Terminator: Genisys - Part 8

My belated thoughts on the movie.

The plot was nonsensical. This was clearly made so that they could milk every last dime out of the franchise. This was clearly not a movie made because they had a great story to tell.

Courtney's boring narration alone in the opening scenes nearly put me to sleep.

The film was very predictable.

Courtney's Reese seemed like a bit of a doofus.

All the non-Cameron Terminator movies lack that gritty vibe that his films had. Kyle Reese in Cameron's movie was a dirty malnourished looking soldier with PTSD. Reese looked like he had been fighting in a post-apocalyptic war for survival. Kyle Reese in Genisys looked like he spent most of the future in the gym and was well groomed.

They managed to make the future war look boring which is some achievement.

They did the nostalgic greatest hits of Terminator 1 & 2 scenes which only reminds you how much better those films were.

Some of the CGI was the worst I've seen in a major summer blockbuster for a while.

Arnold was solid as the Terminator although I didn't find any of his comedic stuff particularly funny.

Jason Clarke was meh. Clarke wasn't bad but nothing about him was particularly memorable either.

Emilia Clarke was ok.

I give the movie 5/10.

I thought the movie was average but if they had more of matt smiths character and a different kyle reese actor I may have liked this more. Something about matt smiths character seemed to hit more closely in line with camerons 2 films in a great way but the filmmakers were so stupid to see that while relegating him to a cameo.

Jai courtney was terrible and way too bulky as kyle reese from the word go. Dont get me started on how the recreations scenes from the 1st were down right skynet horse####

I watched this movie a few days ago and I actually really enjoyed it. Easily the best sequel.

Just watched this online last night, I would call it a disappointment but I knew from the moment I saw the cast list I probably wasn't going to like it much. Trailers and previews didn't help my anticipation much either. I'll say this, it wasn't quite as bad as I expected but it was still pretty bad.

The plot is stupid and illogical. Emilia Clarke was awful, Jai Courtney was awful, Jason Clarke gives his typical solid but yet still somehow very bland performance, Arnold as caring Father Terminator was silly, though he was solid at times at least. The T-1000 guy was good but didn't survive long. And they completely wasted J.K. Simmons, making him a buffoon rambling about killer robots even though he ends up being right he still comes off as a joke. The storyline was just stupid and the movie in general was just too light hearted for a Terminator movie.

The holographic Genisys avatar thing was stupid, the Bad Boys montage was stupid, the Father/Daughter "Pops" and "My Sarah" thing was awful, the bickering between Sarah and Kyle was just annoying, the foreshadowing of their baby making was cheesy. The CGI was average overall, the action scenes were kind of boring, the second timeline that branches from nowhere with a crappy explanation was stupid, John going back in time as a Terminator was stupid, since if Skynet turns John they win, the Resistance is over at that point, he doesn't need to go back. The whole movie just feels like a B movie with a Blockbuster budget and real actors that try their best to seem like D-listers.

Not interesting in seeing any sequel to this. There are ways to rejuvenate this franchise but clearly the current group isn't the team to do it and it won't and probably shouldn't happen for awhile.

can someone tell me how old is John Connor supposed to be in T2 and T3?

10 in T2. Police records say 10.

In T3, John says it's been 10 years since T2, but he says he was 13 when T2 happened.

T3 had some of the right ideas, but was really sloppy with continuity.

$353 million WW now, with it being released in China today I believe?

I was reasonably entertained by this film. However, the plot is nonsensical and I'm not sure I would go out of my way to watch it again. Definitely better than Salvation, though.

It's easily going to beat Salvation.

Yes, sequel definitely on the way.

Apparently it was the first Hollywood film released after those films were blocked for the summer. So, it might not be that audience were excited for the film in particular.

Yeah China has a blackout of all foreign films for a two month period so they can showcase Chinese films.

hmm. Kate says they made out in Mike Kripke's basement the night before T2 happens, so maybe they aged him because 10 year old making out is kind of creepy. but why doesn't John remembers them hooking up? ahh, T3 makes my head hurt :woot:

I noticed when Kyle fights the T800, it moves a bit like it did in the first movie. They put some stop motion in that sucker. I thought that was a good nod.

Which is fair. We don't even show foreign films in the US. Unless it's some Oscar thing.

Well if foreign movies made huge bank in US like Hollywood movies do in China then we would certainly more.

Shame on Chinese audiences. Okay I've gotten that off of my chest and now I'm cool.

I thought that myself but thought I was just imagining it! Glad I wasn't the only one!

What would people want to see in the sequel then? As I imagine it will be getting one once its International run is done as well as home sales.

I hope we get a new director and a sequel with Sarah, Kyle and Pops travelling into the future to save John Connor from becoming a machine.

Only thing I can see happening in a sequel is similar to the opening of this movie, where they're going to the time machine.

I really don't see where they can go from here. There's only so many times you can recycle the "protecting John/Sarah Connor" storyline IMO. Also, with Arnold now being a T-1000, where will the suspense be? What made T2 great was the fact that he was an inferior model. Now that he's effectively the apex predator of the terminators, that suspense will no longer be there.
