The Amazing Spider-Man: The Game - Part 1

If i remember right, he was Spider-Man shortly before Uncle Ben died, at that point he used his powers for a good cause, dunno what direction they're approaching that from this new film though. Either way, I think the film is gonna be really good

I think we're going to have to wait until the film is almost out to find out if Ben is dead before or after Peter is Spider-Man.

The trailer hints that he is Spider-Man before, but the teaser shows Peter sewing his costume with a picture of Uncle Ben's killer on the wall in front of him.

It's all up in the air right now.

Hmmm. I did not know that. Thanks for the heads up.

I'm way more interested in the movie than in the game. I mean I hope that the game will be great, but ultimately all I want is still just a great free roam Spider-Man game that sticks to the comics. If this gets good reviews or if the up-coming previews are super positive I might change into fanboy mode though.

Beenox had better start doing something to win over their fans and gaming fans in general. It's just a little more than 4 months to go before the game supposedly releases and all we have is a HD teaser trailer from two or three months ago and a crappier 'movie style' trailer with no real gameplay mechanics in it and friggin robots.

Free roam does not equal a great game. I sincerely hope that they aren't banking on the free roam aspect alone as a gimmick, for lack of a better word, to make the game sell. I believe that Beenox is able to make a great game for Spidey because I truly think that they have immense love for the character. I just need to see that pudding.

Yeah free roam in it self is not a sales pitch anymore. It was awesome in 2004 when it was a novelty. Now there is an overabundance of great sandbox games each with their own thing, so it just being Spider-Man in open world New York won't cut it, at least not since there already are four of those.

It sounds as though Beenox has done their homework for making this game. They've been studying other Spidey games including the fan faves to search for their designs in TASM. Reading about it is one thing and actually seeing it come to life is another.

Let's hope so.

I completely agree. Spider-Man 2 was innovative for the superhero genre, but we've seen good "superpowered sandbox" games time and time again. If this game wants to compete with the likes Batman: Arkham Asylum/City, the Assassin's Creed series, inFamous, Prototype, et cetera, you have to bring your "A" game in the other aspects of the game. Falling back on fun web-swinging about the city isn't going to cut it anymore.

Yea i think gravity should play more of a role. I always hated in Spider-Man 3, you could come to a complete stop, then move the character in any direction. Spidey would just float away from the building.
When it comes to sprinting upwards and he slows down to a stop?

If gravity should play more in your favor, double jump needs to be removed completely, and it's doubtful to happen.
Don't press the jump button in midair

Pretty much the same

Justified to be great?

Yea that's one instance of gravity needing to play a role, but there are others. Overall Spidey needs to have a weight to him. As I said that was one of the laundry list of problems from SM3. SD and EoT corrected this to a degree.

Arkham City reference #12,472,292 - Perfect example of gravity and weight to a character is when you perform a diving takedown on an enemy, the moment Batman makes contact with the enemy, they are completely knocked off of their feet. It's bad on when you're swinging through the city as Spidey and just from the way he controls, he could very well be flying. SM2 nailed it, and it seems that the games that came out afterwards manage to downplay that tremendously

This is where Beenox' supposed research will come in handy. They've stated that they have used past Spidey games as a point of reference for making this game. If they make TASM into an updated, HD version of SM2, we may have a winner.

That was my reaction to "just good", and to what I typed in response

Which is the fifth? S-M2, USM, S-M3 and WoS. I obviously didn't count this new one.
Vicarious Visions edition of SM3 (PS2/Wii/PSP)

which, let's be honest, all most of us every wanted anyway. Updated SM2.

A pretty big damn update. SM2 was a last generation game. They should be able to top SM2 easily. Altho, Treyarch wasn't able to with SM3, so hm, go figure.

TBH, I think that is mainly what the problem is, Activision may be too full of themselves to revert the mechanics back to those of SM2 and update everything else around that. Secondly, I feel like Beenox may just take mechanics and animations from Shattered Dimensions and apply them to an open world setting, the only thing beneficial from that IMO is Spidey's web zip which I thought was very well done in SD along with some of his combat.

Much as I defend this game, I can lessen overlooking how raw and not well baked it is

More glitches
There still are things it did better than SM2 in gameplay
[blackout]And there still is a plethora of unfair complaints, that won't change[/blackout]

If they keep the vertical wall jump introduced in SM2 off I'll be bothered
I agree about beneficial web zip

SM3 suffered from a multitude of flaws, basically there isn't any reason why aside from trying to meet the release date of the film should the game have been put out. All in all, if this game doesn't succeed (which at this point, Spidey games are walking that fine line) Activision might as well give up the rights to the character and hand them over to a developer that could do the character more justice, which may be highly unlikely as far as they are concerned.

Now, going based on the scope of the film and the fact that this version of Spidey is more "grounded" within the realm of reality to say the least, I think the game should follow suit. It would be nice if Activision would hire someone like Cyrill Raffaelli to do motion capture for Spider-Man, especially after watching both District 13 films, the guy is very well skilled in martial arts and parkour which both could benefit when applied to Spider-Man thus giving him more "natural" movement during combat, that's just my opinion

I agree with you.

Acrobatic. Realism. Natural. These are the key words that would make the combat great.

They made some upgrades from SM2 to SM3, such as the size of the city. But yeah, they also took a big step backwards with the movement and controls for Spidey. I'm not sure why they scaled things back instead of improving them. Hopefully Beenox has caught onto this and actually are listening to the fans and will correct this issue. I know many people have their issues and hatred towards EoT but that game at least began to show signs of physics issues being corrected. Spidey moved with more depth and realism than in some past games.

I'm pretty sure they've mentioned that they looked at Spider-Man 2 when making at this game, which is good. But they've also said that a lot of it is their own thing, which is better.

If I want to play Spider-Man 2, I'll play Spider-Man 2.
