And that's the situation that we will likely see. Having a potential love interest is one thing which is acceptable, dating someone is another. After such tragedy, I don't see Peter getting interest to involve romantically with someone any time soon.

He doesn't need to be interested. Why it can't be the other way around? MJ or whoever that is gets interested on Peter while he doesn't. The director even said that the next movie will focus on Peter's recovery and if he can love again. So dating MJ on the sequel is clearly unlikely when we actually don't need to see another romance again for a while. Save it for ASM4 if it happens.
Well MJ can start off as a pal to make their relationship more compelling. Maybe it can draw hints to her finding out he's spiderman.

You mean a romance that nobody is actually expecting any time soon? It don't need to be rushed straight to ASM3. In fact,Peter dating someone in the sequel wouldn't look naturally, even some not hardcore fans that I know don't want to see that.

What do you mean nobody? I think most people are expecting him to hook up with MJ. What better way to deal with Gwen's death than having someone helping him cope with the guilt and showing him that he can be happy again... and 4 years after the death, no less.

Yeah, you know I wonder if the movie will take place in 4 years because I do love it if spiderman does show up in the sinister six since the reason the team formed was because of him even stated in this film. Heck, garfield is hitting 34 so it would be a perfect time to maybe have him as a senior or something

And she will. My point is that the romance is not needed in ASM3 and that them could slowly get to know each other but never actually engaging in any romantic situations until at least the ending.

Are we sure that the movie will have a four year gap?

Technically 3 years till they start filming and 4 years till its release

As for in the film... There will likely be a big gap inbetween movies but dunno if I can see them going as far as 3-4 years personally, they will likely try and keep it tighter then that, the sinister 6 presumably won't be years after TASM2 and will have to happen at some point and then connect quickly to TASM3 for it to be effective

Well I always said Sony are too afraid to try something new so having no love interest would be a start. Hell if Sony was like Marvel(gutsy) we'd be having Shattered Dimensions(-like) stories for the next movie.

That's true, it likely won't be a 4 year gap within the story. It will be a 4-year wait for the audience, though. Say TASM4 actually does happen and it's (at least) 2 years after TASM3. Six whole years just to see Peter happy again with another girl? Seems a little long.

In regards to the line, "Face it tiger, you just hit the jackpot!":

I have mixed feelings whether or not today's general audience would be okay with that. I loved it in the comics, and us fans would certainly like to hear it, but I don't know if it'll work the way it does on paper. I believe some people will think of it as too open or direct, especially if those are MJ's first words to Peter.

Also, I'm saying this in the context of how people generally speak today. Personally, I don't have a single problem with a woman using those words; nor would I think less of one.

Indeed. I wouldn't be comfortable with MJ first appearing in the door saying that line.

The relationship should be built up naturally

Didnt shailene woodley say she delivered the jackpot line in a scene that were cut? I swear she did

As for she should knock at his door to say it... Not everything has to done like the comics

If the movie really focus on his recovery then there won't be such long gap, it will also feel weird to the general audience to see Peter engaging with someone romantically that early after Gwen's death IMO.

My thoughts exactly.

I don't see today's audience being that much different than the one when Spectacular Spider-Man aired. The scene was well received if I remember correctly. It's when that one panel is posted without context that people miss she's playfully responding to Peter's shock.

However, I don't think it's necessary and don't trust this creative team to translate it properly.

I understand what you're saying, but the audience for a film series compared to the TV series reaches far more people.

The only people who will understand the context of her saying that are, again, fans like us who have an understanding of MJ as a character. She's known to be playful and flirtatious at times, but I can see most of the general audience taking it the wrong way.

I can already see Sony butchering it. I would much rather have Marvel be responsible for delivering that line in a movie for the first time.

Well, of course you wouldn't if that line was directed at you. Unless you are a girl... in that case... well, you can still like women if you are a woman... if you know what i mean... and there's nothing wrong with that by the way... maybe i should stop speaking... or typing...

Hey, what if MJ was a lesbian?

I don't see what's so complicated about delivering such simple line...

It's not the delivery of the line that takes skill, it's working it into the narrative. It's the difference between a great introduction and an Easter egg only comic fans would get. Webb's team have done much more of the later than the former.

I believe it's how the line would be translated into film in terms of execution. Again, I do t care about the line I just care about the development between the characters. That's it.

Hey, what if MJ was a lesbian?

I don't even know how to respond to this :funny:

But no, I wouldn't think any different if a girl was saying that to me, either. I actually don't even know what I would think of it, since I am neither a sane human or a tiger that hits the jackpot.

If MJ is already kinda set up and is to pop out of nowhere on Peter's door, there isn't that much to elaborate since the comics went that way. It's not a great introduction either way IMO. I preferred they actually meeting somewhere else like a coffee shop than Peter's porch lol.

Honestly, if they've somewhat built up a friendship of some sort after being acquainted with each other, then I don't mind them using the line.

It's just the jumpiness of those being the first words MJ says to Peter that I have a problem with, in the context of how people speak today.

Then you remember that's the first line she ever said to Peter in the comics :barf:

If it works that way,I'm sure that the movie will be very fuuuuuuuuunnnn.

But...I didn't have a problem with it in the comics, and I don't have a problem with it now.

My whole point is that the general audience will, since they have no idea of who MJ is the way you and I do.
