The Amazing Spider-Man The Amazing Spider-Man General Discussion & Speculation Thread - Part 1

I just assumed that was your reasoning because the only changes the Lizard has compared to his comic counterpart is no clothes and a short snout. Literally nothing else is different. That's why I assumed you wanted a more detailed or complex look because it doesn't look at all like a TV 80s movie.

Every problem you have with the design is obviously because you don't like the Lizard in general. What would have made this design better? Nothing. Maybe the snout and clothes but then you have the Lizard from the comics verbatim. I don't understand what you don't like about the look...

Those are fair questions. Sure. I'll be happy to answer those. But first let me say if you like him, that's great. I'm not here to criticize you if your opinion differs from mine. If that Lizard works for you, I hope the film delivers what your wanting. I don't care for him because there is too much of the actor in his appearance. So much so that the essence of what makes the Lizard interesting (for me) is lost here. It's an ego driven look made to showcase WHO the actor is rather than celebrating the villain which I have enjoyed in the Spiderman mythos. Kind of like what they did in Spiderman 3, where you see Spiderman unmasked at every turn so we don't "forget" that it's TOBEY MAGUIRE! It appears that same philosophy is being pursued in this entry as well. I want to see hero against villain. Not actor against actor. So that is at the heart of my problems here. Length of snout, clothes or no clothes, etc., is irrelevant to me. It's the fact you have the guys face pouring right out of what otherwise could have been a very cool villain.

I still think he's the one that says the "Ready to play God?" line.

That's his only role?

Spidey:"Doctor Connors! I can help you!"
*Dr. Rafta appears*
Rafta:"Ready to play God?"
Spidey:"..."

Peter:"So...do you wanna...maybe...go out...sometime?...With me?"
Gwen:"Sure. That-"
*Dr. Rafta appears*
Rafta:"Ready to play God?"

:funny:

Ohhhh! OK, yeah. That makes a lot of sense. I'm glad we figured that out. Haha. See, the thing with seeing the actor in the Lizard's face is okay with me only with the Lizard. The Lizard's an interesting villain because the entire time you're supposed to feel bad for Connors even when he's 9ft tall, green and scaly. Seeing the actor's face in the monster hits that point even harder that he's not supposed to be that way. That's why I'm okay with it.

Plus, I think it looks nice either way, haha.

Need some breaking news

leh lizards got da po-po on hiz sid!!!111!

Definitely agree with this. Also for those brief seconds where Spidey does get through to him and we see that inner conflict within him and the monster winning out. I just don't think that could have been easily achieved otherwise. I want to see some evidence of Connors within the monster at times. Not forget that within the monster is the man.

It sounds like they want Lizard in a sequel, while killing Connors.Where we can have Kraven & Lizard, where Kraven isn't hunting one Lizard, but a bunch of them.More than one Lizard would let us see Kraven actually kill them.

Instead of one good guy turned into a monster who spidey is trying to cure,we would see a bunch of them.

Did we even have any hints of Kraven?

To me Lizard creating Lizard men has always been another giant part of his mythos. Or at least to me since I grew up on S:TAS. I don't see it as something created to include him in sequels or other Lizards, rather just staying true to the mythos. I might be wrong in this and just inherently see it as a central core of his goals as to the cartoon, but that's all I think it is.

I agree with Socool that it's Dr. Ratha's doing... I think that he's tasked to refine the Lizard formula (as a protoype to the strength formula that will become the Goblin formula) but doesn't succeed and ends up with more lizardmen. Creating more guilt for Connors if/when he turns back because his formula was turned into a weapon that's ruined more lives. As to how the SWAT team gets infected? Not a clue. But I'm willing to bet the fact they're in the OsCorp set is a clue.

No one has said that that's the Lizard's goal, or has said what his goal even is. It's not about transforming humanity, but about getting the upper hand against Spidey.

Perhaps they serve as test subjects? Connors realizes that his lizard serum could turn him into a completely feral, mindless beast. Hence he kidnaps these guys to test the serum, creating these lizard men, in his attempts to further refine it.

Climp? dude! I haven't talked to you in forever!

My theory is the SWAT team comes across Connors' sewer laboratory and somehow they're accidentally exposed to whatever turns Connors into the Lizard.

I recall that there was a scene in the SDCC footage where Doc Connors looked himself when he was half transformed and said something like "I'm different... I'm beautiful", so it just came to my mind that the motivation to why he is doing this might end up being pretty twisted and dark, which would be great imo

The idea of having a SWAT lizard escape and come into contact with Kraven in a future installment...

LAME.

If Connors dies, then the SWAT lizard men need to be cured with no more members showing up in future sequels.

Maybe the swat guys become lizards after the Lizard bites them.

Maybe that's how the Lizard would transform all humans,by an infection from a bite.

I just hope I see some Spider-Man / Lizard scaling city skyscraper fighting, that's what we need brothas.

Well, they DO fight on top of Oscorp and there IS a chase scene between Lizard and Spidey where the Lizard is running up buildings, so I'm pretty sure that's a yes.

However way Lizard turns the SWAT members, I don't want a SWAT lizardman to escape and show up in a sequel. That's just way too silly and makes emo Peter a work of art.

I'm fine with the idea for now, but if Lizard dies or is cured, then it needs to be the end of the lizardmen as well.

You're right. He's more like a werewolf. :o

In all seriousness, I wouldn't rule out the bite thing.

Werewolves bite as well, lol.
