I don't know if a mod wants to merge this with the Al Franken thread over in the community section and move it over here, but for those of you interested Norm Coleman leads Al Franken by only 2 votes as of today. The Minneapolis Star Tribune is predicting Franken should win by as many as 89 votes.

Politico reports that Franken is up by 78 votes today.

Ugh...even though I don't like Coleman, I'd rather have him than Franken, who's just plain annoying IMO.

As a Minnesotan (who didn't vote for either Al or Norm) I am not only bored of this but also suspicious. The courts really let both candidates go crazy with these challenged ballots. Its one thing to have a recount but bringing in discarded challenged ballots is silly. Now we have both parties throwing around scribbled ballots to interpret.

Nothing about this race has smelled genuine. Then when you see the way they do ballots, and some of the completely assinine "errors" on those ballots it becomes more clear why this is a debacle.

These people are making the Florida "hanging chad" folks seem like geniuses.

I think this is probably my favorite of the challenged ballots...

Lizard People?

I take it you didn't hear about this? The guy that supposedly wrote in "the Lizard People" came forward a few weeks ago. He wrote it in as a joke, but intended to vote for Al Franken. Poor guy is probably terrified at all the hate that will be directed toward him if Coleman wins by a vote, which oddly enough isn't completely out of the realm of possibilities at this point.

lol.... While I was looking for a picture of the disputed "lizard people" ballot I stumbled across this.

Hahaha, that's pretty funny. Someone should do one of those Obama Hope posters but instead have The Lizard from Spider-Man.

Yeah. Too bad the outcome of THAT particular fiasco led to eight years of epic failure.

At least the future of the country doesn't hang on this one.

The difference between Florida and Minnesota is simple: Florida decided the presidential race, whereas all we are dealing with in Minnesota is a Senate election.

Honestly, the outcome of this election doesn't matter at all to me. Norm Coleman is a total *****ebag and Al Franken is unequipped for the Senate. Whoever wins, Minnesota loses.

Absentees push Franken's Senate lead to 312

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Democrat Al Franken's lead in Minnesota's U.S. Senate race has grown to 312 votes now that hundreds of absentee ballots have been added to the counting.

A three-judge panel ruled that the rejected absentee ballots should be opened and counted after hearing weeks of testimony in a lawsuit brought by Republican Norm Coleman.

Franken led by 225 votes going into Tuesday's count of those absentee ballots.

The judges allowed 351 absentees into the count and Franken picked up more of them than Coleman did.

Other issues are still pending in Coleman's lawsuit, and he has said he will appeal to the state Supreme Court if he loses.

I'm sorry, I'm all for fighting in court when you have a case, Even a small case, But I think it's time for Coleman to give it up. It's over, He lost, Move on already.

The only reason Coleman and the republicans are fighting this this hard is because, 1) It keeps the dems from having one more vote in the Senate and 2) It's Al Franken and they can't stand him.

Neither reason is a good excuse for denying the people of Minnesota a representative.

Wasn't it Coleman who told Franken that he should drop out for the good of the people of Minnesota when it looked like he was ahead last year? I guess what's good for the goose isn't so good for the gander.

As much as I can't stand Franken, I gotta agree with you. There's no way Coleman can win this and he just needs to give it up. Franken won, even if it wasn't a clean one.

I agree.

It won't be the first time someone has stolen an election, there is really no good that can come out of Coleman continuing the fight.

I just heard that this is still going on today and couldn't believe it.

I actually hope that this never gets resolved. Until one of them die. I'm sorry harsh words, but as a Minnesotan I would rather not have a senator than one of them.
The weird thing about this election was the induction of discarded ballots.

Coleman had the lead on election night but it was so close they asked for a recount, and then Franken lobbied to include ballots that were thrown out because they were undecipherable.

So then a bunch more ballots that should have been ignored because of voter ignorance were counted towards the election.

Personally, I do think that there was some bias towards Franken in the recount process.

Just genetically splice them, and then seat the resulting abomination of God, that's only fair.

I say they need to throw out the entire election, start over, and tell them both.......sorry no one really likes either of you and we are getting new candidates.....*smiles*

And then on the other hand, I would rather have a rock sitting in that seat than have Franken. *shudders* Thank god, I live in Texas.
