Terminator: Genisys - Part 6

Funny thing is Cameron never specifically said he liked it. These quotes feel more like him doing a favor for his pal Arnold.

Why does Rotten Tomatoes say 14%? 3/9 are positive, putting it at 33%.

I'm pretty fatigued on the Terminator franchise. I wasn't expecting this to be very good, but... I feel a lot of these critics wrote their reviews before they saw the movie. In part because the series has been run into the ground... but also because the critics do not want to see Arnold make a comeback. Seriously: can it be worse than "Terminator Salvation"?

Unfortunately for Arnold... if this tanks, there probably won't be a Conan sequel. If only they'd held off on making a "Predator" sequel until Arnold was out of office and then they could include him.
:whatever:
Maybe he just needs to make good films?

C'mon with the conspiracy theories...

There's certainly a way to make the mythology fresh and viable, it's just that by most accounts this film doesn't appear to be the way. Time will tell.

Hell, we're still making new iterations of Shakespeare, so it's safe to say that there is an idea out there for a Terminator film that would blow us away. I don't think anyone wanted this film to fail - why would any sane person wish that? Don't we want films to be good so that they succeed and in turn studios have a reason to keep making good films?

Maybe "comeback" isn't the right word. He's about to turn 68 and he's too far past his prime to earn that at this point in his career.

What I'm saying is this movie was written off as a punchline from day one. I'm sure it does suck, but if most of these critics hadn't seen the movie, it wouldn't surprise me.

Cause it hadn't updated. It's now at 33%.

Still maintain that 60 Minutes interview did unrepairable damage to Arnold. He could never come back after that.

Effectively killed his popularity with women (which in its prime was huge, thanks to the Ivan Reitman comedies and yes his marriage).

Exactly this. Add on his conservative politics to the climate we live in- he's a tough sell.

Ok...
1) This isn't the Ghostbusters thread and its really random to bring it up
2) I don't think I ever question anyone about saying the new Ghostbusters film looks like crap. SO I don't know why quote me on that. Im personally not excited for it.
3) It doesn't matter if it's inferior to the original in the case of Terminator. I just want it to be good. If it's as good as the original? Great. But I'd just settle for a good movie
I don't know why you would bring your Ghostbusters problems to me, who has nothing to do with the movie or it's support; in a thread that has nothing to do with Ghostbusters; and quoting me on a comment that has no relation

Chill

I am chill, all I was asking was why are you trying to dissuade people from watching a movie they're interested in??

psylockolussus is a fan of the franchise and him/her want to see it in the theater to make up his/her mind if it's good or not, or hell I don't maybe in a weird unorthodox way, maybe, just maybe they want to see it just to see and be there to be an arm chair critic and nit pick it. Sounds weird huh.

Reason I brought up Ghostbuster was because I criticized the hell out of it and was called misogynist and other things for saying what you and others have been saying about Terminator Genesys. Different strokes I guess.

Im just saying don't something you think is going to be crap and then come around and complain.

f he/she wants to see it ok IM just saying its silly to think something will be bad then complain.

if you think GB or whatever will be bad. Good for you don't support it.

Don't just support a movie just because. Or because it's based on a franchise. Or to "hate watch" because youre still supporting something. And they'll keepmaking these crppy movies if people support it.

I even said "it's your money". He can spend it how he wants. Im not trying to dissuade anyone. It's their life. I was just putting my opinion in.

which interview? the post love baby one?

I've seen Sabotage, The Last Stand, Escape Plan, The Expendables films and Maggie.

None of these movies Arnold has done since coming back to acting are that great. Most of those films are good but not exactly films that garner any accolades from anyone.

Actors go in and out of fashion. The fact you were a big draw leading man twenty years ago doesn't guarantee you still be today.

Arnie literally passed the torch to Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson in The Rundown as the next big muscle bound leading man.

I think King Conan has the potential to be his big comeback if they get it right. The fantasy genre has been extremely successful with things like Game Of Thrones and The Middle Earth films.

A bunch of diehard Terminator fans who still want to check out the movie out of morbid curiosity/loyalty from the franchise are not going to miraculously turn this movie into a hit. That is not going to save this movie from bombing if it indeed has all the makings of a bomb.

I get the philosophy behind what people are saying about rewarding mediocrity, but it's a bit over the top IMO. If the movie somehow manages to be successful, it just says that there's an appetite out there for an Arnold/Terminator comeback after all- which at this point would be a pretty big surprise to say the least. I don't think that's going to happen, but my point is just that it's the masses that decide a movie's fate.

A movie needs to be good, or at least an audience-pleaser to have legs though. I don't think anybody was ever expecting T2-level craftsmanship from this, similar to Jurassic World, but that managed to be entertaining enough to turn into the runaway hit of the summer. If TG fails to be that kind of an audience-pleasing movie than it will likely have disappointing numbers, regardless of some fanboys turning out for opening weekend. Let's get off of our soapboxes, shall we?

For the record, I'm none too optimistic about this movie, I just don't think those who are planning to see it should be guilted for that. The Hollywood machine has operated the way it has for decades and it's not going to change. It's populist entertainment, the masses decide. The masses are getting savvier though, and they have more and more options competing with movie theaters in their living rooms. The studios will eventually have to step up their game. And there will always be stinkers that come out, even when the intentions are good. Just the nature of a creative medium.

Sure it is. And there is in no way a current, relevant, box-office shattering example which might otherwise prove that point...

Right...

Yup, and I'm sure if all the cynical fanboys out there had just banded together and made a stand, they could have stopped it too! :whatever:

And, my point was a movie like Jurassic World doesn't become a huge sensation without doing something right. Bash it all you want, but a lot of people- both casual and hardcore movie fans got a lot of enjoyment out of that movie. Word-of-mouth propelled that movie to break records.

This Terminator situation is a lot different. There is less hype, the reviews have been far less kind and honestly, I think the prospect of a 68 year old leading a huge action film is just not doing it for people. Any sort of turnaround would be more of a miracle at this point.

Ahh, Jai Courtney. Turning this film into a comedy...

Does Cameron not make money off of this film? I would think he would get some sort of cut, but maybe I am wrong.

What happened in his 60 Minutes interview?
