Sony did announce that they were shifting the focus of SPE (Sony Pictures Entertainment) from film to television.

Smart move, they produce some of my favorite shows! And would the marvel deal line up with that plan? If they wanna go smaller in their film department, they should go into coproductions with marvel for the spiderman films

This new info seems to point to that.

I would think that the Marvel deal could line up with Sony's plan to focus on television. They were planned on separate occasions it seems but everything kind of falls into place if you think about it.

Marvel should produce the Spider-Man films while Sony distributes. Can't get any better than that.

Spider-Man every week on TV would be awesome.
My favourite show at the moment is Flash but Spider-Man would jump to the top of my list. Also, Sony's SSM was nothing short of a masterpiece.

I couldn't get through the first 5 minutes of SSM

Spidery's voice is too grating for me. 90's and earlier are where it's at for spidey cartoons

I liked the 90's show, but Peter was so weak in it... he was always beaten. He also nearly never landed a punch. It was the adventures of batman and robin all over again.

SSm is the best animated rendition of the character. Does everything nicely Soy should bring the show back and cancel that ultimate disgrace they have on disney.

Marvel - USM
Sony - SSM

hmmm...

He looked so weak because Spidey was not allowed to punch people due to heavy censorship.

SSM crushes 90's. The plots, character development and over arcing theme and most importantly action were MUCH better than the 90's animated.

I know. It doesn't make the show any better though. Batman didn't punch people in the animated series either, and it was still an amazing show, and the dark knight never looked weak in it.

My ranking of Spidey animated shows is sort of unusual.

1. SSM
2. Spider-Man: The New Animated Series -- I really liked this series. Neal as Spidey? Check. For its time, great visuals? Check. Awesome Fight Scenes? Check. Only Animated Series to feature really brutal and bloody battles? Check. Good supporting characters? Check. Honestly, I had hoped for this show to last a really long time.
3. Spider-Man: The Animated Series -- Watched this a lot during childhood. I don't know, I cannnot really see Peter Parker as this fat/Super-manesque muscular guy.
4. USM -- Watched the first ep and judging from some reviews, it has not changed.

1. SSM
2. Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends
3. 90's
4. MTV
5. 60's
6. 80's
7. Ultimate

8. Unlimited

SSM is overrated :o

Still great tho

Overrated in the sense that it's the best Spidey cartoon, because I don't see any other show beating it to that title. Maybe animation wise, but not in writing.

Yo, I'm confused.. Spider-neil do you want Spidey to return back to Marvel?

Also USM might be an abomination, but it has nothing to do with Marvel studios.

I'll have to agree with this, solid show. Sony IS capable of quality Spider-Man.

The character development was awesome. Peter Parker's world was as interesting as Spider-Man's. I could quite happily have watched an entire episode that featured no Peter Parker because the supporting characters were so compelling.

Any quality that came from Sony Spider-Man products came from the people they hired, namely Greg Weissman, and in the movie's case Sam Raimi. When Sony puts their oar in about creative decisions things turn crap.
