Homecoming The Amazing Spider-Man 3 General Discussion - Part 10

I've never really laughed out loud at a spiderman joke though.

Laundry sheriff and "huuhhhh" made me chuckle a bit. I can't recall laughing during raimi's films but I've watched them so many times that I know what they're going to say before they say it, so I might have when I first saw it.

In general spiderman movies make me chuckle on the inside.

"Hey you guys, no playing in the streets. See ya"
"Pulling the plug"
"Hand her over. Easy now"
"HANG ON!!!!"
"There you go. We sure should showed him"
"Surprise. As soon as you get free..."
"Shut it down, Ock. You're going to hurt a lot more people this time"
"Well I'm not"

Seriously? Fantastic dialogue there, I really can't tell the difference between the Spider-Man on the comic page and these scintillating quips. Maguire absolutely SUCKED as Spider-Man, hence why the mask kept coming off so it was Peter verbalising the words not Spider-Man.

There is an argument that Maguire as Spider-Man can only say the lines he is given, but boy the way he delivers the lines is in the same whiney voice he uses as Peter Parker.

I feel people are defending the indefensible, Maguire was NOTHING like Spider-Man from the comics, why are people even arguing this point? You can argue neither was Garfield but he was a 'HELL' of a lot closer to Spidey from that comic page than Maguire. It is the lines and it is the delivery. Spider-Man in the Raimi comics isn't a character, he is just someone who shows up to throw a punch. A bit of a problem when the movies are called 'Spider-Man'.

Deflector shields. Problem? What problem?

That's all I'm reading from certain posters right now. It's easy to recognize deflections because just about everyone (myself included) on Hype has done what certain posters are doing right now.

Whatever, everyone is entitled to their opinion and in my humble opinion Maguire sucked as Spider-Man.

Oh man neil, I like you but I think you're wrong on this occasion. All you said in your last post was that Tobey only had 3 lines of dialogue. Jokers just pointing out that he spoke more than that.

Also, about delivery, that's closer to objective so let's listen to his inflection

Firstly his "great power" monologue from spiderman 1

[YT]http://youtu.be/IKmQW7JTb6s[/YT]

Then "it's you who's out Gobby"

[YT]http://youtu.be/7GAXZDl0WKA[/YT]

I'd say you're right in saying they're similar in this case but that's more because Toby is speaking there. I'll grab some TASM2 ones in a second

I'll defend Maguire to an extent, because he came up with the best line in SM3: Guess you haven't heard, I'm the sheriff in these parts.

Or something like that. ASM Spidey still wins hands down.

Spider-Man is way less funny in movies than in comics/cartoons.That's a fact and I blame Sony. He needs to trash-talk his villains more.

Okay, so Spider-Man (in the Raimi) has more than 3 lines. Very unforgettable lines because of the delivery more than anything else. When you were reading the comics, was it Maguire's voice you heard in your head? Is it CLOSE to being the voice and cadence you imagined? Anyway, I'm done.

You hit the nail on the head there, don't know what it is about movies that makes it hard

Hopefully if marvel gets Spidey they can capture his humour. They do humour well, so I'm hopeful

Ah changing argument tactics now since your original argument has just been factually disproven. Classic tactic to attempt to wriggle out of a corner you backed yourself into.

You were not talking quips. You were talking some false rubbish about him only having about three lines of dialogue in the whole movie. You were proven wrong. Now you're attempting to change the discussion into a quippage one. Ok I'll play along with that. Yeah Garfield's Spider-Man said more quips, no denying it, but the bulk of them were woefully bad and cringe worthy. That makes him sound like an idiot.

I would take any of that dialogue in SM-2 over the cringe worthy 'quips' like "Laundry Sheriff", "A god named sparkles", "You've been a baaaaaad Lizard" etc. You could find better one liners on the back of a cereal box.

Even the 60's Spider-Man cartoon had better quality quips than that kindergarten dialogue.

There is an argument that Maguire as Spider-Man can only say the lines he is given, but boy the way he delivers the lines is in the same whiney voice he uses as Peter Parker.

This is really funny coming from someone who has to change his argument stance because he was proven wrong to begin with. Defending the indefensible.....pot meet kettle - you're black.

I think Maguire's Peter and Spider-Man was much better and more likable than Garfield's. One of many reasons why his movies are more popular, successful, and well received. A sucky leading hero that the movies revolve around so much just doesn't reach the heights of success and acclaim Raimi's movies have. That would turn audiences and critics away. Whereas TASM is as good as it got for Garfield, and even that one didn't come close to Raimi's first two movies. I can't imagine why since Garfield's Peter had more quips, which is clearly the main line of 'defense' for him supposedly being better and closer to the comic book :shr:

You've really latched on to my '3 lines remark', let it go, Joker. I should have said 'a few lines'.

You've really latched on to my '3 lines remark', let it go, Joker.

That was your original argument, spider-neil. Not mine. If you didn't want anyone to latch onto it and challenge it then you shouldn't have said it in the first place.

I'm happy to drop it if you are. I'll willingly cop any consequences of being involved in a Raimi vs Webb argument, too, if the Mods see this.

At this point though it's not even off topic as TASM3 doesn't exist

We're basically all in one huge spiderman lounge now

Nothing wrong with latching on to and disproving falsehoods. Whichever actor one has a preference for is purely opinion based and nothing more but the 3 lines thing was a provable falsehood.

That's one of the many reasons why I want Marvel to get Spider-man back. They could do this justice.

I'm not a "give the rights back to Marvel" shill but I think Marvel would absolutely make sure that we got mostly good quips.

If there's anything Marvel could assist Sony with, it's his quips. 5 movies and we've still yet to see them shine in that department. 6th times the charm?

TASM2 may have had a lot of issues but after watching both TF and TMNT at least it's not the worst movie last year.

Whatever, everyone is entitled to their opinion and in my humble opinion Maguire sucked as Spider-Man.

He could have been a good peter parker/spider-man if the direction was different but for me he felt to much like clark kent/superman

i actually really enjoy spider-man being a smart ass and i think thats a popular trait that has become a big part of the character over the decades

I said it before and I'll say it again....

If Marvel gets Spider-man, for his costume I want the big, fat, $&@%ing Spider-man on the back.
