I wouldn't mind Andrew staying as long as they established either a soft or total reboot otherwise. I can imagine Sony pushing for him to stay, but equally blaming him rather than themselves.

These are the people that pushed Raimi out after Spider-Man 3, despite an $890 million haul.

And I certainly don't recall them clamoring to keep Tobey Maguire... the face of a multi-million dollar franchise back in 2009 either.

I know some Garfield fans can't accept this notion, but neither Spider-Man as a franchise or SONY as a studio truly need him moving forward. It'll be all business, but he could be thrown to the curb as quickly as Maguire was.

Unless Sony continues with TASM series, Andrew's gotta go. Marvel has made it pretty clear that they want him out if Spidey is to be introduced in the MCU, they want to start fresh with none of the baggage from TASM series. and frankly I don't see them changing their minds.

I could see J.K. Simmons back as JJJ again, but I think it's more important to recast a new and younger Spider-man in the MCU if it happens.

Speaking of JJJ. If Marvel do get Spidey it would be fun to see Spidey's supporting cast pop up here and there in the MCU or even Agents of SHIELD. Seeing things like JJJ berating other superheroes or as one of the talking heads when they do clips from the news would be fun I think.

If Marvel wants Spidey but doesn't want him bad enough to compromise with Sony and continue on with Garfield, then I honestly wish Sony would just have the guts to refuse to make a deal with them. :argh:

From what I remember, I don't think it would have mattered if Sony went clamoring for Tobey. He made it clear that if Sam Raimi left, he would as well.

If Sony doesn't go through with a rumored deal to Marvel and decides to push onward with ASM3, it'll be interesting to see how everything plays out. Garfield can't be looking too good for Sony right now. He bashed the studio in an interview about ASM2 and their lackadaisical production and post-production issues/faults, cancelled showing up at a Sony event, and there was one other item that I can't seem to remember at the moment.

Sony's track record of making dumb moves has been trending now for a while. Their issues are well documented. They'll fire Garfield, if they haven't already, just 'cause of business or ego. Probably ego.

I don't like you. If you were in the wild, I would attack you, even if you weren't in my food chain, I would go out of my way to attack you. If I were a lion and you were a tuna, I would swim out in the middle of the ocean and freaking eat you!

But what would you do if I were the lion and you were the tuna? :wow:

Someone's eager to see Garfield go, huh.

Harsh.

Stop that.

The thing is, they want Spidey, but they don't want Garfield and they're right! why would they want to continue another studio's franchise? they want to put their own stamp on Spidey, not re-use Sony's Spider-Man series.
remember, Marvel doesn't need Spidey, they want him, but they don't need him.

I've yet to see Life of Pi, but something like this is what I choose to believe to have happened based on the trailers I saw. :o

Yeah, but that's exactly my point. Sony's got something that Marvel wants, they should be using that to their advantage as much as they can and not let Marvel dictate what happens to their characters. If Marvel really wanted to use the character bad enough, then they'd eventually agree to some kind of deal and if not (because like you said, they don't NEED Spidey), oh well, there's still plenty of money to be made by Sony if they continue with their own franchise as long as they lower their expectations of how much money the movies will make. I know Amy Pascal is still big on Andrew Garfield so I'm only hoping she's got some kind of say in everything.

Amy Pascal's lucky to still have her job, her contract is up after this year, and most of the other executives were wanting to recast even if they rebooted on their own.

Just sayin'.

That's the point... if they even treated Raimi with some respect, I'm sure he would have stayed on as a producer and, in turn, he would've coaxed Maguire back into the suit.

They threw everything out the window far too quickly. They wouldn't hesitate to do the same again with TASM.

Nope... I like him as an actor and as a person. Just pointing out a potentially very logical reality.

Yeah. I wouldn't hold my breath for Pascal. Between Sony Japan being miffed about Sony's handling of the Spider-man/Marvel deal so far and her getting flack for racist e-mails I doubt she'll be there much longer.

Here's the thing tho, why would Marvel agree to deal that favors Sony? putting Garfield in Civil War (or any Marvel movie) would basically be one big giant advertisement for TASM3/TASM4! Marvel wants full creative over Spidey, and let's face it, they'd do a much better job with him than Sony ever could. (He's THEIR character after all, but that's not the point). Amy Pascal was actually willing to axe Garfield and reboot Spidey again! Sony was willing to play ball, but they wanted too much control over Spider-Man, Sony has shown that they don't know how to handle the Spider-Man character! TASM2 was **** to most people. Spidey was created by Marvel, he belongs at Marvel, but we know that's not going to happen, so the best thing we can hope for is that Marvel and Sony reach an agreement on Spider-Man, with Marvel in creative control.

Amy Pascal is going to be out next year and if Sony doesn't reach an agreement with Marvel, they'll probably reboot themselves and adapt Kraven's Last Hunt.
Spidey might be getting rebooted regardless.

Well, that escalated quickly.

I don't understand hostility towards other people for liking something they don't. I would greatly prefer Marvel to make their Spider-Man movies than see the ASM series continue, but I also remember that there are people that love the franchise and are crushed to see it end. So, remember to have some empathy, people.

This is hilarious.:woot:

As is this response. :woot:

Yep. Exactly.

Sony hasn't a clue. They don't know how to fix what they've broken and so they'll most likely just throw everything out all over again. They'll probably site some stupid reasoning yet again about how Peter needs to be even younger this time and he'll stay in HS for two full films this reboot. By the same token, it's a tough situation that Sony has cornered themselves. I'm not at all excited for their proposed spin-offs, let alone ASM3. And if Sony did somehow manage to try and start fresh once more, I just don't see how I could get behind that and support it. It's disheartening to think how sour everything has turned.
