The question is, what would it take for Spider-Man go back to Marvel?

Sony is working on a Smurfs reboot already.

That's how desperate they are.

The only way they give up Spider-man is if ASM3 grosses under 500 m and they still might try another reboot at that point.

Okay, so in order for sony to really make a profit, TASM2 has to earn about $890 million WW. Not going to happen.

Spider-man is Sony's second biggest franchise by far.

and ASM2 will be profitable eventually, it just might take dvd sales and tv rights.

They won't get away with another reboot.

You've forgotten the movie event of 2016 Sony Pictures' Barbie The Movie.

DVD sales don't really do much anymore tbh. And they have all the live-action rights so they could make a TV series I believe.

The funniest thing about TASM 2? Marvel will be making the most profit by far off the film. They get a cut of the box office, home media sales and make all the profit on the merch. And they didn't even spend a dime making it.

They have Bond too but lord knows how the revenue from that is split up (Fox seem to have DVD rights to the franchise for some reason).

Marvel could drop a nice cold $1.5 billion + 8% of the final gross of all future Spidey movies, to get him back.

I bet Sony would get greedy and demand over 2+ billion.

Disney would probably be better off waiting for Fantastic Four's offering price.

FF has alot more to offer MCU than Spider-man's world.

lol, which is probably why Disney would be in no hurry to buy Spider-man back for billions.

They'd rather bleed Sony dry by skimming the top. :jabba

Marvel take a cut of all things Spidey and it keeps their flag ship character (and he still is imho) in the public eye. They may not be in too big a hurry to get him back in the Marvel stable.

Disney no longer get a cut off the BO (got rid of it when they bought the toys). But they still get the merchandise sales.

Ah! Didn't know that.
Makes you wonder why they are so eager to fill their movies with characters if they make no money off toys.

So I guess sony will continue making one movie after another for the next 10 years or so unless one of them flops at the box office.

One way of looking at it is, all the critisism (justified or not) will force Sony to do better with the spin offs and ASM3.

That's what i'm hoping for. Marc seemed to have learnt from his mistakes in TASM and tried to improve in the next film. Hopefully, the third will be superior to this one.

How long does it take after the last Spider-man movie for the rights to revert back to Marvel?

Anyone know?
