The Amazing Spider-Man: The Game - Part 1

Except that Treyarch was confined mostly to adhere to the plot of the movie of SM3 (which sucked balls) and in this case, Beenox is making an original game based on the character from a movie. Pat, I know we've discussed this before, but there is a difference between the two and iI think this has created a less 'hindering' development.

Not by much. They still dont have the freedom to create the way a dev would who wasn't tied to a license. Constantly checking with Sony/Marvel on what they can and can't do will hinder your development, theres no way around that. I agree that not being tied directly to the plot helps tenfold, but dont get it twisted, these guys were not given the freedom the way Rocksteady was for their Batman title.

From a Spidey fan perspective, I think I will probably give this game a 8.5 or 9

On a normal person perspective: probably a 7-8?

As much as people are against, Craptivision, er, I mean, Activision...Beenox have made it quite clear they are big fans of Spidey and I believe them when they say they are out to make the best game yet. We still really haven't seen any unedited gameplay to prove this but the trailers seem very indicative of a great game. Time will tell. Like I said before all games have bugs, no game is perfect. That Shane guy said it seemed "buggy" but without any details, that could mean anything. And just as easily as he can say Beenox may not be able to fix them, I can say they will.

It doesnt matter how badly they want to give us a great game, the talent they have inside that studio decides that. Based on their previous work, I'm not sold in the slightest...yet. Iv said it before but they have a huge mountain to climb. You've got a license that is known having bad games associated with it, you have a movie tie in and you have an unproven development team(one solid title, and one terrible title). Id argue that in the history of ALL film based tie ins, there has maybe been one GREAT movie tie in and id say thats the Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay. One, out of the countless number of tie ins, i believe thats the highest rated movie tie in yet.
Thinking they can deliver us a great game and the Spidey game we've always wanted is a lot to wish for. I am not saying it can't happen, or that it won't happen, but i highly suggest everyone curb their excitement. Iv been caught up in the great previews as well, but I just have to take a step back and remind myself, its Activision, its Beenox, its a film tie in, its Spider-Man. Damnit if thats not a recipe for disaster i dont know what is.

With all that said tho, i think everything looks good so far, but these guys have burned me in the past and i need to keep reminding myself of that.

Haha, yea it's always tough to remove your bias from something like this.

The ranking is going off personal preference, so that part will be different for everyone. I know it's trite on here, but my list goes:

Ultimate Spider-man
Web of Shadows
Maximum Carnage
SM2
Shattered Dimensions
All other SM games

On further thought, I think ASM will fall between Web of shadows and SM2.
:funny:

I sure hope so

Boxart?

Not on their facebook page, homepage, HeroHQ, or Beenox website

That IS the official cover. Great find.

Aziz, the spider logo is just a place holder.

I don't believe any of that, I don't care how they try to spin it. Also if Beenox were pressured into making a game one year after a very similar one was released, I have no doubt in my mind that they could have been rushed to deliver ASM too. All that 4 year pre-production stuff means nothing unless specifics are involved. As stated before, they could have had 1 person working on it for the first 3 years and had the rest of the team jump on after Edge of Time was released. That's like me saying i've been working out for the past two years, when in actuality I only went to the gym once a month and lifted 10 pound weights, not very effective. Lame example but you get the point.

Does TASM look like a game that has a short development time? Does it look half-assed? I certainly do not think so.

I agree but comparing Beenox to Rocksteady is not a fair comparison in terms of their limits. It's like apples and oranges. A fairer comparison would either be between Rocksteady and say, Naughty Dog or in this case, Beenox with Treyarch.

As long as I can explore an accurate and detailed New York City without some kid screaming, "My balloon!" every five minutes, I'll be happy.

