Action-Adventure Terminator: Dark Fate

Trailer didn't do it for me for a variety of reasons. I really didn't like how they reintroduced Sarah Connor - she steps out of a vehicle, fires at an oncoming Terminator and then proceeds to bring out a rocket launcher type weapon, which she fires. And she does all this whilst pretty much totally emotionless, like it's a breeze, a walk in the park.

Where's the vulnerability and fear that always made her character compelling? Even the hardened, jaded and paranoid Sarah Connor from T2 was still absolutely terrified when that lift door in the hospital opened and the T800 stepped out. This one looks like she does stuff like this in her sleep.

I know it's only one scene but my worry is that this will extend throughout the movie, and they'll focus more on 'cool' action shots like this than actual character work. If the Terminators are emotionless killing machines, then the humans have to have emotion and reactions to counter that.

Well in T2 she was unarmed and unprepared when that lift door opened, here she is now the hunter and if this is set present day then she's been doing this for nearly 3 decades since T2.

I guess that could work as a premise, but I still think it detracts from the overall feeling of fear that Terminators should imbue upon humans. I'd like to see a reaction .......... any kind of reaction - just not completely stony-faced as she fires a rocket at a killing machine from the future making it look as effortless as getting a haircut. How many machines could she have faced since T2? She's not living in a post apocalyptic landscape where they're round every corner.

Two notable parts in T1 (The T800 searching for her in the nightclub whilst she's blissfully unaware, and it's unrelentless pursuit of her and Kyle Reece in the last act) are still full of tension and fear despite the film's age - something which has been sadly lacking from recent Terminator films, and I hoped with Cameron producing this (and I assume offering some subtle or not so subtle direction also) that this atmosphere would return.

The trailer, at least for me was quite bad. It look cheap.

I don't need to watch trailer to know this will be garbage. Everything after T3(which I actually enjoyed somewhat, outside of the cheesy comedy and lighter tone), has not been needed. This is embarrassing and nothing but a grab at your nostalgia like Halloween 2018. That didn't need another story nor does this. Should've stopped after T2.

Halloween 2018 was very well received.

We’d be lucky if this turns out that well.

Well, I thought it was awful. I really don't know why it was well received.

Ah man it’s one of those ones huh? My buddy has a copy of it. Maybe I should borrow it order myself a pizza, grab some beer and enjoy the awfulness.

Be prepared to regurgitate your pizza though....

I'm fine with Sarah Connor being experienced at killing Terminators. I really enjoyed the set up in SCC, with various Terminators and Rebels going back into the past, in a sort of temporal war.

Besides, did you see the guns she had? Those are Terminator killing weapons.

being experienced has nothing to do with looking "cool" at killing terminators. This franchise by rules from T1 and T2, which this movie is follower established that Terminators are unstoppable, technologically advanced lethal killing machines which comes from future who dont sleep, eat and their only have one mission. No human should basically be able to basically be "experienced" or basically zero effort with grenade launcher kill them, damage them or entirely stop them.

They should be fearful to a point where putting cool glasses and puttin walking pose out sliding vehicle isnt stopping you from shaking even if you dealt with them in your past. And you should still be struggling and running for you life. If anything knowing about them should logically make you want to stay away from them and of their radar until you dont have any other option. Instead becoming any kind of "terminator hunter".

But everything is Jojo reference, including this movie.

So, you are saying the first 2 movies are a fluke? That, despite everything, the resistance should have failed and humanity died?

But they aren’t unstoppable. They can be killed, as shown in the first movie. It’s just hard.

The reason they took over was the sheer amount of them.

exactly this. answer to the question. You need to realize in first movie Kyle Reese despite being familar with them given he was from future, he still spent running from Terminator. And according to him basically waste of time trying to stop him, given he well knew how dangerous they are. And in 2nd movie despite John Connor having basically his "own Terminator" they still kept moving away from the threat T1000.

So even though mission was to keep first Sarah alive and then John in 2nd one there was no daring walking up with bazooka out sliding vehicle with cool sunglasses to take Terminator down. Even though that would being best solution for keeping them alive. Stakes, threat, fear. Established, established, established.

Now here you have alone single human taking on basically upgraded T2 aka multiplaying Terminator.

They are not unstoppable.
They were stopped in T1 &T2.

This is something that happens to many franchises that feature an unstoppable killing machine as a horror element. It really doesn't make sense for a Terminator to still be this unstoppable force after so many years of knowing them. It happened with Aliens, it happened with the Weeping Angels of Doctor Who. Once you beat the mosnter the first time, the mystique is gone and audiences would complain characters are dumb for following the same beats.

Except, you know, she obviously doesn't stop the Rev9.

Geez, the more I think about this trailer the blander it gets. Luna looks like a boring ass Terminator. Liquid again? An on the road chase movie again? ****ing factories. The only interesting thing looks like MaKenzie Davis.

Salvation wasn't good but I try to think back before I saw it and how excited I was because of the different direction they were taking it. A franchise with John Connor during the war of the machines was a great idea.

So who's putting money on Sarah Connor destroying the Rev9 by some sort of noble sacrificial act?

Calling it already.

I actually hope the REV9 Terminator ends up being successful. How's that for a Terminator ending?

Theoretically Sarah's actions in this should spark a Skynet response to send a machine back the mid 90s to give her Leukemia.

I agree. I’m intrigued that Linda Hamilton is back with Cameron producing but that’s about it. This looks like more of the same that we’ve been getting from this franchise for the past three movies. I’d love to be wrong.

Schwarzenegger is such a nice guy to the fans. His Reddit AMA yesterday was great. I hope this does well because I like him but I don’t have much hope.
