Yep :awesome: man, I remember when I was speculating about Spider-man 4 with my friend just after seeing Spider-man 3, and it feels like that was so long ago... seeing Spidey again finally is going to feel EPIC
I didn't see the other movies in theaters [cause I wasn't a Spider-Man fan back then] so this'll be the first time I get to see Spidey on the big screen, which is going to be so awesome!

I like the idea of the SWAT Lizard men but like so many other things it all comes down to how it's done/presented. You can take an idea like that and make it absolutely rock or it can so easily go the other way and turn into a huge pile of steaming hot mess. That's where Webb comes in...his talents as a director will make or break something like this.

I've been saying this all along.

It'll either be done very well, and won't suck... or it will. That's it.

I've got faith in Marc, so I'm sure this won't be a bad thing. :)

160 million pounds? If that is true then this could easily be the Green Lantern of 2012. Poor advertising combined with a lot of resistance from moviegoers combined with a huge budget means this could be a potential disaster.

How is Sony Pictures being this irresponsible with the future of the entire studio in doubt?

the crucial difference is WB rushed the trailer and the effects were awful (AWFUL!) I remember the green lantern fans saying the trailer was a good one and people understand the concept of unfinished CG, whilst sony are taking their time.

1. the trailer was terrible
this have nothing to do with me being baised because I'm a marvel fan.
it looked like rushed, pandering, unfinished MESS.
who was the trailer aimed at fans? no offence but who cares about the fans they are going to see the movie regardless, the trailer has to hook the general audience.

2. the CG was terrible and unfinished
people don't look at unfinished cg and think 'oh, that will look better in the final movie' no, they simply say that looks rubbish.
if the effects aren't finished or look bad DON'T release the trailer, it's suicide and what do you actually gain.

in the grand scheme of things does it really make a difference if sony release the trailer in dec (with poor cg) than jan (with good cg)?

ASM to me is nothing like green lantern that was a mess from start to finish, and that's just the marketing.

A Spider-Man movie will never fail at the box office. They could advertise the movie 2-3 months before it comes out and it'll still make more than enough to warrant a sequel.

I agree. Spidey sells. Plain and simple. He is probably the most famous Marvel character and there is literally every kind of product made with his image attached to it. Toothbrushes, towels, cups, mugs, games, toys, books, bed sheets, clothes, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. It doesn't matter what it is, people buy Spidey.

because all the money went on the film leaving no money for marketing?

web
garfield
stone
aren't going to be on big money.

250m? for what? the special effects must be the best ever. also if they have spent over a 100m for effects then they should have gone to ILM or WETA.

Have you seen my ":o" yet? If so then I wasn't being serious. :cwink:

the one problem with being a spidey fan is you are a fan of the one of the biggest superheroes on the planet (debatable who takes top spot bats or spidey) so there is media attention everywhere. there was a tv news report on spidey being black in ultimate spidey, that is how big the character is.

well, with that much media attention every iota of this movie is going to be spoiled long before the movie is released in the summer.

I had such a good experience with watching x-men: first class totally fresh as there was hardly any media interest at all.
I get the feeling when I sit down to watch the movie I'll know every plot point and will be just watching the movie to fill in the blanks.

I think it's between batman and spidey who is the biggest superhero currently.

the original spidey trilogy - 2.5 billion

the dark knight - 1 billion

I wasn't comparing Bats with Spidey. But, Yes, they are currently the two most popular.

I'm so happy you get to see Spidey on the big screen. There's nothing like it. Seeing The first Raimi Spidey on screen is one of my best memories.
One reason it was so memorable is because they showed the teaser for HULK and I was AMPED.

Spidey movie plus Hulk trailer? I was floored.

I know, I was just saying spidey argubly the biggest superhero currently but bats probably takes it (just)

arkham city
TDK

probably gives him the edge. after SM2 it was definately spidey.

