Check out when the Lizard breaks the window in where Dr. Ratha is sitting in. He breaks through it and Ratha doesn't even flinch or blink an eye throughout the entire ordeal. Not focusing on little details like that is really a bummer especially in this day and age.

Huh?

That bridge scene was amazing and it touched me and i never felt an emotion from a movie like this

Whoever chose the music for this clip needs to be slapped....hard. It just kills the whole scene.

I thought it worked just fine for what they were showing.

But I'm sure the actual score for that scene will be more appropriate.

No -- one is saying "look we're retelling the origin story but it's a new take and a new direction" the other is saying "an untold story" as if Raimi MISSED something or CHOSE NOT TO TELL a part of Spidey's story.

For general audiences, it's incredibly confusing -- which is why awareness is so low. I was speaking to a studio exec the other day who was saying that their marketing team really has NO CLUE how to sell it.

You sell it as a new take, a new vision, and a new version. Meet Spidey Like You've Never Seen Him Before.

You focus on the fake that it IS a reboot, instead of trying to hide it or rationalize it. In Marketing, the simple nuances go miles -- and they're dropping the ball big time.

I hear people who don't know it's a reboot, people who think it's a prequel, but don't understand how it can be --

Notice how they rarely show Peter pre-bite. Notice how they sell the film like "do you want to know what you REALLY are" -- as if it's going to reveal the truth of the origin in Riami's film, but yet -- it takes place right after he becomes Spidey so....wait...RARGH -- that's your GA's reaction.

It's messy, and it doesn't sell a consistent theme or idea behind it.

Avengers -- Team Up Of A Lifetime
Prometheus - Ridley Scott Returns to Alien
Batman - The End of A Hero

Clear, focused ideas behind their marketing campaigns. SOLID FOCUS ideas that maybe don't always speak to the story, but they're a focused idea that can build hype.

What's building hype about Spider-Man? OMG, I can't wait to hear about the Untold origin story that was never told in the first place? No -- they need a clearer idea and tap what we are really all excited about -- a NEW TAKE on Spider-Man by a new director, a fresh start, a new evolution of the character. That should be their selling point --

NEW TAKE, NEW ORIGIN, SAME FRIENDLY-NEIGHBORHOOD HERO.

Instead, it's just convoluted.

Yeah, still the same thing to me. Regardless of the "Untold Story" tagline, all of the footage are saying this is a new take and it's quite obvious that there's a different tone, different story, cast, direct etc. Maybe people just don't care that it's a new take? They all, for the most part, loved the Raimi films, so regardless of how you sell it it's just another reboot.

Ill say it looks better than GL at least. But Im not sold yet... Not a good thing after several trailers and a 4 minute "preview" The whole scene seemed rehashed in a way, and actually kind of cheap looking to me. I love Garfield, but have always hated the hair and suit. Ruins the look and feel in my opinion.

I think its just a lil bit TOO serious that its rather funny to me.

The webswinging is phenomenal looking. Peter looked hella awkward in the first second there landing ontop of the bridge.

I'm one of the ones like totally digs the look of Garfield's Peter Parker. The thin lanky build, the suit (love the suit), and even his hair.

And agree about the webslinging, it's perfect and glorious.

Confused by this but I guess you know a lot more about the movie than most of us.

It's a good movie; it is. But, the marketing is miselling it. They're playing it up as TDK with Spider-Man and it's not.

It's just a more grounded take on the character that updates him as if Stan Lee had conceived of Peter Parker in 2012. If you can imagine that, that if Spidey was created today the science nerd = the skater outcast sorta analogies, then you got this film.

HOWEVER, selling it as some untold story is wrong -- it's the same story just told in a different way. They shouldn't be modelling themselves after Star Trek or Casino Royale, but more Batman Begins -- which said basically "hey, we're rebooting, no apologies needed"

This is a town that runs on fear. And Avengers has scared the **** out of Sony, and now they're worried about TDKR -- which is a real legit fear. That the hype around TDKR will inhibit people from wanting to go to Spidey so they're scrambling to find a message.

My God...the flack this reboot is taking is just horrendous! It's almost like people are just nitpicking for the sake of nitpicking. Granted, some makes sense. However, often it's just ********. I understand everyone is entitled to their own opinion but damn...I'll respect that.

I wish Webb was the first to get his hands on the property. I think the adversity this film has to overcome is just un-necessary. And to top it all off, most of it is what "fans" wanted and complained about the lack of being implemented into the Raimi films.

You can never win.

That's the moral of this story.

No, a lot of people DON'T. Comic fans and people who follow this stuff do -- but your GA, your kids -- they do not get that this tone is different or off.

They just see another Spider-Man movie.

Personally, can't wait - new favorite line... ever...

"But, when your past is a mystery, how do you ever stop looking? For the truth."

