The All New, All Star Batman & Robin Thread!

Seriously I probably will be waiting for the Vol 2 TPB because I'm not a huge fan, but it still pisses me off. This is why I don't by the monthly issues of stuff like this.

dont band all monthly comics. it's just All Star Bats and Robin. Detective Comics is a great read tho to pass the time till the next issue of All Star Bats and Robin comes out.

Yeah that's what I meant. It's these special books that usually do this.

You're better off buying the individual issues. Who knows when Vol. 2 will come out.

...oh my God. how did this make it to print in the first place??

That's what i'd like to know. All of that seemed really inappropriate to begin with, too. Frank Miller couldn't come up with a better way to tell the reader that these guys are scumbags? And Batgirl couldn't say "Goddamned Batgirl"?

Not only that, those stupid black bars are distracting. Write something different if you know what you currently have is gonna be censored. Frank Miller has managed to write several Batman stories with scumbag everyday villains without this. I see no reason for him to start. and don't give me that stupid "it's Frank Miller doing what he's always done" argument, because those panel show that it's rather excessive.

On the flipside, i'll ask my comic guy tomorrow if they got any in. I don't feel like waiting 2 weeks.

they can't let ya have it. tho, i'm gonna see if Michael, my local comic book owner, will let me have a copy if he gets 'em. cuz that means it's rare and collectible.

I think Batgirl saying "god damn Batgirl" would have been ridicilously lame, and she is a teenager and nowdays the most common swear word is the F word so yeah.

LOL! This is classic! I love the angst inside and surrounding this whole project.

Believe me, those "uncensored" version will be collectors issues.

"God Damn" is kind of the running gag throughout the book, though. It would have been funny.

Regardless, if it said "God Damn" or "F***ing", it would have sounded really stupid when read anyway. using "F***ing" makes it sound even stupider though, in my opinion.

Well you know kids these days! all about the F word!

I think it's quite obsvious now that ASBR is nothing more than a joke from Frank Miller. He is probably laughing somewhere that he makes thousands of $ with the stuff he probably writes in 30 minutes.

HECK, I could write 10 of such issues a day.

It makes me laugh and smile so I have no problem with it.

It does the same with me, but this was just like "REALLY?! You have to resort to THIS in a BATMAN book?" Frank Miller or not, it wasn't called for. This is a man who has written some of the greatest Batman and Daredevil stories i've ever read. And he did it without using that kind of language. It seems trivial and it bothers me that i'm making a fuss over it.

Anyways, i went to my comic shop today to see if they had it. They didn't, but me and the guy working had a conversation about it. He said that they didn't get any copies of it in their shipment, but that some bigger name shops most likely got them. Whether or not they decided to get rid of them is all up to them. Keep an eye out, i guess.

And another thing: How much do you wanna bet that come two weeks from now, it's gonna be delayed again anyway?

Honestly I don't know about you but it is definitly original and creative. I mean before this nobody would have ever thought to do a series like this. Even though it seems idiotic I think I am actually getting what he is going for. It is making me think maybe he is purposly doing everything this way to have it later blow up in Batmans face. Batman could be viewed as a smart ass who might get knocked down a peg or two and he is using this crazy teenager mentality to express it.

I guess it would be like trying to explain a Picasso painting. Some people see something in it, others don't.

no, i agree with you. I'm actually a big defender of the book. I love it. I get where Miller's taking it, atleast with Batman and Robin. I'll say it again: I love this book.

i'm just bothered by the fact that Miller has to use language like that in a Batman book, where past instances have proven that he never had to, to get characterization across. Those skateboarder drug pushers are scumbags. Batgirl kicks a**. There's more ways to show that, both visually and literary than having the dude call Batgirl a c*** and have Batgirl drop an f-bomb. Besides, it would have been funnier if she said "God Damn Batgirl" because that would cause an uproar, in all the right ways. I don't think Miller needs to resort to using that language. In a Batman book anyway. If i want to see foul language in a Batman book, i'll wait until DC gives Garth Ennis free reign in a mature, non-canon Batman title. Until then, i don't think it's necessary. Not to mention, it sounds awkward trying to read Miller's dialogue with curse words in it too. It doesn't sound...cool.

that, and i HATE HATE HATE black censor bars in comics. They could have used those symbols instead. Would have been annoying too, but wouldn't have interrupted the flow of things as much.

I hated the black censor bars too and I hate that Frank Miller would have to use so much language in a book where he's knows he will be censored. I'm all for creative free reign and I hate censorship, but I hate it even more when a TV show or in this case comic is going to use excessive language and then turn around and censor the hell out of it.

It's like watching George Carlin on NBC. That just wouldn't be funny.
