The Amazing Spider-Man 2 The Amazing Spider-Man 3 & 4 Set for 2016 and 2018!

To keep the rights. They don't care about anything else.

It would be just 6 years after the last reboot. They'd get even more criticism than they did with the recent reboot. They're not going to do another reboot anytime soon.

This reboot was 5 years after the last series, I don't think they'd get "more" criticism than last time.

Well, this is good for a few reasons.

- They wouldn't be doing this if they weren't confident in The Amazing Spider-man 2.
- They wouldn't be doing this unless they were confident that they could get Andrew Garfield in the suit to reprise for those two films as well.
- They aren't going to have to rush to include everything they want to include in just 3 films and they'll have 4 films to space things out (Gwen's death, Harry, Norman, Green Goblin, Mary Jane, etc).

Yes they would get more criticism because it would be the SECOND reboot.

Wow maybe they are setting up the sinister 6 story, maybe why they have already set dates for certain sequels because they already know where they are going with it

Good to know we will keep getting more movies after the 3rd, throw money at Andrew to stay, let's have the black suit story, sinister 6 ect ect, come on Sony you know you wanna

I think Sony locking the May 2018 date is a big f*** you to Marvel. At the same time, I'm glad they're locking this down for more than three movies. For too long have movies been too reliant on the trilogy format. Superhero movies should exceed that number, easily, especially Spider-Man. I'm hopeful this means we'll see Sinister Six sometime soon.

 true about the trilogy thing.
I feel like a standard for superhero movies should be 4 movies. Well for most superheroes.

I think will see first trilogy about Gwen, her death and Green Goblin wraping around entire trilogy around Oscorp and Peter's parents truth. Then will see will all villains from previous 3 movies, assembled for Sinister Six as last real challenge for Spiderman. And this means will probably see new Doc Ock, because i can't imagine anyone else leading Sinister Six then him.

I am so happy for Andrew, because this realy is his franchise as i said somewhere he is really enjoying playing Peter Parker and his life.

Didn't like the first one at all but I would be lying if I said I wasn't excited. I am sure they will get one of these right at least.

This sums up my feelings on the announcement.

just out of curiosity, does anyone know how the rights work in terms of having to make a movie every few years, does it have to be an actual spider-man movie or could they make a spin off with any of the others characters that come with the rights, to reserve the rights?

This is pretty much perfect news and just what I wanted. Hopefully if they kill Gwen they do it at the end of TASM3 - Then that's three films to get us attached but they don't end the series on a downer.

What were you asking then?
Why would they reboot when they don't have to and it doesn't make sense.

No it's not. It's pretty clear that they work with Marvel to set the date for these films. Marvel Studios moved Cap from the May slot just so TASM2 could have it. Marvel makes money off of Spider-Man movies as well you know, they don't want to cannibalize their own products.

Spider-Man should continue forever just changing the actors when they get too old to play the part. I don't want to see another reboot from Spider-Man ever again.

Anybody who's surprised by this really wasn't paying attention to Sony's modus operandi. This version of their Spidey franchise is going to go on and on unless there's some unforseen chaos that brings it to a halt, which is what happened to the Raimi franchise.

I'm glad Comic films don't go to four films because there has never been a good 4th comic book movie.
'
And until TDKR and IM3, there hadn't been even a decent "3rd movie" for the superhero genre. And even then, TDKR and IM3 gets bashed by fans.

Sony must have a plan, similar to how they planned the early James Bond films.

YAY! I'm not a fan of TASM1 and I'm not excited for TASM2 but I'm happy that we won't have to wait that long to the third/4th movie!

Did Sony even distribute James Bond back in the Cubby/Connery/Young days?

Most fizzle by 3 (mostly because huge gaps inbetween films and creative clashes) and the only series to hit 4 is Superman (Salkinds)

The cast of X-Men 1/2/3 is getting their 4th X-Men film so that counts as X-Men 4 for me.
