A couple of the IT guys at work were talking about the flick, and I had forgotten that it had been so long since it came out, back in '91. I still watch it whenever the cable channels show it at random, and while I basically grew up on the original show, this one was more based on the original Charles Addams drawings, which were pretty gruesome compared to the toned down 1960's show. Did you find the movie to be a decent interpretation of the characters?

I like The Addams Family, in almost all incarnations.

The movie is a gem because it's one of the very, VERY few movies patterned after an old TV show that doesn't suck outright. The casting of that movie was perfect, the dark sense of humor was there, and there was actually - gasp! - a PLOT.

The first sequel with Joan Cusack was O.K., but I tried sitting through that last one with Tim Curry and Daryl Hannah and couldn't do it. I hate direct-to-video.

Addams Family is one of the few movies based on TV shows that manage to improve the characters without missing the humor and essence of the TV show.

    The other is Mission: Impossible.

Both Adams Family and Adams Family Values were awesome. It was the straight to DVD films that sucked big time.

Same here. The second just amplified the characters they had established in the original (Especially Wednesday!). The only downer of the original for me is that it didn't really have Uncle Fester in it, and the sequel fixed that for me!......

I love the TV show and both movies. the direct to video movies weren't the best, but the TV show that followed them was watchable after a horrible start.

Such a grreat dark comedy for the family. I saw both The Addams Family and Addams Family Values recently. Both are excellent and VERY funny and morbid. The fact that some very cruel humor can get by in a kid's mvoie is surprising and I have to say Christinna Ricci's Wednesday Addams stole the show every time and is the sole reason why I think Addams Family Values may surpass the first. Both are gold though and prove what comedic underrated genius poor Raul Julia was.

Great fun, that you couldn't get away with today then.

Great Movies (I & II). Excellent casting, and I never miss the opportunity to watch them, I forget everything else when those movies are on TV. Family, Friends, they are just obstacles on the way to the TV :)

    Raul Julia's performance is excellent.

That hospital scene at the beginning of Values always makes me laugh.

Young Girl: ...and then Mommy kissed Daddy, and the angel told the stork, and the stork flew down from heaven, and put the diamond in the cabbage patch, and the diamond turned into a baby!

Pugsley: Our parents are having a baby too.

    Wednesday: They had sex.

I love the scene with Raul Julia at the police station. It's the first thing I always think of when I remember that movie.

Good thing you didn't type the lyrics to "Whoomp, There it is (The Addams Family)" that they play in the second movie.
