What huge drop do you mean for us to look at? The film has been out a week...

You didn't read anything I wrote. I said I realize the film isn't out of theaters, but it's not going to make over 100m while it's still in theaters.

they really think a sinister six and venom solo movie will do any better than these last 2 spidey films

However, you did mention the huge drop from TASM to TASM2 when - in the end - the difference will be around $30-40 million. It would be a huge drop if TASM2 was going to make below $200 M.

So a prediction. I read it, I just didn't understand what you were getting at. hence all my question marks.
I see now.

Yes, that was me misspeaking. I was looking at the current difference when I wrote that and then realized the movie was still in theaters (duh) and forgot to go back and fix it. Still, 30-40m isn't good.

I think the most disturbing thing for Sony is that there's a downward trajectory for Spider-Man movies' domestic gross, while the budget seems to be increasing instead. They're looking at diminishing returns with each passing Spider-Man movie, and neither of the two spin-off movies will fare better without Peter Parker in them.

Sony can reign in their budget. Most of the movie was filmed in New York, they can movie. Marketing absolutely can and most importantly SHOULD be scaled back. Principle actors should be up and comers on the cusp of greatness. Villains should be human based so you can achieve most of the shots in camera with CG tweaks rather than entire CG scenes i.e Shocker rather than Lizard.

I agree.

Yeah, that's what bugs me the most about this franchise. This is like the 3rd Spidey movie with a budget approaching 250 million. Even the first TASM which was supposed to keep costs down by being a reboot ended up having a gargantuan budget.

TASM2's woes are pretty much in the form that the film is a mess. Yes there's a part of me that likes what they were trying to do, but the reality is that when you sit back and look at this film, it's a freaking mess.

That's why this film underwhelmed at the B.O. not because there's no interest in the character, or because other SH films are overwhelming this one.

Very very true. Maybe there is some comparison issue but word of mouth would have killed Spidey no matter Cap's quality. I honestly warned off many friends and family and stopped them cold from paying to see ASM2. I really did hate it that much and it has nothing to do with comparing it to other films.

Wow. A once proud franchise getting its ass whipped by Zac Ephron. Lets bow our heads

Two reasons to stay away from the cinema until Godzilla. Amazing Spider-Man 2 is just an asinine mess of a movie and Seth Rogen's latest pot promotion holds no interest whatsoever.

So because you didn't enjoy ASM2 people who haven't seen it should avoid it?

How will a Sinister 6 be viable? As I don't know how that can be made on the cheap. It could have been awesome if Spidey and a couple of allies..Osborn, The Black Cat etc took them on as part of a regular Spidey film but that would hugely expensive and not the kind of risk they can take any more. And not having Spidey would probably drain most of the appeal out of it.

Obviously people make up their own minds but it's called "word of mouth" for a reason. People that know me know if I bad mouth a Marvel film it truly must be awful. Thus, they stay away.

Well it's good that your opinion is held in such high regard. Personally speaking if X:FC2 got 55% and people I spoke to said it was rubbish I would still see it for myself. The effects and 3D alone in ASM2 make the movie worth watching, hopefully people aren't sheep to purely go on WOM which has steered me wrong more than once.

WOM usually only works for me when its good wom about something i may wait to see and entices me to see it sooner or in the theater as opposed to redbox. Bad wom usually doesnt work on me since movies that do get bad wom im probably not interested in to begin with or it's something i want to see regardless like asm2.

Basically Sony have to come to terms with America being less and less interested in Spidey. They can either accept that or do something radical external to ASM to buck the trend.
I'm sure someone will chime in with 'make good movie', I thought IM3 was a disasterous movie and it made over 400m in the US.

do u mean American loves disastrous movie?

No, America loves The Avengers, as individuals and especially as a group.
And if we look at the critics' and general audience reaction, it is because they continuous put out decent product at the very least. I know you want to avoid that, but all the measurables say critics and general audiences think they make good films.

I prefer the Webb movies to all be two of the movies Marvel has produced. To be honest I think I prefer ASM2 to ALL of the movies Marvel has produced but the general audience have embraced all of these Marvel movies even the likes of IM2 and 3 and T:TDW.

More power to the general audience, but I suspect the main the reason Marvel is riding on the crest of a wave and Spidey is waning is because the Marvel movies feel new and fresh whilst Spidey feels familiar and 'been there, done that'. I await to see if people continue to come out in their droves when the recasts happen.

It isn't about what we each think. I have plenty of problems with many Marvel films. But the general audiences don't and the majority of critics don't. They like them, they think they are good.

And quality matters. Just look at TDW and TWS. Thor and Cap switched places at the box office as TWS has been seen as the superior film.

There could have been other factors involved like TDW's winter release.

I sure wish I knew what was going on in the top peoples heads at sony right now.

That didn't hurt other Winter releases. Catching Fire and Frozen were embraced by the public, and look what happened.
