And the repubs get the house. It was a blowout.

I can't say I'm surprised. The interesting part will be to see what they do or don't do with it, now that they have it.

im busy as **** is pelosi gong to keep her seat or no? i forget how it all works out.

Not surprised to see Pat Leahy, John McCain, Daniel Inoyue (spelling?) and Charles Schumer retain their seats.

She is going to keep her seat. All the Republicans that screwed up the economy in the Bush years were defeated in a witch hunt in 2006 and 2008 and the same thing is happening right now with the Democrats but somehow Pelosi, Reid, and Frank all weaseled their way back into their cushy jobs.

she's a congresswoman, but no longer Speaker of the House if that's what you're asking.

thats it. who is the new speaker, boehner or mcconnel (right? my memory is hazy)

boehner....assuming the GOP congressman elect him, most likely since he is currently minority leader.

McConnel is a senator. Dems keep Senate.

I'm very surprised that Harry Reid won re-election. Personally, I consider this to be the upset of this election, considering that he had everything against him.

Although I do imagine that Schumer, Durbin, and many progressive are rather disappointed right now. And it's for the best, I'd rather have Harry Reid as Majority Leader than those two and Angle was just flat out crazy.

Lesson here...just because you're tea party doesn't guarantee victory if you're crazy or quirky. Ask O'Donnell too.

Looking at you Palin.

Luke Russert doing this election coverage for NBC. His father would have been proud.

It's official, Susana Martinez (Our City DA) first woman Governor for NM (Either one could have one), and first (R) in a long time. We shall see how this turns out, and I hope will be a lot better than as everyone had dubbed, "Fat Bill."

I was wrong before, I was looking at our local it seems Steve Pearce rewon his job back.

damnit. Republicans pretty much sweeped Pennsylvania.

So with Schwartzenegger done as California governor, does he return to movies?

Well it looks like the election played out as many of us suspected. The surprises for me were it looks like Bennet will keep his Senate seat from Colorado and Harry Reid won Nevada by a 5 point margin. I predicted Reid would win--candidates like Angle and O'Donnell are just too out there to win statewide or national seats--but for him to get over 50% and have a handy win? Not bad. I was also surprised Etheridge lost his seat in NC and the near-sweep of contested races in Virginia for the House.

But a 50-60 seat swing for the GOP in the House and the Dems to hold onto the Senate by the skin of their teeth? Sounds accurate.

I sincerely hope that (presumably) Speaker Boehner and President Obama can actually agree to co-govern this Congress now that both parties are in power and can (to use a word from Clinton's presidency that causes ideologues on both sides to shiver) triangulate on some issues.

It seems progressivism for all intensive purposes is done (for at least a number of years). But on issues like immigration and deficit reduction, I think there could be common ground for both sides to reach if a push for bipartisanship is real.

But pushing for an unpaid for $700 billion tax cut for the rich and repealing "Obamacare" is not the way to go and I hope Boehner is sincere in his speech and will reign in these partisan issues. And if the Tea Partiers now in DC are serious about fighting corruption, perhaps they'll be interested in looking into the Disclose Act? Not likely, but if they mean what they say, there should be a compromise to be found there.

Congrats to the Republicans, you're back. Please stop saying "No," and start trying to help improve the country.

Democrats did jack crap while they held all the cards so whatever.

Obama's inexperience has definitely showed in the last 2 years.

Can someone finally fire Chris Matthews for calling an elected official a MORON on MSNBC?

Also props to someone for finally calling Matthews live on the air for the TINGLY UP MY LEG comment. Matthews is a moron.

I thought he was too socialist and did "too much?" Whether you like or hate his policies (I'm going to go ahead and say the latter for you) he has done a lot. A lot that I'm sure you hate (health care, stimulus, auto recovery, student loan reform, Wall Street reform, pulling out over 100,000 troops in Iraq, escalating Afghanistan, etc.)

It seems that most people just don't care, because at the end of the day unemployment is still over 9.5 percent. :awesome:

Oh well.

Everyone already called it for Barbara Boxer, but considering the reported difference between them right now is around 10,000 votes, doesn't that seem a bit...premature? Makes me nervous.

I still want all the hope, change, and yes we can he ran on. I've yet to see any of that.

That's ALL he ran on and I want to know where it is.

Good point. He has focused on winning major legislation and administrative rulemaking, but he has failed to keep his base/coalition united for the last two years and to keep the American people on his side. And whatever reason you want to say for that, he is suffering the results tonight. Albeit, I am highly skeptical of those who say that mistake has ruined his presidency (obviously).

With that said...he did campaign on health care, leaving Iraq, escalating Afghanistan and post-8/28/08 a stronger Wall Street Reform and some vague "government stimulus program."

It just seems some who signed up for "change," didn't read the fine print on what some of that may entail. But I imagine now that he has lost so many friends in Congress, he is going to try to return to that image and work with the Republicans...and push some of the blame on them when gridlock inevitably happens, I do suspect.

Well, he gave us hope at the beginning. So there's that?

I remember when he was elected, I was ****ing happy. I can actually watch his interviews and know he'll pronounce words correctly! Every time Bush spoke my head nearly exploded.

And now he's kind of dissapointed some. Many expected instant change. But oh well. Obama has two years to get his **** together. I wish him good luck. He's gonna need it
