Simple enough. Who do you consider to be the greatest villain between the two?

THANOS

DOCTOR DOOM

Both awesome. Both have ridiculous feats. Both have shown altruistic tendencies if it suits them. Both speak in the third person and are some of the best at poetic, snobbish put downs.

But i'm going Thanos. He's what Doom would be if he had a bit more ambition and power. Plus he played a key role in the best event in Marvels, maybe all of comics, history; Annihilation.

I'd like to see an event centred around these two actually.

I think it's more ambitious to want the Earth than the Universe. Seems harder to take over the Earth.

:D

:doom: :doom: :doom:

It wasn't just the universe, it was the omniverse, let's get it straight. ;)

Don't roll your eyes at me. It was a joke. Hence the smiley face. And it's not a bad argument.

Galactus ate the superior Skrull Homeworld. Earth survived.

Oh and hey smartass... I know the Earth is part of the Universe.

Thanos. The guy is pure f**king evil, straight up rotten to the core.

Doom certainly does have it harder since he's on Earth and like 90% of the Marvel heroes are constantly in his way. But I've seen Thanos do much more evil s**t throughout the years.

Once you get past the eviscerating his mother thing, it's all pretty standard stuff. And Doom has a similar experience. He skinned his true love and wore her skin so he could get more power. Thanos was just curious. :D

Killing his mother out of curiosity is far more evil than killing his lover for power. And it's certainly a sight better than Doom, the perpetual momma's boy who has never succeeded in freeing his mother's soul from Mephisto's grasp, whereas Thanos made Mephisto his *****.

As for all that "standard stuff"? It was far more than Doom has ever managed to accomplish.

Actually he did free his mother. Years ago with Dr. Strange's help. Which leads me to believe that you have no working knowledge of Doom i.e. canceling your inaccurate statement about his accomplishments.

:doom: :doom: :doom:

Ah, so he needed Dr. Strange's help to get the job done. Gotcha. Whereas Thanos got the Infinity Gems all on his own. Which pretty much sums up the scale of what each can accomplish.

In order to free one soul from Mephisto, Doom needs Dr. Strange's help.

In order to attain omnipotence, Thanos does it all on his own.

That about sum it up?

And I'm not current on the past couple of years, but unless you can point to a series in recent years where Doom accomplished half the things which Thanos has done, then my point still stands. The most I ever saw Doom accomplish, aside from his brief experience in omnipotence in Secret Wars, was become President of the United States in 2099, and that was in a world with only a handful of superheroes. And even then that didn't last very long before he got booted out of power.

Actually he tricked Dr. Strange and was offering him in exchange. In the end his mother freed herself.

So give me a list?

Thanos became omnipotent. So did Doom.

Did it twice? So did Doom.

Everything else is just everyday villain stuff for both of them.

:doom: :doom: :doom:

Killed a universe. Doom did that when?

Everything else is just everyday villain stuff for both of them.

Except that Thanos operates on a whole order of magnitude greater than Doom.

Please put more cool picks :D, Thanos vs Galactus thread also needed more cool picks

Heroes Reborn? Why destroy it when you can rule it?

Power drain the Surfer, Galactus, Watchers and the Beyonder, his having outright conquered Marvel Earth and given it back out of boredom, his having made the Heroes Reborn Earth into his personal fiefdom, having survived shots from Thanos using the power gem, having caught Captain America's shield mid throw, having killed a lion when unarmed and unarmored, having managed to put one over on Mephisto himself, having immunized himself to Magneto's powers, having built a time machine, having built devices that let him move around in frozen time, having mastered a technique that lets him switch bodies with targets at will, being considered a legitimate candidate for Sorceror Supreme of the Earth dimension, having succeeded in developing a cure for the Thing's condition, having taken mental attacks from the Overmind and a Purple Man who had enslaved the entire planet, having thrown down in personal combat with Adam Warlock and the Magus...

What has Thanos done again?

Surviving a blast from a Power Gem wielding Thanos is incredible PIS. Thanos is a planet buster without the Power Gem.

They're both great villains but if you pitted them against each other, prepped or unprepped, Thanos wins.

Switching bodies with who? What, if Thanos and Doom switched? That'd be interesting.

Oooh, he killed a lion! OH MY GOD!!! Clearly scouring a universe of all life pales in comparison to that feat.

:whatever:

Power drain the Surfer

Thanos doesn't need to power drain the Surfer to beat him.

Galactus, Watchers and the Beyonder

Thanos has fought Galactus with his own regular power. And he's attained power far greater than what any of them possess.

his having outright conquered Marvel Earth and given it back out of boredom

Source? Or is this that same What If? that you put the cover up to? Because What If? comics don't count.

his having made the Heroes Reborn Earth into his personal fiefdom

So Doom only wins when you remove 90% of the opposition. Right.

having survived shots from Thanos using the power gem

So Doom only survives when Thanos purposefully fights with one arm tied behind his back. Gotcha.

having caught Captain America's shield mid throw

Thanos destroyed Captain America's shield.

having killed a lion when unarmed and unarmored

Thanos killed a universe while tied to a slab.

having managed to put one over on Mephisto himself

Thanos doesn't need to put one over on Mephisto, because Mephisto's no threat to him.

having immunized himself to Magneto's powers

Thanos doesn't need to fear Magneto.

having built a time machine

Thanos has time travel devices, too.

having built devices that let him move around in frozen time, having mastered a technique that lets him switch bodies with targets at will, being considered a legitimate candidate for Sorceror Supreme of the Earth dimension, having succeeded in developing a cure for the Thing's condition, having taken mental attacks from the Overmind and a Purple Man who had enslaved the entire planet, having thrown down in personal combat with Adam Warlock and the Magus...

And you really think all that is a comparison to what Thanos has accomplished? So he was a candidate for Sorcerer Supreme? Ah, so he never actually got the job. Thanos, on the other hand, became the universe. He was all of existence. That's far greater than Sorcerer Supreme and he wasn't simply offered the job, he became the universe.

Doom fought Warlock and Magus? Thanos engineered the defeat of Magus and the Universal Church of Truth, as well as the death of Adam Warlock. He's the Avatar of Death and is the Magus's counterpart in the universe. And the rest of that is useless trivia. The fact of the matter is this:

Thanos is vastly more powerful on a personal level.
He has access to much greater and more advanced technology.
He's far more intelligent than Doom.
He's achieved far more than Doom.
He's a universal threat whereas Doom is a planetary threat.

In every way Thanos is the greater villain.

Gotta go Thanos.

It seems to me like Doom will grant mercy, provided you kneel and acknowledge him as ruler.

However, Thanos just wants to kill everyone, or at least he DID want to, back in the day.

To me, that makes Thanos the better villain, per se, but i enjoy Doom's storylines a lot more.

Doom ruled the Earth in Emperor Doom. Then gave it back. That's canon.

Thanos is more villainous, Doom is the better character.