SM2
Spectacular spider-man

Yeah, I think Batman is probably more popular at the moment considering there is a finale to the already successful Nolan movies coming this summer and two very good video games already out.

Love your avatar, Mary Jane Watson.

Thanks!

I think it's way too early to say that marketing has been bad. I think this month is just when marketing will begin until the film comes out.

I thought that somebody told us that December will be a great month lol. Even we got the teaser poster, video game trailer, some new pics. Imo, somehow I feel like they are not doing right? or not good enough?

great story for spider-man 1 at the movie. I live the UK and I would have had to wait one week before spidey hit the uk and no way was I going to wait, so I flew to NY to catch the premiere. the premiere was like a rock concert it was crazy, totally sold out, the only thing imho that came close as far people packing the cinema was T2.

anyway I'm watching the movie and I look over and a man and his kid (who was no more than 4) are watching the movie, well during the climax where goblin he kicking the living **** out of spidey the kid crawls into his dad's he was so scared. ha ha good times:awesome:

hard to think that when that kid watches ASM he'll be 14-15. yikes!

I think we are all a little disappointed by the lack of a new trailer but it really makes no difference...I'll be seeing the movie come July no matter what. I hope to be highly impressed and will be very happy if that is the case.

The marketing has been just fine. Would we be happier with more? Probably but we still have some time to go before the release.

The Raimi films wasn't advertised until about 4 months out and look how that fared.

Its funny to me. Spider-man and Batman will FINALLY face off in the same year to be named CBM top dog.

For years in the 9o0s, Batman was the only and the top dog. Then with B & R, it fell off.

A few years later, Spidey comes on the scene and takes over. Spidey peakes with SM2 and Batman Begins come out a year later, kinda steals the thunder.

SM3 bombs critically, TDK succeeds on all fronts.

Bats and Spidey have been going at it for years but now, in 2012, Winner take all.

I know you might want to mention The Avengers but lets face it, thats gonna be a popcorn CBM that is more for the diehard fans then the GA.

@SpideyFan866--I prefer not to think of it as a competition but rather a good hearted exchange of growth and development. There is a progression in good filmmaking between the two and I think each has benefitted from the others merits and/or lackthereof.

I didn't think batman begins was a patch on SM2.
I remember reading a review on darkhorizons and the reviewer was trying to justify why BB is better than SM2 (don't ask me why a spidey movie has anything to do with a batman review) it really did sound like he was trying to convince himself rather than the reader.

TASM is gonna be sucessful no matter what.

It has the same weekend spot TF3 had in 2011.

It has no major competition that could beat out a Spidey films for 2 and 1/2 weeks when TDKR comes out, not to mention that no other film releases the July 4th weekend, so that leaves Spidey ALL ALONE on the BIGGEST MOVIE GOING WEEKEND OF THE YEAR!

Its a Spider-Man movie. Whiny fans boys, Dedicated fanboys (like us), and little kids are gonna pack the theaters a well as the regular GA.

Its impossible for this film to not make money.

I know its tough to not say that the marketing for this film doesn't suck right now but the marketing for this film is very similar to what the marketing for TF3 was. There was few and between things and the teaser revealed very little.

There was a surge in marketing around winter and a kick-ass super bowl spot and full trailer followed.

TASM is in the same boat as TF3 also in that both of these films are coming off of a terrible previous film (SM3 and TF2 respectively) and need to do some serious redeeming.

TF3 overcame the the negativity towards it. Many said they wouldn't see it because megan fox was gone. Many said they wouldn't see it because it would simply suck compared to another movie coming out. Many critcized the choice of 3D.

Ultimately though, TF3 wowed everyone and is considered the best of the serious by many.

Oh and the little detail that it grossed over a Billion dollars in, OH, 2 and 1/2 weeks?

TASM will not be the X-Men First Class of 2012 but the TF3. It has faced some serious criticism but it will be wow everyone in the end and make lovers out of haters.
