The Amazing Spider-Man 2 The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Box Office Prediction Thread - Part 2

There's a small part of me that likes part of this film. As I said in my review, the film is a total mess and deserves every bit of negativity it's drawn, but there are a few scenes in there that really hit an emotional high that the first one never did.

Having said that, I am almost wishing for this thing to tank, if the intent is to make these villain spin offs. This is where Marvel really needs to put their foot down. Anyone with half a brain, knows that no one wants to view a Spider-man villain film without Spider-man in it.

There's not much Marvel can do about it. All they can do it watch the train wreck like the rest of us.

Might not be as much as they'd probably want.

I asked a couple of my friends if they wanted to go watch this. The majority of them said they're getting tired of Spider-Man movies.

While the others said, there's no point since he's not in The Avengers...

It still pretty much free money with the merch. The little kids still eat the Spidey gear up.

All true. My point was more about Marvel being able to dictate what Sony does with the property. Ultimately a healthy Spider-Man franchise is good for them because regardless if they have made it or not the Marvel logo is still at the beginning of the movie.

then why not just display the results? why keep in a way to make it look I can still vote?

this is a lingering problem. FIX IT MODS.

I don't belive that the movie would have been 4 hours if they didn't cut that would be like a hour and 45 minutes cut. It was probly more like 3 hours.

4 hours as a rough cut before all the major editing. Maybe they were exaggerating, who knows, but I can believe it. It might fill in all the choppy flow of the released film with all the plot threads.

This movie felt long as it. But like I said elsewhere, while it was slightly entertaining, it was also meh and boring. But, it's bit better than Spider-man 3 imo. I'm not a fan still of this reboot series.

Let's put it this way....this movie ain't epic like Captain America 2 or say Avengers is. And SONY has SM3 in 2016 and SM4 in 2018. Damn....

I got to be honest, there are things I like here as well.

I think when Garfield is in the costume, he's a really good Spider-Man. When he's out of the costume...oh boy...

I think this might be a good comparison/contrast. To me Tobey Maguire was a much better Peter Parker, but Garfield is better as an in-costume Spider-Man. Not that I think Maguire was bad in the costume, but Garfield had more energy fun, one-liners, etc. They let him have more fun as Spider-Man. But overall, I preferred Maguire's performance.

Also to the people that thought Maguire was a stalker...oh boy...look at Garfield here. Even weirder is how much Gwen likes the fact that he stalks her.

Sony still has a lot of financial problems, if it were to open up to the idea of selling the rights, how much do you think Disney would be willing to cough up? 100 mil? 500 mil? in between?

Right now, I think Disney's strategy is to let Sony go deeper in the red, and maybe eventually they will send the movie rights back without demanding too much money. I don't think Disney will make an offer, and I know for certain that there's no amount of money that will convince Sony to sell the Spider-Man rights, either.

The final numbers are not in. Spidey could exceed Cap's numbers.

I really doubt it. Captain America at least had April to itself, and has the luxury of being a quality film, whereas Spider-Man is about to stare down two potential blockbusters (Godzilla and DOFP). Not to mention, the lackluster audience perception and poor reviews has me thinking that ASM2 will probably have mediocre legs to stand on.

Oh god, not another Spidy reboot :csad:.

SONY is losing money? But it's a pretty popular brand? Or is this just the movie division(s)?

Don't forget about the Neighbors. I think that will do somewhere in the 30's opening weekend. And have legs.

Godzilla is gonna be AWESOME.

Sony is losing money from many of their other divisions, such as electronics. I think the film division is one of the few that is actually in the black, although I heard the conglomerate is writing off millions of dollars.

Disney are better off letting Sony dig themselves into a hole and getting the licence back on the cheap. That said, the only way Sony gives up the Spider-Man rights is if they crash the franchise into the ground.

Domestically, Spider-Man will probably be in the ballpark of TWS this weekend, either a little more or a little less. But I can't see it having as good as legs that TWS had.

The rise of Chinese electronic products really hurt Sony, there was chatter last year of them completely opening up certain branches to bidding.

There was a report earlier this year that Sony has a 80% chance of going bankrupt altogether in the next two years.

Big time, no. And, I think that is fair.

Getting off-topic here, but I have yet to get into the next generation of home consoles. Does this mean I should make sure I get an X-Box One instead of a PS4?

I could be wrong, and I think they are doing better now, but wasn't Sony close to bankruptcy a little while back? Like about 2 years ago? It might've been trumped up but I remember reports that were predicting potential bankruptcy for Sony.

I'm really curious how the top brass at Marvel really feel about the Sinister Six stuff. I personally can't make heads or tails of it.

PS4 is actually the biggest money maker Sony has, and a big reason for it's high numbers this quarter. You can count on them to support that as long as they possibly can.

Well Marvel doesn't get the right back if it tanks. So if your a Spider-Man fan there's no point in wishing for it to tank as nothing but bad things will come of that.

Marvels foot means nothing they can't put it down.

I agree about S6 with no Spidey but we don't know yet if that's the case.

You're other friends sound like morons.
