Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan

There's someone on NeoGAF, who managed to get his hands on the game early. First impressions have not been kind. Comments about repetitiveness and corridor like game design. Then again, he has admitted that he hasn't played Korra or Transformers Devastation, and while they were low budget, I really enjoyed them. Well, only Transformers, Korra's camera ruined the entire game for me.

Don't know if I should be worried, but I wasn't exactly expecting a triple A game.

I was curious to check it out.

I'll just stick to Turtles In Time on SNES for the millionth time.

Not surprising. Platinum Games is an overrated developer yet they tend to get a pass. Their games are hit and miss and their licensed stuff tends to be mediocore at best

Can't really blame Platinum on the quality of their licensed games. It's not like Activision gives them the time and budget to actually make them as good as they possibly can.

yeah yeah, yeah, thats always the excuse. Activision doesnt own them. They keep taking the jobs to do the games knowing what they have to work with and keep pushing out subpar titles as a result. IMO, it dilutes and tarnishes their brand

And if it's not them, then it's another developer we'd rag on. Like High Moon Studios and Beenox, who can create good games, but continuously have their budget and development time sliced down to nothing.

It's the director of the Kora game.. Which was also ****. The game is apparently beatable in 3 hours too. I'll give it a rent, simply because I love the Turtles.

Yeah I'm just going to rent this by redbox

Transformers was actually very solid, if short, but playing through the game as the various Transformers extended that, and it had a very in-depth combat system. Korra wasn't great, admittedly, but I don't think I would call it mediocre. Once you unlocked all the bending abilities it could be quite fun. The camera, as Nathan said, was what killed it if anything.

Platinum "get a pass" because their games are almost always fun to some degree. Even when they're not developing classics, anyone who enjoys older style action games can get some enjoyment out of them.

Platinum is not a publisher, they are a developer who employ a work for hire method.

The developers of what many say are the two greatest action games of all time in Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2, the developers who made Rising in 10 months. Yeah, totally overrated. :cwink:

What are all these supbar titles? Because this would be #2 with Korra. Both licensed titles they did on a very short window.

Unfortunate.

The quest for a good Ninja Turtles game goes on...

I personally think they're a bit over rated as a Dev too. I'm fine if someone likes them, but personally find the vast majority of their games to be... Lacking.

Transformers was the first one I greatly enjoyed.

If you don't enjoy action beat'em ups, then I can easily understand why they're not your cup of tea. If you do enjoy those games, I cannot understand how they aren't your cup of tea.

Without getting into Platinum's overratedness or not overratedness, I don't know if you can pin this on Platinum or even Activision. This is a problem that goes back decades. And that is, yo in case you forgot budget licensed games aren't very good. Yeah, sometimes you get one that surprises you like Transformers: Devastation or that Wolverine game, but by and large they're trash and almost always have been.

The funny thing is, I love Platinum, and I don't even enjoy Transformers all that much. I mean, I had fun with it, but compared to their larger games, it feels lightweight to me. So I always wondered how much people love it because it is a licensed title that was actually enjoyable.

Platinum killed Havok's father.

Not cool. Theres stuff you just dont joke around with and thats one of them.

Yes they are bc they are not consistent. I know people that think every thing they touch will automatically be gold when they dont have that proven record. They are too hit and miss and aren't a Naughty Dog or Rockstar for example. I havent played Bayonetta 2 but I loved the original so Im confident the sequel is as great as what people claim. Its really their only truly great games IMO. Rising was awful so thats not a plus for them for me.

Anarchy Reigns, Rising, Korra and now this

I don't know Havok's personal history, but such jokes are rather common.

Yeah, pretty much. I'm more into the old school NES/SNES Brawler.

I don't think its Activision here. This is just Platinum's worst director. I know for sure he made Kora, he might have made AR too.. Now this.

Yes, they are common jokes. Obviously, I'm sorry if that hits home in some way, but 'so-so killed so-so's relatives' is a pretty common joke for someone who continuously harps on a company or individual. I think it goes without saying that I didn't literally mean Platinum killed your father.

Reigns is solid, and Rising is excellent, especially considering the very limited amount of time and budget the game had. Even Korra isn't that bad for a $15 brawler. If you like the action genre, they have been pretty consistent overall. They also made Vanquish, one of the finest action experiences of last gen, though Mikami is no longer with the company.

Korra was his first game. The AR director, I think, is no longer with the company.
