The All New and Improved Batman Reboot Casting Thread

**** another good suggestion.

Keep 'em coming.

Brad Pitt
Colin Farrell
Ethan Hawke
Guy Pearce
Jeffrey Wright
Joel Edgerton
Justin Theroux

Some very good castings there! 45-55 years old is what I want and those names are certainly within range.

I'm still pushing for Tom Hanks to take the role of commissioner Gordon. I really get the feeling that he would be good for the part when I'm watching Road to Perdition.
Yes, he played a gangster in the role, but a lot of aspects of that character could be put towards Jim Gordon. In the opening scenes, his family is waiting for him to get home. He's running late, the kids are worried in the mom is trying to save face, telling them that he'll be home any minute. When he gets home, he smiles at the boys and tells him that everything's fine. one of the kids peaks in on him getting undressed for dinner, and they see him taking his hand gun out of the holster like it weighs 1000000 pounds. he comes down for a late dinner, and they try to have some family time when a call comes in. The call is obviously serious nature, and Hanks and the wife are concerned, but still try to put on a brave face. Lots of mumbling about something going down, how many guys etcetera. Wouldn't his ride picks him up, there's definitely a Grimm air, and the guy driving is carrying a machine gun. I could definitely see Gordon going through a similar thing with his family, as he's trying to balance a family life and keep his family from being worried about him when he has to deal with constant crime corruption and crazy is breaking out of Arkham.

Someone mentioned John Goodman as Bullock. I think he'd be good for that role, and I also think he be a good runner up for Gordon. Goodman is a great actor who's really starting to get some interesting rolls now that he's lost some weight, and got his drinking behind him.

Still on the Olyphant train for Gordon.

I can definitely see Edgerton as a young Gordon.

I think these guys are too young. I like that Tom Hanks suggestion though.

I'm seriously hoping Bullock is in this movie.

Yeah it's weird that people keep ignoring that. Pattinson is playing a Batman in his formative years, it would make no sense for "his" Gordon to be on the verge of retirement. :hehe:

Not to mention, if they plan on introducing Barbara Gordon down the road then they'd probably want Gordon to be an "age appropriate" dad. I put "age appropriate" in quotes because I know that technically men can have kids for as long as they're sexually active, but still. I for one am not keen on the idea of a 60-year-old Gordon raising a teenager. :funny:

Obviously if they have no plans to introduce Barbara in Reeves' continuity, then this issue goes away.

Nah, considering Pattinson is playing a Batman early into his career, we kinda need a Gordon that's on the younger side to match.

I'm not exactly asking that Gordon needs to be in his 60's or anything, but that doesn't mean you need to strictly adhere to the logic of a younger Batman. Start with who the character is. Gordon as a character always came off as older, if not what made him older is his world weariness. A convincing Gordon has to have the baggage of the burden of a man trying to do the right thing in Gotham. Now when talking about age, I always thought that would be somebody in their late 40's at youngest and early 50's to convey that. Anybody younger just comes off as lacking experience. And I'm not interested in a Gordon who's figuring his **** out. There's a real blue collar aspect to Gordon. I'm more interested in putting him in situations and testing those ideas about the character.

Maybe this is where it becomes subjective, but I don't see a lot of those actors conveying that. Or they don't fit that certain type for this type of character. I say I prefer Hanks because he can convey that better any of those other choices, I don't care what his age is.

There's some legitimate arguments against Hanks as Gordon, and some great alternate choices for sure. Let me just offer 2 quick rebuttals against the "He's too old" argument:

1) Tom Hanks looks great for his age, and

2) In many continuities, Barbara Gordon was adopted, and Jim has been married at least twice. Plenty of opportunities to explain why a guy in his late 50s/early 60s has a daughter who's a freshman in college

Watching What We Do In The Shadows, and just thinking Doug Jones should be in any conversation about casting for Scarecrow.

Steve Zahn for Gordon? He's already worked with Reeves.

And he's 51.

What about Dafoe? I always like seeing actors cast against type, and Oldman's time in the role proved it can be done well. Plus, it'd be neat to finally have a ginger Gordon.

No thanks, Dafoe looks like 63 going on 75.

I believe Dafoe still has an ongoing role in the Aquaman franchise?

I don’t think Dafoe would take a role in a Batman movie unless he finally got to play the Joker.
