I think he's certainly one of the best Spider-Man villains, though I wouldn't call him the "greatest." All a matter of taste though.

I don't get it. Why is Venom considered by some to be Spider-Man's greatest enemy? He looks cool and has cool powers but there are villains who are so much better.
I'll answer this! Venom pushed spidey to paranio and made him flee for his life at one point. He didn't just attack spiderman he attacked loved ones and made it a point to do so. He knew everything about spiderman and was stronger so spidey sought help from ff cause he didn't know how to handle him. Venom couldn't even trigger his spidey sense so spidey was more on edge not to mention he shape shifted.
Green goblin was a more arch nemesis but venom was the ultimate challenge for spidey. He knew everything about him and instead of fighting him directly he played with his mind and toyed with him and would ambush him from out of nowhere. Perfect movie villian if adapted properly.
I'm really tired of people trying to say this guy has always been a cool confident guy in the comics.

Also that this guy:

How are moments from his early days (pre-bite no less) any proof of his current personality? What confuses me the most is how many Spidey fans still uphold the belief that the man who has had multiple lovers (one who is a supermodel mind you) would still carry the look and attributes of a basement dweller.

Garfield's Peter WAS too cocky. He quickly went from loser to popular kid in the blink of an eye. And you'd think after how he humiliated Flash, people would consider him a jerk. But no, a kid who humiliates people is a cool kid I guess. Also, he came across more as a skateboarder dude then a nerd.
OMG he damaged school property? that totally ruins the name of peter parker
its pretty obviously it was attempting to show his cockyness after getting his powers which is a faithful plot element from the source material even if it wasn't a direct adaption of the events
as for saying about peter standing up to flash... its not like he decided to start a fight with him, in the end he was trying to help another kid and took a hit from flash for it
i think had peter not stood up to flash there would be people saying oh peter just let that kid get bullied
I think I'm the only person who prefers both ASM 1 & 2 over every single movie Marvel has put out, lol.
I think the fatal error some fans make about garfields portrayal is that they look at the ditko era for comparison, but really a nerd is not the same as it was in the 70's. Most nerds I know are really good with women haha The focus on this version is that he's an outsider. Most people think peter parker should be like this hideous dork, but really when you look at the comics the dude is swimming in women lol
I think the cockiness was justified in a modern context
1. he's a teen with SUPER POWERS
2. He's got a hot girlfriend
3.extremely famous (as spider-man)
Most young people ARE self absorbed and feel invincible (until after college) haha and with him being bullied it was because of his intellect, and it was by one person in particular (FLASH) other than that he was just an outsider that was in his own world.
I liked the scene in TASM when he stuck up for the kid being bullied by flash before he got his powers, it gave this version more of a backbone and showed the "fight for the underdog" quality that spidey possesses.
If you look at the last 2 TASM movies it shows that he's still BECOMING spider-man, which is gradual.
In TASM he was so hellbent on finding his uncles killer that he didn't realize he could help others until about halfway through lol
By TASM 3 he should be the spider-man we all know in love, having experienced losing a loved one and taking his crimefighting seriously. Even though they dropped the ball on Tasm2, the franchise is not beyond repair, and garfield should be given some closure.
For me, this is the bottom line, I want;
1. A movie that is self contained.
Enough of set up, I'm sick of that now.
2. Sophisticated story telling.
I want a serious and complex movie that 'happens' to star Spider-Man.
3. Complex characters.
I want a character driven movie with characters that move scene to scene based on their actions and the actions of others rather than because the PLOT tells them to be in a location.
That's what I want and I don't give a **** if Sony, Marvel or anyone else delivers that. What I will say is, look at Marvel's track record and how often they have delivered the above;
IM - yes
TIH - no
Thor - no
CA - no
IM2 - no
Avengers - no
IM3 - no
Thor 2 - no
WS - yes
GotG - no
Basically, from Marvel I am far more likely to see a fun, throwaway, popcorn movie than a nuanced movie with sophisticated story telling.
I think I am far more likely to get what I want if Spider-Man stays where he is and an A list director is hired and the current producers are sacked.
Spider-Man interacting with Iron Man would be cool, Spider-Man that is hailed in the same breath as the Dark Knight is far better, at least for me.
I was an extra in a movie once a few years back (well, actually I didn't end up getting into the scene but I was still there for 8 or 9 hours, costumed and paid so XD) and $148 sounds like about what I got. It was in that ballpark.
You can reply to more than one post at once sm2
Do you know how?
Really? and man things are going fast with all the rumors lol.
I think I have seen just has many people say that he was confident and people say that he was not always a nerd and I think Garfield came off to cool and toeby to nerdy need a middle ground between Garfield and tobey peter but garfields sm is perfect!

I was just wondering how standing up to help someone being bullied was one of your reasons for him being "unlikable". Seems like the definition of likable to me.What what?

Yeah, SWH said that they're legit, had one for TASM2 as well.
Some media outlet would have debunked it by now if it wasn't at least slightly legitimate
