The 2010-2011 NHL Thread: Race for the Playoffs!

only 1 of the last 7 President's Trophy winners have won the Cup (Wings in 07-08). And the past two years they've gone out in the 1st round...

There's a difference between playoff hockey and regular season hockey, and sometimes teams that play well in the playoffs tank in the post-season and vice versa. Vancouver will be going into the playoffs with a very healthy team, a rested goaltender and arguably the top player in the game (and his twin brother). I like their chances based on THAT, not on where they finished in the standings.

I would like Vancouver as Cup champion this year, but they are not the favorites in my mind. Our best players--Luongo, Daniel and Henrik, Kesler, Burrows--have been okay in the playoffs, but I've never really seen them step it up. And I'm still concerned about defense.

Henrik Sedin is not even CLOSE to being the top player in the game. Just because he is having an awesome year and leads in points now does not make him "arguably the top player in the game"

Come on now

It's actually Daniel Sedin that's leads the NHL in points, Henrik is tied with Steven Stamkos for second and also leads the NHL in assists.

The fact that you were unaware of this prove you don't really know what your talking about.

Guys, guys, guys...

Guys

The best player on the Ottawa squad (whoever he be) is clearly the best in the league

Yeah, the best player on the Senators. That's like being the prettiest girl in Manitoba, or the smartest guy in New Brunswick. :p

Or the least insane in Toronto

Seriously, just about veryone in Toronto is insane. ****ing Leafers

Hey at least your best Sens player is an actual Sens player. The Oilers best player now is basically the best player from their AHL affiliate :csad:

Eww that's like Rick Mercer humour. And that guy's "Canadian observations" are not funny.

SPEAKING OF MANITOBA THOUGH, and by extension WINNEPEG, apparently Glendale is looking into AHL teams to be replacement tenants, and we've got the first real indication of a deadline (that I'm aware of). Says Glendale mayor Elaine Scruggs (great last name)
TSN said:
At a community meeting attended by members of Glendale City council on Tuesday night, Mayor Elaine Scruggs suggested that within a couple of weeks, the city may be faced with pursuing a minor league team as a replacement tenant if the Coyotes leave town.
If the bonds do not sell, Scruggs said, the Coyotes are gone. "The team will leave for Canada," she said. "We can argue forever, but it is what it is. This is how things are done in the bond market."
The Goldwater Institute - a local government watchdog group - is threatening to sue if Glendale enters into the bond deal, saying it would put taxpayers at risk and illegally subsidize a private business.

This is one of those situations where it's hard to get optimistic until they actually drop the puck in Winnipeg, but that two week deadline is interesting to look at.

Henrik Sedin is the better player ( OMG I did not cross reference NHL stats OMG)...I know more about this **** then you...Vancouver fans need to calm down before they choke again like they do every year.

"Bingo Bongo Roberto Luongo fails to advance to a Stanley Cup."

Dont give me **** about Daniel Sedin...i'd take henrik 10 times out of 10 between the two.
Canucks fans are also still bitter about alot of things in hockey, but when someone tells them NO you do NOT have the best player in the game they start a sissy fit.

I hope that they can use the Winnipeg Jets instead of coming up with some other stupid nickname

I know this one guy who has been begging the hockey gods to bring back hockey to Winnipeg...I am with him. Shame how that place lost the team back then.

Winnipeg/Canada should get another franchise

So you know more about "this **** then me" yet you had to cross reference stats? lol and the Vancouver fans here are calm. We have a great team this year and we know it. I honestly don't care who you think the best player in the game is. I know that I have a couple of them on my team.

I never intended to discuss my best player...I just thought calling Sedin arguably the top player in the game is pure homerism and completely incorrect...This is not to say I don't think Sedins are top quality players, they are...But put down the kool-aid when it comes to best in the game.

statistically speaking, yes I think he is.

I am assuming you were puffing the same stuff when Markus Naslund was with the Canucks and was racking up top 3 in points for a couple of years

So if a player wins the league MVP and the scoring title in the same year it's homerism and stupidity suggesting he's the best player in the league? What if I said Ovechkin? Would that just make me a bandwagon Capitals fan? Or Crosby? Would that be just liking who the NHL wants me to like?

I said Daniel is arguably the best player in the league because he is leading said league in points, is 2nd in goals, 3rd in assists and will likely have over 100 points by the season end. You can say you disagree, but you don't have to be a tool about it and might as well at least suggest who you think is better.

As long as the Canucks don't draw Chicago in the first round they should be fine.

Before the start of the season I had Caps/Canucks, see how the marathon ends.

But thats the thing...Sedin's are not in the same mole as Ovechkin or Crosby. I have no issues with that...I find it funny and a odd choice considering its homerism as Canuck fans.

Go ahead and root for the Sedins all you want and be proud about them, but dont state them as the best.

Its the same with people talking about Joe Thornton...What has the guy done to help his team move onto the next phase?

I'll take Henrik Zetterberg over the Sedins any day of the week.
If Sedins can take it up a notch in the playoffs and continue this pace another 2 years or so then we can finally put them in the same class as the best in the game.