Sums up how I, and betting many other orphans/adoptees feel about the quest for knowledge and especially that of the past. To me the notion that this will be the first superhero movie to really dive into being an 'orphan' - they've got my money ten-fold lol.

I agree with this.

poorly edited, especially the new sound clips for the trailer, and that bridge scene sucked based of the video. i know it'll be way better in the actual film but good lord it was annoyingly cheesy as fck.

i mean how many superhero films honestly need the lame ass cliche of the heroes interacting with some little kid? honestly?

and the music....SERIOUSLY who the hell is giving the order that every single marketing video for anythign and everything needs to have dubstep? seriously..wtf...

I AM NOT GIVING THE FILM FLACK.

I"m giving the studio marketing division flack. They're shooting themselves in the foot. Webb and this film are better than anything I've seen in Raimi's films -- Spidey just moves cooler and some of the visuals rock.

HOWEVER, the marketing reeks of studio indecisiveness and in a summer as competitive as this one -- you can't afford that.

most people also want this to fail inspite of how it looks so they can have him in the avengers or marvel getting the rights back and thats something ive been noticing lately( dont know why I hadn't in the first place)

i mean SOME dubsteb songs are ok, but that doesn't mean use them in every friggin trailer that exists under the sun...gawd

Oh I wasn't singling you out. I was making an observation as a whole.

I will admit, the marketing for this film has been subpar at best. They got the ball rolling a little late in terms of the hype train. But I feel, as most have said, attaching this four minute preview to one of the most watched T.V. shows in America...THAT was a good marketing move.

Not gonna happen -- ever. So those people can just file that away with their dreams of having Wolverine on the team.

Agreed here. As happy I am with the footing I've seen so far, I can't deny that the marketing for this movie has been shaky.

I'm hoping the quality of this movie overcomes the initial doubt and spreads great word of mouth.

I know some adult and teenage viewers hate that - those moments - but as a writer out here in hollywoodland the reason I sometimes include moments like that and I'm betting why other writers do is it offers something more for kids. Seeing that scene as an adult wouldn't necessarily have the same awe-inspiring effect it would have on a kid. If that makes sense? Basically those moments are mainly for the children and families in the audience. As long as it fits, doesn't detract, but also adds - the hero as a good guy - it's just a 'family' kinda moment in keeping the audience seeing it in mind.

Personally, I think this scene goes above that. It's basically - "anybody can be Spider-Man." Nor completely, but awfully close. The mask does give Peter strength. Basically sums up the notion that it could be anyone under the mask - Stan's words summarized, not my own. That's partly why Spidey works.

Attaching it yes, yes -- what they attached no.

See, if you go up to a kid or a GA and say

Why are you excited to see Avengers? What would they say:

"OMG, all the heroes are gonna team up and I want to see what that looks like."

Each trailer for Avengers -- for better or worse -- SOLD that idea. Each trailer featured a trinity shot of Cap, thor, and iron man. Then the 360 shot too.

"Why are you excited for Prometheus?"

Ridley Scott is returning to Aliens. And guess what -- the trailer sells that, with a lot of class too by plastering Ridley's name on it, evoking visuals of Aliens, and then summoning that terrifying tone of "What is happening?" It stokes curiosity to see what the advertised director has whipped up in a genre he helped define.

Why are you excited for The Dark Knight Rises?

Batman may die. THis is the end of a trilogy. Batman's story will end.

Every trailer and tone and marketing material has focused on this idea. THIS IS IT! IT'S OVER.

Why are you excited for Spider-Man?

Well they're gonna tell the untold story of Spider-Man.....what? No, no one's excited about that, especially when it clearly is THE SAME STORY.

Instead, they should get people to answer "it's a new take on Spidey, with new actors, and it's going to have the lizard." So far, they've hidden the lizard (instead of having characters talking about The LIzard like the Batman trailers have talked about Bane). They are showcasing the visuals, but they should be selling it as see Spidey in a new way. Same old hero, new story. Instead, it fails to provide an answer to the question -- why are you excited for....?

Maybe because it wasn't just another stupid scene with some little kid. And I thought it looked fine from what I saw of it.

To reiterate something that I posted earlier:

Yeah, it basically was an extended version of what the recent trailer, but that entire first minute or so completely sold me.

That part with the kid wearing the mask was pretty powerful stuff ("Put on the mask. It's gonna make you strong."). It really does reinforce the idea the Spider-Man, the mask especially, represents that pretty much anyone can be a hero, no matter the age, gender or race. It's not just about the powers. It's about doing whatever is necessary to save others, even if it means putting your life on the line.

That, to me, is why Spider-Man, out of all the comic book heroes, resonates so well with me. He's just another guy just trying to do good.

The Glitch Mob isn't dubstep.
