gordon: I got one...

As Gordon walks up to a rooftop...

Gordon: He stuck again.

In the shadows...

Batman: I know.

A brief shot of Batman followed by a quick action sequence...
...ending in a fade to black to devilish laughing...followed by a quick shot of the Joker...

Then a shot of the Batman logo, under it: The Dark Knight, Summer 2008'

My TEASER (incorporating the ideas in this thread):

Ext. Alleyway. Night.

Two men stand separated from a crowd of forensics and police. The two men are Captain JAMES GORDON and district attorney HARVEY DENT. GORDON puffs on his cigar as they walk past the police line, lifting it over their heads. They proceed up the alley.
The alley is damp, puddle ridden, with dumpsters making it smell as sour as it looks.
The two men continue up to their goal. As they walk up the alleyway, they talk.

GORDON
Fifth this month.

DENT
He's toying with us, he's good at it too.

GORDON
Another prominent enforcer of the Maroni family. We're gonna’ have a mob war on our hands.

The two men reach their goal. The music begins to swell slowly. There, in the shadows, lies a corpse. A man, 37 years old, his face is covered in shadows, but his blood spatters the asphalt. We cut to the to men’s faces-disgusted. Back on the body the camera zooms in as it slowly pans, the music continues to swell. The camera moves to what looks like a piece of paper near the body. We cut to GORDON who leans down to pick up the item. He lifts it up and the music reaches its highest level. We see what the item is in a POV close up and the music stops.

In GORDON'S hand, we see close, a playing card, a JOKER.

GORDON looks up to DENT.

GORDON
I think it's time you met my partner.

CUT TO.
Ext. GCPD Rooftop. Night.

A light illuminates the two men from the side. The two men, GORDON and DENT stand on the rooftop, waiting.

DENT
How much longer?

GORDON
As long as it takes.

DENT
Oh.

We hear something, like a soft rustle off-screen. The two men hear it as well, they turn and look. Standing in front of a large spotlight is the silhouette of the BATMAN.

awesome.

i love the "returns summer 2008" line.

works great with the title.

however, i think they shouldn't actually hear batman.

batman should show up silently off screen, and then he says "gentlemen", leading dent and gordon to turn as the camera shows batman.

Well, if they start shooting of sequel in January, they will be able to attach teaser to Spidey 3.

But I think more logical would be, if they released it with HP5. Why?

Because they will have more filmet stuff to show in teaser.

It should start out at a crime scene, and we see Gordon standing around, perhaps looking at a body or something. Liev Schreiber... i mean Harvey Dent walks up from behind. The two exchange dialogue and we basically learn they're at the scene of a murder, and it's the same guy who's responsible for a string of seemingly random murders. Gordon starts to walk away, and when Harvey asks him where he's going, Gordon replies "I'd like you to meet someone." Cut to the rooftop of Gotham Police HQ, they're both standing around, and there's a large light coming from somewhere off screen. Suddenly, you hear Batman's voice "Gentlemen". Cut to a quick flash of Batman.

It's short and sweet. I loved how the first Begins teaser tricked you into thinking it wasn't a Batman movie. I'd love it if this did the same. I mean, you'd probably be able to tell by just seeing Oldman as Gordon, but to most casual moviegoers, they wouldn't realize until that final shot of Batman that it was a trailer for the Batman movie.
I like this idea alot and maybe at the end when it says the title you hear the Joker's creepy laugh.

Cinemaman said:
Joker's creepy laugh would be great idea

Werd. Adds to the fact that it's a less 'flashy' more creepy version of the character.

Not to be picky, but why would Dent be at a crime scene? Do lawyers do that in the US?

Also, have Rachel Dawes as "the smiling victim". That would be a shocker.

I don't think this trailer should have the "What is this a trailer for?" mysteriousness. If Gordon is shown and people don't know what the trailer is for, we've got a problem. Maybe if we only heard his voice?

A shot of police officers, with bulletproof glass shields, guns, vests getting ready to go into a building.

Close on the leader, counts 3, 2, 1, kicks down the door.

They swarm into the dark room, flashlights on. Check one room, clear, check another room, clear.

One of them asks: What's that smell??

Another calls, "captain..."

They turn to him, and he's pointing his flashlight at the ground, illuminating blood. We "rove" the camera across the floor as his flashlight follows a trail of blood... until we come upon 3 or 4 dead bodies piled in a corner. We start hearing maniacal laughter... flashlight roves past the bodies to a figure just casually sitting back against the wall, horrifying smile, laughing like a maniac, with green gas seeping out of his flowers... we pull back as all the officers start dropping the floor and we just hear the maniacal laughter echoing and echoing. Cut the "Batman" logo.

Eh, I agree with everyone from BOF (for the most part) about it picking up in the "escalation" speech at the end of Begins. However, I do like the idea of not showing batman till the end and misleading the audience to think it's something else.

ONE THING IS FOR SURE - They NEED to have it attatched to Spiderman 3.

make the bat symbol just like BB.
and have the "THE DARK KNIGHT" text centered in the middle, with the text looking just like the BB logo text.