Gameplay wise Beenox has fell short of the mark in their Spidey endeavors. Things they have nailed: Overall presentation (some of the best work in a spider-man game), VA (Barnes? NPH? Keaton?--Yeah, I think that's a win), Sound and score (the music and effects have been excellent...the score in EoT was phenomenal and one of the composers is said to return for TASM). Beenox has revamped the gameplay mechanics and are using a brand new engine. All those that have reviewed the demo were pleasantly surprised.

Iv said it before but they have a huge mountain to climb. You've got a license that is known having bad games associated with it, you have a movie tie in and you have an unproven development team(one solid title, and one terrible title). .

All developers have to go thru a learning stage before they have a breakout game. Beenox has already worked on 2 Spidey games directly as well as doing ports of others. This experience will lend itself greatly to TASM and I would be shocked to see anything less than an improvement over what they've already done. They may have a giant hurdle to get over or a mountain to climb as you say, but any great story of success always has the 'struggle' attached to it. If it was easy, that diminishes the greatness.

Maybe it's time the second great movie-tie in came along...it's been long enough :cwink:

Granted it's a lot to wish for and I'm doing just that. I am a huge Spidey fan and I'll be honest in saying that by supporting Beenox on this I am taking a leap of faith. One, in which, I may end up falling flat on my face. True. But I would rather be outwardly positive about this game and I am aware of the risks. I just can't help it. I love what I've seen so far and I have every excuse to be excited.

Activision has burned you...not Beenox. I don't credit EoT as a burn cause I think anyone with a functioning head on their shoulders could have predicted EoT would not do well. I liked it because I was surprised how good it was based on the development time. If TASM blows donkey balls, I will consider myself burned by Beenox and write them off. Until then, I stand firm in supporting them.

Beenox gave me one mediocre Spider-Man title and then turned around and handed me one of the worst Spidey games iv ever played(great voice acting aside). I wouldn't want to play another SD or EoT. Beenox is 0 for 2 in my book.

The way I see it, you won't have to. TASM will be better than both SD and EoT combined.

From what iv seen/read, id agree completely.

I mean heres my list of things i wanted in the next Spider-Man game, prior to ASM's announcement.

Free Roam

More realistic art style

Grounded, more realistic combat that took a lot of cues from the Arkham games.

Better camera(or hell a camera that just worked like it was supposed to)

Classic Spidey villain, preferably Osborn, as the main villain.

As it stands now, it appears ill be getting 4 of those things, possibly 5 as we have NO idea how the story is going to play out. The only reason I'm not doing back flips yet, is because i haven't seen some of that stuff in game, uninterrupted. Everything we have seen has been in the middle of a flashy trailer designed to make every thing look as good as it possibly can.

As iv stated, i think everything sounds great so far, but based on my previous experiences with this company, I'm not ready to hand over my 60 bux yet.

I agree with those 'wants.' And I'm sure most of us that are invested in this game would agree. I doubt Osborn will be the main baddie...it's possible, but I still highly doubt it. He may be mentioned in one way or another since Oscorp is in the game but I'd be very surprised to find GG as a villain. I'd be drooling if that was the case.

I am waiting to see some of that too. That's what I have been wanting to see so very badly and ultimately we can make a much better judgement on the game with that info. Maybe we'll get some during PAX in the first week of April. I hope.

Trailers are designed to make stuff look way cool, but at least most of what we've seen is actual gameplay and not cut-scene material.

Yea, theres no way in hell Osborn shows up in the game before he does the film. Im assuming Osborn will be a big part of The Amazing Spider-Man series going forward after this first film.

Still, it'd be soooooooo great if he did.

I want to get a consistent true to Manhattan design, every other free roam game in Manhattan displayed different arrangement and designs for buildings, and WoS design of the Flatiron building was far off

I wouldn't want to play another SD or EoT. Beenox is 0 for 2 in my book.
I expect more games in the vein of those two to fill in between TASM and the upcoming sequel

I'd say 4.5, I'm sure Beenox will only use classic villains, but not Norman in this game

There's that thing
Can you do back flips? I wish I could
