I found a scene that was apparently cut from the trailer:

From the looks of it...

It's a deleted scene from Spider-Man 3. Not sure why it was cut out, it would have fitted right in.

In the origin comic (Amazing Fantasy 15) I believe that Peter was Spider-Man for a time before Ben was murdered. During that time he did the wrestling bout (no costume, but disguised) with Crusher Hogan and after that was on some sort of television show (with his usual costume), just using his powers for personal gain. So if his beginnings are done in a similar fashion within TASM I won't be too upset about it.

I know about his origin. I think I expressed myself badly:

What I meant with him being "Spiderman" was "Spiderman, the masked vigilante who's taking out crooks" as does the kid imply when he asks if the cops managed to catch him yet.

I have no problems with Peter having the powers before his uncle dies, it's how it happened in the comics. I'd have a problem with him already having his superhero persona fully built-up without the obvious trigger that started it all: his uncle's death.

That's what I was saying the other day. I can't think of any reason why he'd be busting baddies while Ben is alive. Ben's death is what make Spidey's crusade go, and to be fighting crime without it would be ridiculous.

I think it can still work if crime fighting starts out as self gratification. Everyone calls him a menace, so he starts letting criminals go. Then when Uncle Ben gets murdered, he continues, no matter what anyone might think of him.

In the 5 issue series With Great Power, Peter actually does do some crime fighting before his uncle dies, iirc.

I can't see it. All heroes need a real reason for doing what they do, and for Spider-Man to do it for no reason at all is ridiculous.

One reason I can think of is venting his frustration on criminals. He's the guy that often get bullied by stronger kids in school, once he gets his powers, suddenly he becomes the bully. Without even realizing it. If that's the direction, I can totally buy into it.

Huh? While they may not be the best reasons why, they are reasons WHY he would do it:

- Fighting crime because he... y'know, now can with his powers

- Venting frustration out on others. He's no longer the person being picked on

Uncle Ben taught Peter the lesson of responsibility, he didn't tell him to go and be Spider-Man. Peter can quite obviously be irresponsible as Spidey until Ben dies. Then he'll start being the hero he's supposed to be, not the one he wants to be.

I think Peter is going to start out doing things as Spidey, trying to one-up the police. Stacey might be completely justified in hunting him down because he's causing more trouble trying to take things into his own hands instead of working with the police. Ben doesn't have to die for Peter to become Spidey. I really hate this whole resistant to change vibe I'm getting from a few people. The spirit of Spider-Man is clearly here in this trailer and I don't see it being dishonest to the sources at all.

This is what I'm thinking will happen.

Agreed completely.

Agreed.

Personally I think it will go down like this: Peter gets his powers and initially uses them to fight crime, but in a reckless, more self-satisfying way. Doing it more for the fun and thrill of it rather out of any sense of moral obligation. So when he finally has enough of being bullied by Flash Thompson, he doesn't hesitate to beat the crap out of him and humiliate him for revenge. Uncle Ben gets on Peter's case about it, which makes him mad. As a result, he goes out that night with an attitude of carelessness, and decides not to bother stopping the robber who runs right past him.

The more I think about it, the more I think it works. In my opinion, it hits all the same beats as the original story. It actually seems more natural and subtle, as opposed to just saying 1) He gets his powers 2) He becomes a selfish jerk 3)He learns not to be a selfish jerk and becomes a superhero.

In this case, it's about him having to grow out of his immaturity. The power and responsibility theme still applies, in fact maybe even more strongly here than in the original story.

Plus we don't have to sit through any painful wrestling scenes. Hopefully.

What? It's online. lol

EDIT: I mean, online in bookstores.

Ahem.

Yeah.

The wrestling scene could still work. The could get a WWE wrestler like Triple H, Big Show, John Cena or CM Punk ( who is a comic book nerd). As long as its not too campy or cheesy.
