The Acolyte: Episode 4 (Spoiler Thread)

That was not a good episode. Every scene that takes place on Coruscant just looks cheap and the dialogue between Osha and Jecki was cringe. I’m also wondering whether it’s supposed to be this obvious that Qimir is the mysterious Sith and it’s less about his identity and more about his end goal since Sol said he senses this being a small part of a bigger plot.

The last minute or so was the best part of this entire series so far but to echo others, they should have saved the Sith’s reveal for that moment instead of what we got at the end of the first episode.

So, for anyone who thought the cliffhanger to this episode was super abrupt, according to the writer for this and next week’s episode, to the surprise of no one, it’s exactly for the reason you think it is:




I get logistically why they did it, to get people to come back for the next episode and get those streaming numbers, but they really need to change their approach to how they make them and how long they need to be. Either write them differently, or make the budget smaller so you can have more episodes and/or make them longer.

If there is one thing I will agree with everyone on, it’s that the cut off for that cliffhanger is ridiculous for how short the episode is. You really do feel the episode runtime mandate by Disney for this one.

I've just come to accept that the majority of Disney+ shows are always going to feel like movies split into 6-8 parts rather than an episodic series and this is no different. The only D+ shows I've seen that didn't feel like movies were WandaVision, She-Hulk, The Mandalorian and What If?. Even Andor felt like it could have been a trilogy with the way it was structured, at least to me.

About that. In the screencrush recap of this episode, they said that guy is one of the only Jedi that was allowed to marry and have children.

Okay so you’re telling me that people as attractive as Obi-Wan, Yord, Indara, etc. are forced to be celibate but a guy with a forehead that looks like… that is out there getting laid?

Okay so you’re telling me that people as attractive as Obi-Wan, Yord, Indara, etc. are force to be celibate but a guy with a forehead that looks like… that is out there getting laid?

Yeah, I remember that at least being part of the old pre-Disney canon. I think you get a pass if your species is on the verge of extinction and you have to procreate but I can't remember if marriage was allowed as part of that. And what was it Anakin said in AOTC, "Attachment is forbidden" for a Jedi, so no reason they couldn't go pay a visit to some Coruscant brothel as long as they didn't get attached.

I also saw a lot of people complaining on Twitter because at least according to the original canon Ki-Adi Mundi shouldn't have even been born yet at the time of The Acolyte. Of all the things to care about.

I enjoyed the episode. The only thing that didn’t work for me was Mae abandoning her mission and seemingly turning “good” out of the blue. I thought maybe she was just faking that to throw Darth Bortles off because she doesn’t trust him, but I guess not.

That was so laughably bad I blocked it out of my mind. Seems like everyone is waiting for some massive turnaround to explain all this infantile writing but I don't see that happening.

Anyway, new canon, Jedi are horny as ****. In fact, one of characters in the High Republic books is a bit of a player.

It was meh for me.

While Seong... I mean Sol , is pretty cool , I'm pretty indifferent to the series ,and I thought the first to episodes were okay at least.

The cliffhanger cut off isn't the issue. The issue is the cliffhanger was the only good part of the episode for a lot of people. So when something finally good happens, the cliffhanger feels worse then if the episode had been awesome.

Enjoyed the episode, I am intrigued by the mystery of it all, and of course that ending was awesome.

Everything here points to Qmir being the Sith Lord, and he did show a little bit of a dark side when he realised Osha wasn't Mae in episode 2. But it seems a bit too obvious.

The Sith Lord killing a wookie Jedi with ease and then heavily force pushing several Jedi means he/she is damn powerful.

Not that I'm expecting Yoda or that he needs to be in it, it's just one of those times where a cameo wouldn't feel shoehorned in given the setting of the story.

So obvious that I hope its a red herring. But if its not him then its either a witch or a Jedi (or far less likely Darth Plaguies). Either way is there really anything that will surprise us?

I feel like we've reached a point where the internet has made mystery stories irrelevant. There is nothing they can come up with that won't be guessed ahead of time by the hive mind. (Remember when we all knew who Sauron was before ROP even aired?)

And Star Wars was never about mysteries. The big reveal in ESB was a total surprise because it wasn't setup ahead of time. Even Lucas didn't know because he was still making it up at that point. Its impossible to try to replicate that.

This is certainly an opinion.

And Star Wars was never about mysteries. The big reveal in ESB was a total surprise because it wasn't setup ahead of time. Even Lucas didn't know because he was still making it up at that point. Its impossible to try to replicate that.

Who says they're trying to replicate the Darth Vader reveal? Even then, there's nothing wrong with Star Wars incorporating mysteries. It's silly to point at a franchise that has spanned over 40 years with millions of stories spouting off of it and go "Well it was never about this kind of thing".

Same tbh. I'm just neutral about it so far. I want them to blow my mind, but I'm scared this show (or at least this season) is going to crash and burn.

I wasn’t able to see episode 3 last week so I binged both today. I like a lot of what’s in here. I especially like the mythology that they’re exploring but man this show is rough around the edges. There’s something really weird happening with the pacing and the editing where sometimes it feels like they’re doing a speedrun through the dialogue. One of the reasons I was really excited to watch this show was the cast and a lot of them are being very badly wasted. I don’t know if it’s reasonable to expect the next 4 episodes to fix all the issues with this show but for now, the good parts have me intrigued enough to keep coming back.
