The Amazing Spider-Man The Amazing Spider-Man General Discussion & Speculation Thread - Part 5

It would be easier with more than 3 films. Otherwise they're going to have to retread the same material and feature Goblin again too heavily, too early. He can be teased or introduced in 1 or 2 but I'd love to see him fully in a 3rd film of at least 4.

Edit: Ignore - think I came in on a really old discussion there lol. Bloody mozilla!

You people seem to like criticism alot, what are you Simon Cowell?

It looks like Spider-Man swinging through a city, what more do you want? Consider the fact they only had a year to make that movie and all the other special effects in it.

Yeah, the last swing in the first Spider-Man film looks better but I would like to see you do a better job on a movie in the time they had.

Man...that looks worse than I remember. What happened to that scene? The final swing for SM2 used to be my favorite. It looks so...fake now. Like, it's painfully obvious that it's fake. Spider-Man looks fake, the helicopters look fake, the city looks cooke-cutter basic, and the movements of Spidey are so floaty.

At least the final swing for SM1 is still awesome!

That floaty look was the one of the main problems with the original series' swinging scenes. Sure it looks like Spider-Man, and all those classic poses and such are there, but you aren't fooled for even a second into believing that it's an actual person on screen. Raimi's approach was that he should look like a graceful dancer, which sounds good, unfortunately it results in a look that seems unnatural and unrealistic (and yes, I know there's nothing realistic about Spider-Man, but you know what I mean here). To tell you the truth, those scenes always took me right out of the movie. One second I'm watching a live action film, the next second I'm watching animation.

Luckily, Webb and his crew specifically stated that one of their goals for the web swinging is to to actually give him weight and to show the effect of gravity on his body. And just based on what we've seen so far, it looks like he's accomplished that. In many of the shots in the trailer, I'm honestly not sure whether I'm seeing the practical stunts or the CGI. Most importantly, it doesn't clash with the look of the non-action scenes.

Four films would be my preference for this series as well as having Green Goblin in the third film

I mean, Raimi wanted to go to four films, maybe even five and six...and four would be perfect for the Webb/Garfield combo.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 - Electro as the villain while introducing Mary Jane Watson, Norman and Harry Osborn and J. Jonah Jameson.

The Amazing Spider-Man 3 - Green Goblin as the villain and the death of Gwen Stacy comes to fruition, while also introducing Betty Brant and Robbie Robertson.

The Amazing Spider-Man 4 - Mysterio is the villain and we get hints of the relationship of Peter and MJ, but they remain as friends during the film to show the audience how these two become an item without us seeing it since we saw it already with Raimi's series.

Sorry if I made it seem that way but I wasn't trying to bash the Raimi movies. The final swing didn't look too great but it was still kinda cool and the movie itself was still very good. Also, there is a nitpick thread for the new movie, why can't we share a tiny little nitpick that didn't change the quality of the movie for the old ones?

After seeing both of those final swings, I"m really happy they're going with practical/cg swinging. While I do like the first one, they both just look too fake.

That clip was pretty awful. I wouldn't have shown that clip Sony...come on.

@chaseter: No it wasn't. Not sure why this one 46 second clip is getting torn apart by everyone. It was better than every one of Bruce Campbell and Tobey Maguire's interactions in the previous trilogy.

No over the top acting.

No cheesy dialogue.

I like it.

It felt like a botched attempt at giving us Delocated/Curb Your Enthusiasm type of humor.

The entire scene feels uneven and something that should remain on the cutting room floor.

chaseter and craigdbfan don't like the clip.

Big surprise there. :funny:

I enjoyed the clip myself. It doesn't pour with cheese-like humor that Raimi's films had.

And I suppose it's that night that Peter tells Gwen he's Spidey? His costume is in his bag.

Hey, that's Lou from Rescue Me! :D :D

I enjoyed the clip, Garfield is playing a good Peter.

The clip's fine. Not amazing but nothing bad. Garfield seems natural in it.

That would work for me

Don't want to see any villains outside of Goblin repeated. Ock's been done well. Venom hasn't (but I think he's one of the most difficult to get right). Sandman not needed again.

The way you describe the Gwen MJ situation and introducing the background characters gradually, I think the GA could accept the reboot and enjoy both sets of films.

Troy Parker loves it...no surprise there.:dry::dry::dry::dry::dry:

You really think that was an awesome clip? That the first clip of the movie was that...makes you really excited to see it?

And you think it's funny that I thought it was dull. No there's the joke.

TOMG HE BATTLEZ DOORMAN

LULUL U COPY ME SO FUNNY

I'd watch both trailers first. As y'know... they show a little bit of all aspects of the movie. And actually, yes. I would be excited to see it after seeing this. It means I have dialogue and acting that isn't over the top and cheesy to look forward to.

Out of curiosity, why are so against pretty much everything in this movie? Bitterness towards the lack of Spider-Man 4? Or you just don't like it?

I can handle the latter, but the former seems really childish.

Love the new clip :D

I seriously have no doubt that I am going to absolutely LOVE this movie :p

I'd say just from looking around at a couple different sites, a majority of people seem to like the clip. So it's not just a handful of us on here. :cwink:

Seemed like a weak attempt to replicate Larry David's Curb humour, tbh... I'm really excited for the movie, but that was a stupid clip to tease us with.

I was thinking the same thing, except for some minor details. For the sequel, I agree that Electro should be the villain; MJ is introduced; and the Osborns are introduced. But I would also introduce the entire Daily Bugle staff (JJJ, Brant, Robertson). And for the third, I also think GG should be the villain, and we get the iconic story of Gwen Stacy.

Erm, I would've preferred if we never got to see the "intimidating doorman". Especially now. That guy is so annoying. The acting seemed rather stiff too, for some reason, like they were rehearsing that scene for the first time and Webb just said: PRINT IT!.

I think some nice editing can save that scene, while still retaining the charm of the "your doorman's intimidating" payoff later.

Come on Webb, you still have time to cut this the right way...

I didn't mind the clip. It's not necessarily going for laugh out loud humour, but what would be a straightforward entry into a building escalates into something, and we see an awkward/nervous Peter which was quite endearing.
