Lol, I meant the sequels to the Playstation video games guys. We did get Goblin in SM3. :oldrazz:

Lol. No worries.

I think he was referring the game series, a sequel to Enter: Electro featuring Green Goblin. Hobgoblin would of been nice too, I liked the reference in the first Spidey game.

Yeah. Just saw his reply. Wouldn't mind seeing Hobgoblin either. Or a fight with the Beetle (which seemed like an odd inclusion then).

If Venom is ever used again, how would you guys want him to look?

Similar to SM3's Venom. Built, bigger than Spider-Man, but not that extreme lengths that the comics use him to. Oh, and use his classic suit. I loved the warped Spider-Man costume Raimi gave him, but this time we can use the classic look.

That hack needs to stop interfering with Spider-Man movies. All they had to do was introduce the symbiote costume in SM3 and tease Venom for the sequel. SM4 could have used Venom as the main villain and utilized him well. Oh well... what could have been.

If Raimi had been left alone, I can assure you we would never see nor hear of the symbiotes in any SM film ever, he was a pure 60s / Silver age fan, through and through.

Honestly I don't get why everyone's hating on Venom on here besides the notion that he's "too mainstream". Honestly Venom brings a lot more to the table than fan favorite Mysterio does.

Honestly, think like a writer and tell me- what does Mysterio represent thematically? How does he make Peter Parker grow as a character?

Venom is a man who's life was destroyed by Spider-Man, who wears the costume rejected and discarded by Peter Parker. He represents the demons he's created, the failures of his past, and the irresponsible choices he's made. He's a shadow that looms over Peter Parker and like any other personal baggage, he inhibits Peter from functioning until he is dealt with.

Mysterio on the other hand is a former stunt worker who uses illusions and tricks to commit crimes. Certainly there is something to be said about society due to his motivations coming from his attractive face keeping him from becoming a star himself, but he- as he is written doesn't do much to make Peter grow as a person or mirror him thematically at all.

I'm not saying I want Venom in the next film, but there's a reason the big three are Goblin, Ock, and Venom! So everyone needs to get off their high horse and stop trying to act like Venom isn't a good character.

But Spider-Man did not ruin Venom's life. He never feels he is to blame for what happened to Eddie Brock in comic books, so there is no baggage for him to carry. There is no guilt. I have never read any story where Peter feels to blame for what happened to Eddie. Not seen it in cartoons either. Or movie.

Remember how 90's TAS wrote Mysterio as a special fx man who made a dangerous special effect and Spider-Man caught him and captured him, and he went to prison. Then when he was released he became Mysterio and framed Spider-Man as a criminal.

That is better revenge story and motive than Venom's. Venom is bad character with no good reason to be Spider-Man's enemy. Peter did not hurt Brock's life.

If Avi or Sony really wanted Venom to appear in the franchise, they should have just let Sam Raimi finish off with SM3 and let him do his own thing. At most make him introduce the symbiote or make some references to it. Then they could have gotten a new director for SM4 to pick up after Raimi and do Venom.

One other thing I absolutely loved about Venom in SM3 is that the story comes full circle. Spider-Man is fighting his demons the whole movie, and towards the finale, he fights the literal and physical form of all of his wrongdoings / demons. Symbolism :hrt:

We've had the Joker as Joe Chill. I think enough people would have gotten over it.

I still loathe it. Even Sam Hamm, who wrote the Batman '89 story, disses it. It was put in by Burton during the writers strike.

I think fans are over it now because of Ledger's Joker, and the whole TDK trilogy righting a lot of the mistakes of the older Batman movies.

Wasn't it originally planned to be a sextet of films though? I remember reading it somewhere, but that was waaaaaaay back when.

Hmm, I'm not sure. I know after Spider-Man 3, Sony announced that they would be producing another three Spider-Man films. Not sure if that was the plan from the get-go or a last minute decision. Obviously that didn't go anywhere lol.

It's literally 2009 all over again.
Oh gosh you're right. What's funny is that Sony went pretty far into pre-production for Spider-Man 4. At the same time, they were also planning out the reboot even before SM4 was cancelled.

Now they are working on the Sinister Six and already discussing plans with Marvel to reboot again. History repeats itself with Sony, doesn't it?

Yep, they were on a break to fix the script for SM4, and I think it was the 10th(?) of January we got the reboot announcement. You just can't teach an old dog new tricks.

You know how Jon Schnepp is making a documentary called "The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened?" Someone should make one about the Spider-Man Sony franchise and discuss the studio acquiring the film rights after years of legal limbo, failing with SM3 and the reboot, and (hopefully) losing the rights and giving them back to Marvel.

I would certainly love to know wtf is going through their heads now, in 2009, 2007, and in 2012.

Based on what we know from the leaked e-mails, it seems like the studio literally has no idea of what to do with any of their movies.

Any recommendation on where to begin with Agent Venom? I always wanted to get into that character but I'm not sure of which comics to pick up.

I'd say start with Venom (2011) #1-22, the whole Project Rebirth 2.0 Storyline, if your into long-term or binge reading.

In 2012 they were thinking "Look at the success of Nolan's Batman movies. Lets make Spider-Man more gritty like them".

In 2014 they were thinking "Oh no wait look at the success of The Avengers. Lets lighten Spider-Man up and cram in loads of characters to make an expansive universe".

Now they're thinking....."We're in the crap".

Cool, thanks for the suggestion! I'll be on the look out for those issues.

And look at how successful they were! lol

My advice to any studio is: Do. Not. Hire. The. Transformers 2. Writers.

Now they're thinking....."We're in the crap".

Probably the smartest thing they ever said.

Nailed it!
