SM2 took place after the first film, but yet instill, by time we got to the 3rd movie, Peter was STILL in college and in his twenties, while Tobey was in his mid thirties.

If they want to keep the actor playing Peter, past them entering their thirties, they need to progress him past college.

Tobey was only 30-31 at the time of shooting SM3. Only a year or so older than Garfield. Tobey looked young enough (despite his putting on a few pounds) and so does Garfield (I appreciate his dedication to the role by staying in shape).

He said it in an interview last week his feelings on playing Spidey in his mid thirties, beyond 4.

He stated he was "conflicted about it"

When everyone was speculating 6 movies (lol!), comparing this to the Harry Potter series, this is what I would reply with every time. Looks like I was right. Eventually he will want to move on and explore other avenues.

andrew has said loud and clear in a couple comic con interviews he thinks peter parker should be a kid, not an adult,so they shouldn't do too big of a time jump, he's saying it'd be nice if he were in 3, not 4 movies... he's clearly saying he doesn't want to do with without actually saying it. it's not a matter of him pulling off looking younger or how old rdj is, dude simply doesn't want to spend half of his professional career being in a franchise, and who can blame him. he's barely had a life since this whole thing started, and it's only been 3 years.

I wonder what the fascination is with keeping Parker a teenager though. Sure it's interesting and unique (not as much as it was in the 60's though) for a few films, but eventually we want to see the character grow and explore new territory. I'd argue that the best part of reading the 60's and 70's comics were seeing Parker and his friends growing/changing, etc...It made the character more human.

Well considering Peter will be graduating HS in TASM2, he won't stay a teenager for all of the movies.

Should I repost the interview from the last thread because I find it very fascinating? Haha

I think a good conclusion to this film universe would be seeing Peter finally marrying MJ, something we never got in Raimi's films. So maybe by the 6th or 7th film, if it lasts that long. It should end on a really good, positive note.

SM3 ended with MJ and Peter getting back together, but... then what? It was such a miserable ending, and that's why I wanted a fourth film, so the series could redeem itself.

Reposting this from the last thread.
Really cool and revealing interview with Mark Friedberg, Production Designer for TASM2.

As a designer, I steal regularly - that’s what we’re paid to do. Marc [Webb] knows a great deal about it. He had a background in it before he even did the first movie. His version of the Spider-Man world is something he invented, so there are key places and key elements along the way. Sometimes they’re quotes - times on a clock can refer to a number on a comic book.

He [Electro] was an interesting character. I think, in general, even though there’s so much digital going on, we try to make everything as practically as we can. So his costume is also born of an Oscorp issue, that the costume has to do with the fact that the people working on him had to deal with an electrical thing, so it’s supposed to be a vulcanised rubber. We didn’t want him to look as though he’d gone to the superhero costume shop, which is sometimes what it looks like. We tried to have it have a story as well as look cool and strong.

Rhino is Alexei, a Soviet. And I think one of the ideas was to contrast the futuristic titanium or polycarbonate materials of some of the other Oscorp technology, and the fact that a lot of these costumes are involved with your body - the systems of your body. I’m not just putting on armour, it’s part of my body. Rhino is kind of a throwback character, in a way, almost a period character, which isn’t meant to be a knock on Russia, but rather quoting the sort of bulky, massiveness of the Soviet Union.

(In regards to the new Spidey suit)
Yes, it is. It’s a little more like the ones in the earlier films. He has the ability to wear headphones, and he has a little more tack in his wrists than he used to have. He can do a little bit more. The funny thing is he always ends up in his garage, tinkering. He’s a science student.
:yay:

The story is mostly set in spring and summer, so we were on stage a lot through the winter, but now we’re in the nice weather, we’re outdoors on the weekends. Then there are two more stage parts of this to go. About three weeks.

Exactly. But the fact that SM3 ended that way gave me the okay for wanting a reboot. But I definitely wanna see Spidey married to MJ. Please no Mephisto stuff though. Please please please

Don't worry about Mephisto, I highly doubt we will EVER see that on the big screen. Marc Webb knows how much fans hate that storyline, and I'm sure Sony is well aware of it, too.

And in order to go to Mephisto, this series would have to last a good 7 or 8 movies or so.

:woot: That made me laugh at work and it's a slow day in the office so much appreciated...I never had a problem with the ending of Spider man 3 because to me, it was the conclusion of every major storyline that they started in spider man and it finished. They were seen together but clearly they had a lot to reconcile and deal with, even IF you take into account that Peter was possessed by an alien creature when he smacked the woman he loves...they were having communication issues before that along with both of them not really understanding what the other was going through.

As much as I don't like that movie, I think the ending of it was as real as real can be when it comes to adult relationships...it doesn't always end the way you think it will or want it to and sometimes, things are left open because the two people involved have a lot of work to do and MJ and Pete clearly had a lot to work on in their relationship before even deciding if marriage was a good idea.

I don't know if this series will end with them getting married either but that's because I have no idea how the story will unfold or what they have planned for the next two movies

I don't care for SM3 either, but there were some interesting ideas and themes in there- even if they weren't executed perfectly.

I don't mind them getting married, but we are talking a long, long time from now.

Like, he has to get over Gwen, meet MJ, find a way to love again, allow himself to get close to someone, get closer to MJ, probably have some love-triangle-ish-ness with either Felicia or Betty or someone. And finally propose.

At which point they can get married but I'd prefer a less traditional wedding. In an attempt to avoid the religious angle.

And still, it sounds scary because the haunting fate of Gwen will still be part of the series. whew. Tough stuff.

Let's assume Gwen dies in TASM2.

TASM3 - Peter is mourning the loss of Gwen. He meets MJ who becomes a friend and helps him through it.
TASM4 - Peter starts to have feelings for MJ, but cannot decide if its too soon to date her. They kiss, but he feels he is making a mistake.
TASM5 - Peter realizes he has fallen in love with MJ, and they start dating.
TASM6 - Time jump: Peter has been dating MJ for a while now, and by the end of the film, he proposes.
TASM7 - The Wedding.

Sounds like a plan

So, you want three movies about Peter crying about MJ. Jesus, I hope it doesn't work as you say. Peter can start dating MJ at the end of TASM 3 and it would be fine.

If Gwen dies in TASM3 instead, then he could still be friends with MJ as well in that film.

What? Peter would only mourn in TASM3. The next couple of movies would develop their relationship.

From your words...

TASM3 - Peter is mourning the loss of Gwen. He meets MJ who becomes a friend and helps him through it.
Sadness about Gwen's death.
TASM4 - Peter starts to have feelings for MJ, but cannot decide if its too soon to date her. They kiss, but he feels he is making a mistake.
Sadness about "betraying" Gwen's memory by kissing MJ.
TASM5 - Peter realizes he has fallen in love with MJ, and they start dating.
Sadness about previous kiss. At the end, love and joy.

In my opinion that's too many movies to create a relationship.

Well if they do a time jump between movies then maybe. Otherwise it would be too soon.

I totally agree with Venom'sDad assertion on the fight scenes. ;)

I'm hoping Gwen dies in the 3rd. That way they can introduce MJ, have them all interact, and when Gwen dies towards the end of the movie, we can have a scene like this.

WhyYouMaryJanePart2B.jpg

However, In the film after Gwen's death, Peter and MJ should only be friends. Maybe hint at an attraction, but nothing more. Otherwise, it would feel to soon. Especially since they are building up Peter and Gwen's relationship so much.
