The Amazing Spider-Man The Amazing Spider-Man General Discussion & Speculation Thread - Part 5

I love Ultimate Spider-Man. It lasted this long for a reason. It was easily the best alternate version of... well, any other mainstream comic.

Dare I say... I prefer Ultimate Peter to Amazing Peter, although that may be because Ultimate Spider-Man was the first Spidey comic I got into...

Agreed.

While I do like the concept of Brand New Day, it ruined the characters for me.

Having Peter and Mary Jane made Gwen Stacy's death pointless to me as that whole story was, while not explicitly for this reason, was done to finally have Peter get with one and just one of those 2.

Having Peter and Mary Jane break up ruined that and tainted the whole thing.

They should've retconned Gwen back in to life if that was the case.

Ten to one, Miles Morales will end up being just another clone of Peter and we get that kind of storyline when Peter does return, lol.

The Ultimate comics destroyed every single Spidey villain, imo. Doc Ock was going to be the exception until his Magneto-like powers surfaced.

I love the ultimate spider-man comic and in truth, I have no problem with Miles because Bendis is a good writer..but anyway, if ultimate comics served as a way for younger audiences to get into the mythos and into comics, is it really fair to say they ruined certain villains? I mean, it's a new interpretation of classics and it does nothing to diminish whatever was/is going on in the 616 universe. I'm not a huge fan of the goblin's design but I love Norman's character. I love what Bendis did with venom/eddie and the kingpin. If the point of the universe was to put a new spin on comics that, let's be honest here, weren't selling, then why not do something different instead of going with something that's been done before?

The funny thing is, they had been trying for years to break those two up but even now, as characters they just fit together and the only way a feasible relationship can work for him is if it's with MJ and that's not me saying it as a fan, but just observing how they're both written and who those characters are, it makes no sense for Pete to wind up with anyone else because it just wouldn't work

SO basically from what I can see in the trailer, Spidey gets set up by the police!

He catches the car thief, pins him to the wall, a cop tries to shoot spidey and shoots the car thief!!!

That dodging was the BEST part of the trailer for me!!!

I think to a point, yes, because the villains should have at least have some intelligence to it without just looking like a kid actually created the new looks/designs/ideas of the Ultimate versions of the 616 villains.

Ah ok I got you..well we just disagree on that one, no problem there. I can't remember being vehemently against every design I saw and at the time, if I had to pick between ultimate and amazing it was ultimate all day because it was the better book at the time, at least in my eyes but I can't begrudge you for feeling how you feel

I thought you'd be someone on my side with this argument, haha.

Haha, sorry. :funny:

Although I have recently started getting back into the Amazing comics, I've decided to start with the Spider-Island storyline. :woot:

Good story..have fun with it, man. Spidey has definitely been a good book since Slott took over as the sole artist

Same here. But I was and still am a big fan to the ultimate series. I love it then and I still love it now. Miles Morales is a really good character as Spidey and I really love how Bendis is using him.

Trust me, you're going to really enjoy it! Slott has been one of the best writers on ASM in recent years.

I can understand why u guys would dislike Ultimate Spider-Man but to completely hate it? idk.

also Peter and MJ did get back together and Gwen also came back from the dead. but it was confusing it seeme dlike she was a clone but they said the way her DNA was or something like that she was the genuine thing and not a clone. Had something to deal with how carnage absorbed her life and what not.

and for those of u who think Miles was just a cheap way to make money and that he is a copy of Peter, trust me he isn't.

He is VERY unique and actually pretty friggin badass. A worthy successor to Peter and is shaping up to be a hero deserving of donning the Spider-Man mantle.

Miles is TOTALLY different form Peter but also appears to have qualities in terms of personality that are somewhat similar.

I defend the Ultimate universe cause honestly for me, it did what it set out to do: Allow younger readers to enjoy spidey stories without worrying about 40 + years of character history and development(despite the fact I somewhat got caught up anyway over the years via ultimate guide books and the power of the internet)

I was 9 when volume 1 of USM was released in graphic novel from And It was my first time ever reading Spidey stories in order (before then I only had an issue of SSM which was part 2 of the story "Goblins at the Gate")

And I feel in love with USM. as time went on the only AMZSM comic I got was the graphic novel format of the story involving 9/11 and Aunt May discovering Pete was Spidey. And long satory short I missed out on alot of both USM and AMZSM but I rad whatever I could here and there and looked some info up on the internet.

I like USM.

Just not the new USM.

No Peter = No Spider-Man, IMO.

After JMS's run and before Dan Slott, USM was my FAVORITE version of Spidey. now I love ASM and USM equally.

And becuase I technically grew up reading USM "The Death of Spider-Man" story arch hit me kinda hard. Every time I read issue #160 and issue #1 of the Fallout series(specifically when the little girl asks Aunt May if she wants a hug) makes me cry EVERY TIME.
Heck, just discussing it with fellow comic fans gets me teary eyed.

And at first I was weary of a new Spider-Man but ever since I was a kid I always wondered what it would be like to have a world where Peter Parker dies, and Bendis has given us that world and has introduced a new Spidey.

If you haven't read the Death of Spider-Man, Ultimate Fallout:Spider-Man No More, and the new USM comics with Miles Morales, I HIGHLY recommend you at least check it out and give them a try. see if you like it. I'm telling you Miles is not as bad as you guys think. Especially if you haven't read his comics yet.

This

At least Miles should have a different name, much like Reilly calls himself Scarlet Spider.

Miles is no where near capability to take on the mantle of THE Spider-Man.

Have you even read Miles' stories? USM 1-6 so far? or are u just basing your opinion on stuff you either A: heard from other people or B: what you THINK you know about the character without actually reading any of the books or looking up accurate info on him for yourself?

The main theme of the book so far is Miles acknowledging that he's not worthy of the mantle, and trying to work his way to being worthy. It's been good so far, if a little decompressed.

I haven't read them myself and in fact didn't know they killed Peter off until a few days ago. need to catch up on trades, way behind now. :(

I will say that a middle schooler seems a little young to be out superheroing tho. At least with Power Pack there were 4 of them.

I'm not bothering to read it, and I don't really care what is up with Miles and his story, but just the idea of a little kid running around trying to be Spider-Man is pathetic.

Call me when Peter Parker returns :o

So it's okay when Peter Parker was a kid and did it, but when someone else does it it's pathetic? New does not always equal bad.

THIS.

I mean Pete was 15. Miles is 13. whhoooooo2 years younger than when Pete started. such a biiig deal -.-

I mean I admit when they first announced he was 13 i was all "meh" but after giving i a chance and reading it, i'm hooked
