I love how Wesley went from a pompus wimp to the ultimate badass watcher who tortured demons/humans, fought relentlessly, and always stood for what he believed in till the very end.

Even as he was on the edge of turning evil; he still remained on the good side and still cared about those close to him.

Well, they're seperate, but in the way two personalities of someone with dissociative identity disorder are seperate. They're two halves of a fractured mind. It's like saying Two Face and Harvey Dent are two different characters.
And some people will do so, yes. Either way, I'll trudge up a list later.

Wes: Best character arc ever. Badass with a shotgun.
Xander: If someone can pull off talking like a comic book and remain cool, you've gotta respect that.
Willow: Disturbingly hot nerd, and a Dark Phoenix-ish storyline. What's not to love.
Spike: Really good as a villain (his driving style still cracks me up. Spike lite was okay in later seasons.
Fred/Illyria: Amy Acker is just adorable, and plays both to perfection.
The Mayor: All kinds of awsome.
Lilah: HAWT, but in a grown up way :).
Cordelia: Great on Buffy, not so great on Angel.
Gunn
Lorne: A Gay Karaoke Demon. I can't believe it worked.

Fair point about Xander, do you really think Lorne worked?

A lot better than what you expect, when you hear a Gay Karaoke Demon as a Regular Character.

He was the Anya of Angel. Out of place, but entertaining.

Maybe, he amused me to start with as the Demon "Barry Manilow", but then the last 2 series of Angel for me lost it all round. As did the last 3 of Buffy.

From Angel, those are my favorite seasons. To each it's own I guess.

I agree, the last season of Angel was my favorite. And I really like season 6 of Buffy, it's up there with season 2.

Interesting thing, I never really liked Angel, but when he tried to kill Wesley, I started to hate him with passion.
I loved the whole supporting cast though. I just hoped someone will finally stake him :)

I totally agree with that list, although Lorne should be on it, and Conner should be off it....

I also believe Buffy shouldn't be on any list due to an overwhelming LACK of any character of all...

Thats your opinion about Buffy, I am free to disagree. I liked the Buffyverse when Whedon had input and it was at Warner. Before they made it Gothic and Emo. I preffered the concept of the dark things which usually eat cheerleaders getting their arses kicked by a nubile petite blonde schoolgirl ;). I kind of wasn't into the whole Dark Willow bit or series 3 and 4 Angel. I felt it was trying to hard to be cool, but that's my opinion. For me Gothic cool was the Jesus and Mary chain, The Cult etc. and it ended somewhere round 88.

No one else has any love for Buffy's mom?

I got to seven, but then I became kinda bored, so yeah...

#1: Wesley
My favourite character in the entire Buffyverse, this is a man that went from the clumsily charming Watcher too badass rogue demon hunter. He's been on the outs with the Buffy crew and with the Angel crew, but in the end, they all came back to him. Never grovelling but appreciating his skills and knowledge. There was never was a more developed character, and I often felt his issues even outshone those of the resident mass-murderer Angel (and really, that says a lot in comparison). Daddy-issues, women-issues, there wasn't a thing this guy didn't have the worst of luck in, but he rose above them each and time. Preferably by pulling the two-handed gun manouvre. Badass to the core.

#2: Willow
Pretty much everyone in my generation has this odd fascination with Alyson Hannigan, and I'm one of them. I love her and can't get enough of her. Her role as Willow only exemplified that. If she weren't gay, she'd probably be my perfect girlfriend. It's made her a joy to watch as she grew from the shy college nerd to the more extrovert wicca cool chick but with a heart of gold. She doesn't always speak often or loud, but always says the best words. And really now, she's a lesbian. +10 points.

#3: Giles
He's the teacher we all really liked and could get along with. Beyond that, he also showed him to be quite the badass in later seasons (beating up Ethan, listening to Cream etc.). Often providing the comic relief in conjunction with Xander showed us a side that was markedly in contrast with the chainsaw-wielding-Giles and the killing-Ben-Giles. He was the ultimate father figure, always looking out for the rest of the gang, and really showed that adults are people too. Not to mention, who didn't cheer when Giles in true badass form busted in on Dark Willow's little parade with a snarky "I'd like to test that theory." Besides, he's British. Japan's so last year, England is cool again.

#4: Faith
The Slayer everybody wanted to shag more than they did Buffy. Best thing was, she couldn't stop thinking about sex either, which made her really cool to your average 13/15-year old boy. Buffy had her badass moments here and there, but Faith quickly outshone her in season three as the girl we either loved to hate, or just plain loved. Her coolness went down a little with the whole starved/anorexic look in that first season of Angel, but she quickly rose the ladder again in time for season four of Angel, when the Wesley-Faith team was never better. She gave life to a season seven of Buffy on life-support as well.

#5: Spike
The third British guy on the list so far with an accent a lot of people try to immitate. He was John Constantine in the Buffyverse before I even knew who John Constantine was. Where Angel was the cool vampire that kept silent, Spike was the roaring hard-rock chain-smoking badass in the long leather coat that was a joy to watch. That kind of died down when he became Buffy's latest vampire ***** but he stepped back into the game thanks to his appearances on season five when we all got to see the cool Spike again.

#6: Gunn
When he first came onto the show he was just kind of there, not really a part of the crew. When Angel left however, and he started to become good friends with Wesley, Gunn's own character started to shine. He was friends with a man that was ultimately the opposite of Gunn himself and it was a great fuel for their later rivalry and enemity. Gunn's coolness was largely based on how he played off the others, but with the weaker Cordelia and the early on brainy/weak Wesley, Gunn was a real asset, and made his presence felt, a role he'd forsake in season five, and to great drama for all.

#7: Connor
There were times you really wanted to *****slap the hell out of Connor, but on the other hand, as a teen myself, he was the guy that embodied some aspects of the Buffy show that Angel had lost thanks to its usually more mature cast. Often, Connor was also pretty much a badass, and the tension between him, Angel and Wesley was great, especially when Faith also later arrived on the scene for a while. The Cordy/Connor thing? Blegh.

that, and "I was a higly respected Watcher, now I'm a wounded dwarf with the magical strenght of a doily." were two of my favourite BTVS lines.

How does Buffy not have any character?

And I always preferred Spike as a villain.
