The All New, All Star Batman & Robin Thread!

so is the series worth picking up or nah? if not, i'll just stick with All-Star Superman (which I have yet to read)
if you're OK with a Batman being a kidnapping, cop car-crushing, Black Canary-bangin psycho with a completely different relationship with a smart-ass Dick Grayson surrounded in a world with Wonder Woman being a man-hating feminist warrior still with a weakness for Superman's dreamy eyes, Joker being a hooker-killing Yakuza gangster, or if you just REALLY like Jim Lee's art- then yeah it's work checking out.

So for a great cop and the only good one in Gotham, Gordon is a terrible detective.

"Hmmm this looks like nothing. I'll just toss it into the river."

Way to go Gordon...you'll make Commish in no time :whatever:

like mee said gordon knew batman was there, what you wanted to be more obvious,

"GEE THIS NOTE MEANS NOTHING I'LL JUST LEAVE IT HERE AND HOPE NO SUPERHEROES PICK IT UP"

It's possibly a story point they work together but never actually meet, plausible deny ability

Mee beat me to it. But I was thinking the same thing.

Seconded....It makes no sense for the gordon of YO and even just a few issues ago (Where he said the only problem with Batman are the copycats) to be THAT harsh about Bats

It's possible and I guess we won't know for a few weeks but still with things as bad as they've been i nthe last 9 issues, can you really put it past Frank?

Black Canary banging? I pretty much knew how everything else was. But Black Canary banging? That's kinda wrong considering that Batman is messin with Green Arrow's woman. Has Green Arrow showed up at all in it?

no, no Green Arrow. Batman and Canary take down some baddies on the docks and then they just go at it right there. and they leave their masks on because "its better that way".

wow. i might just stay away from All Star Batman and Robin because of that. seems like Frank is finally losing it.

Good. Stay away. This isn't meant for those incapable of handling anything that isn't your average cookie cutter superfriends Batman .

i'm not looking for cookie cutter superfriends Batman. Batman from DKR and DKR: SA wasn't ur average cookie cutter superfriends Batman now was he. no.

And what you fail to realize is that Miller has always stayed consistent with his characterization of Batman. He never betrays that.

Those that argue that the Batman he wrote in YO and DKR would never act this way are just not paying attention. The stuff is there in those books.Miller is just putting a spotlight and drawing attention to certain things in this book.

Perfect example:Batman laughing like a maniac as he drops down on thugs.he clearly does this in YO and DKR.Only difference is he does it a lot more here..

He also gives her an Irish brogue, I guess to make her more of a sexy hooligan.

No, Green Arrow has not shown up yet. Batman and Black Canary together takes place right after she becomes Black Canary so Black Canary and Green Arrow have not even meet yet. So Black Canary is not Green Arrow's woman yet. Jim Lee said in Wizard that All-Star Batman & Robin is "going to involve a lot of characters like Black Canary, possibly Green Arrow and possibly the Question," Lee teased. Green Arrow appeared in Jim Lee's All-Star Batman preview art, so Green Arrow should show up eventually. Green Arrow is in both Dark Knight Returns and DK2.

can you post the Green Arrow preview art

I don't have the Green Arrow one on my computer. It's shown on the Batman Begins two-disc deluxe edition DVD set, disc 2, in Genesis of the Bat when Dan DiDio, Jim Lee and Bob Schreck discuss All-Star Batman & Robin, and black and white Jim Lee preview art sketches of Batman, Robin, Mr. Freeze - I have the Mr. Freeze one on my computer:

Joker, Green Arrow, Green Lantern, and Zatanna are shown.

That's flat out wrong. In DKR, yes Batman laughed like a maniac as he attacked thugs, but in YO there was no evidence of this. The only thing he does as he drops down on thugs is growls. He says something to the effect "I give them a growl I brought straight from Africa"

In YO Batman isn't shown to enjoy hurting people, he only views it as a means to an end, he's a man on a mission. We don't get long monologues about how he enjoys snapping arms or hearing screams of criminals. Batman in YO is much more "grounded" or at least as "grounded" as Batman can be. He even admits that he can't do all of this alone and seeks out the help of Jim Gordon, and Harvey Dent. He's willing to trust others.

Batman in TDK and ASBR is a fanatic who enjoys causing pain to others, sees no problem with stealing a child and making him eat rats, or blowing up cop cars (and probably cops), that weren't directly attacking him.

Miller has changed his characterization of Batman. By and large, most of his stories have Batman as the same character, but to say that the Batman in YO is similar to the Batman in DKR or ASBR is ridiculous. Actually, YO feels like it's almost written by a different writer, because Miller changed the characterization so dramatically form DKR. If it wasn't for making Selina a hooker, I wouldn't have thought it written by him at all.

i don't care about continuity or what batman would or wouldn't do. i like the art and its a fun read. if you don't like it, don't buy it.

When is this coming out again? I didn't even see it with next week's releases on the Diamond List. Odd since we already have a preview...

I hope so... I'm going into withdrawal. :p

Dccomics.com has it slated for september 10th.

does anyone have the rough designs for robin by Lee? his costume ideas were badass.

we was in the last issue in full costume against Green Lantern.
