Back on the subject of Spider-man, I wonder if we would see any of the alternative takes they filmed but decided against? (Alt Gwen death scene for example)
I hope so, but I doubt it. :csad:

I was really hoping that they'd be included in the special features of the Blu-ray, but those along with the MJ scenes were just left out for whatever reason. Hopefully we'll get to see them someday.

So critics give a pass to some of the lower tier Marvel movies because they are part of the MCU?

If The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was made by Marvel Studios it wouldn't get all the hate it gets and would be at least 65% on RT I don't care what people say I like it better than Thor:The Dark World but I still consider it one of the weakest Spider-Man movies I think it's just slightly better than Spider-Man 3 but that's it

Honestly, I'll definitely agree that TIH, IM2 and TDW are Marvel's lower tier movies. But at worst they are average. I don't pretend to make them to be the quintessential CBM.

I would feel the same even if they weren't MCU.

I'd easily put TASM2 behind those three not because I favor Marvel but because honestly, I think it's average at best.

Very good points. People forget how unknown and almost non existent the MCU was when Iron Man 2 came out. Iron Man 3 only has a 5% higher critic rating than 2. It hardly shot up by 20% or something just because of being in the MCU.

And the popular opinion is that IM3 is better than IM2, so that rating is to be expected.

If anything, being connected to the MCU is considered a detriment by critics. They frequently complain that the films aren't allowed to breath on their own. The connected universe is a good thing for fans, but with the exceptions of Iron Man 1 (which was the first), Avengers (where the connection was a big selling point), and GotG (where the impact of the rest of the MCU is rather minimal), I think you would see a slight uptick in their RT scores if they were all independent franchises. IM2 and TFA, in particular, were heavily criticized for it.

What is TIH?

I agree. In fact I remember a few critics kind of naysaying the idea and even after the success of the Avengers, you still bump into a few.

I would not only put TASM2 behind the entire MCU to date, but I'd also put SM3 and TASM1 behind them.

You people are so desperate to defend ASM2 to speak nonsense about the MCU as always...Spider-Man is my favourite fictional character EVER,but that doesn't make ASM2 a better movie in my eyes, only WORSE. The MCU movies actually made me LOVE characters I didn't give a **** about up until a couple years ago. The general audience loves those movies, fans are mostly happy and you objectively can't say the same about a movie like ASM2.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 problem was they were setting up future movies just what Iron Man 2 did

Exactly.

This unfounded theory that the MCU is a pass to critical success makes no sense.

Me too.

Seriously, if you would have told me 10 years ago that I would admit that, I would call you crazy as I have been a comic fan and a Spidey fan for a long time.

Amazing Spider-man #121 was the first comic I bought with my own allowance money (previous books were given to me by my big brother after he was done reading them), I love the ol' web head.

I collected even through that stupid "Clone saga" stuff, but "One More day" made me hop off the train.

After X-Men Last Stand and X-Men Origins people were slating Fox saying how crap they are and should be selling the rights back to Marvel but what they did they made a good movie in First Class and a Brillant movie in Days of Future Past if The Sinister is great and The Amazing Spider-Man 3 is as well people would stop slating Sony

YES! And I liked "The Wolverine".

Not really. The difference is that in IM2 it is the major problem that is a drag on the film, but in TASM2 it is only one of many problems. The biggest problem that absolutely kills TASM2 is the horrid villains straight out of a 60s cartoon and that would still be the case even if it was self-contained. There are many other issues (such as the parents plot) that hurt TASM2 as well, but that's the one that really kills it dead.

The fun thing is,I think that X3 is a better movie than ASM2. You know why? X2 was so freaking amazing(pun intended) that a third movie was almost guaranteed to be disappointing at some level, even if Singer was on board IMO.Kinda like what happened with SM3. With ASM being only average at best I was expecting ASM2 to blow it out of the water but it just...blew. THIS is the truly sad thing.

EXACTLY! It only took one film to completely get the fans back on Fox's good side. The same thing can happen with Sony, people are too quick to give up on them.
