The Amazing Spider-Man: The Game - Part 4

Something else I'd like to see return is the webstrike from WOS, the one that let you bounce over an enemy and then target a second enemy. All you need is a limit on the number you can chain together. 2-3 tops. It was ridiculous in WOS when you were required to webstrike 30 people in a row.

Thats in this game. You can webrush an opponent, kicking him in the chest, then immediately target another enemy.

Yeah, no idea how people could NOT enjoy the combat and over all feeling you get from this game. To me, that would be like getting a great Superman game and then having someone say...

"You know what guys.. I just really don't like how powerful you feel in this game. Also.. What's up with having to fly all over the place."

Haha exactly.

Yeah but it's not quite the same. It might not matter to some, but to me it makes a big difference not being able to bounce over the enemy. You can only bounce back in the direction you came from if I'm not mistaken. The Wos way allowed you to progress in a straight line across a large space by hopping between enemies. Plus the animation was better. You could start in front a guy, webstrike, bounce off of him into a series of flips, and land in a pose behind his defeated body.

So....I just now did the second Rhino boss fight, dunno how I overlooked it the first time, but um........did Spidey kill him when he through the ground like that??? If so, this game raises up to a 9.0 in my book

Yea im scratching my head as well. This is the combat system iv always wanted for Spidey. Sure it could use a little polish, but damn its fun and looks good to boot.

I love after a room clearing brawl, i pan the camera around spidey to see everyone either webbed to the wall, ground or ceiling. It just looks great.

Do you think it'd be cool if Beenox added combat challenge maps?

I think that would be cool, like Pat said, there's nothing more satisfying than to have a room cleared and thugs either webbed or hung up all over the place, think of it as a form of abstract art lol

It truly is quite satisfying, lol. Ha, now that you made the absract art comment, I've got an idea...I'm gonna start using the camera to take pictures of my combat victories, showing all the webbed up enemies and save 'em in my photo album. :woot:

After beating the game, a portion of the end reminded me of an early 90s issue of spider-man with judas traveller.

In the issue, spidey has to stop the city from being destroyed, and much of the issue takes place in this possible future as spidey is fighting with judas to keep it becoming an actual reality. I actually think it'd be really cool to havevt least a section of a game take place in a post-apocalyptic city. It'd be a nice way of making it feel like a new game...where each game taking place in the same city gets old (which is why beenox tried changing things up).

I rather have some post story DLC but yea id buy some combat challenge maps.

My list for what I would like to see Beenox add/change to ASM:

* Make random crimes, seekers, rooftop snipers, etc. continuous.
* DLC story missions
* Combat challenge maps

Yeah, this pretty much sums up what I posted on the previous page. I like the way Beenox handled the combat...Spidey should be able to kick ass without too much of an issue especially when it's just a bunch of human thugs/enemies.

Finished the story mode earlier today, but I made sure to leave plenty of the side missions open to keep me going for a few more hours. I enjoyed the story for the most part. The only thing that really made me laugh was hearing the Lizard snarl with an accent. I have no idea whether or not we'll get that in the movie, but it's just kinda funny to hear such a menacing looking creature talk with an accent.

Overall, I really enjoyed the game. It's not perfect, but it's the Spider-Man game I've been hoping Beenox would make, and it certainly set a nice foundation for them to build upon with future installments. The graphics/animations of his swinging are amazing (no pun intended). I really feel like they nailed the physics of what it would be like to have that kind of power.

Looking forward to some DLC in the coming weeks.

I also love the fact that his combat is adapted from the luche libra style of wrestling. Head scissors, suplex, etc - awesome.

Just finished the storymode BTW did anybody watch the little thing at the end of the Credits?

1000'd the game today took about 20 hours. Id absolutely love combat challenge rooms, they're my favorite part of AC

Are people really complaining about the combat being too much like AC's? Wow! That's ridiculous!

First of all: free flow fits Spidey like a glove and instantly when I played Arkham Asylum, I thought "This is the combat system Spidey should have". I'm really glad Beenox added it.

Copying things from other games happens all the time. Health system from Halo, cover system from Gears of War, free flow from Arkham Asylum, etc. etc.

I'm at Chapter 8 or 9 now and so far, I think there are alot of problems but still alot that I really like. The game really does get better with time.

EDIT: I don't agree about the Black Cat mission though, it was cool but the boss battle was very lame IMO

What are the problems you're talking about? Also, what do you think of Beenox' version of the free flow system?

I'll put up a whole fan review when I've finished the game but so far:

* The graphics. Great at times but way too uneven. Some textures are just really bad. So are some character models. I mean, the cross species should look intimidating but they just look lame to me. First, they look too small to me. Secondly, they look too "clean" somehow, it's hard to explain. Vermin looks especially disappointing to me.

* The first parts of the game are just bad IMO. Luckily, it gets better with time but it did take some time before I could enjoy it, which is a minus for me.

* The web swinging feels great at times, especially when you let fall and then swing near the streets and feel the vertigo. But I can't help but feel that there is something missing. I'm not only talking about connecting to the air, but it just feels a bit too slow. When Spidey releases the web, he goes way too vertical up which slows you down alot. When you release it earlier, he goes more straight forward but with some weird animation like you're not meant to swing that way in this game.

* This is just a nitpick that doesn't affect my rating that much, but the wall crawling is way too slow. Sure you can run up the wall but the crawling itself still needs to be a bit faster.

* I think the camera is great, but sometimes while swinging it gets a little annoying and hard to control.

* One of my major complaints about this game so far is that it awfully too many times feels automatic. The boss fights aren't as bad as I thought they'd be after reading some comments about it, but they're still very disappointing. S-02 for example is really epic...to watch. But when you play it, it's way too easy and simple. The game gives you no time to figure out what to do on your own. IMO, during boss battles it would have been much more fun if you could use your smarts and not be held in your hand by the game all the time.

* It really would need some variety when it comes to villains. The only human villain you face is Black Cat (with the exception of Allistair), who to me was very uninteresting as well. Sure, they couldn't use some villains but here's what I'd do: I'd let Scorpion be a "human" Spider Slayer. I'd have Allistair and his team create the scorpion suit and give to Mac Gargan, call him the Scorpion (seen as the ultimate spider slayer) and have him out there only to kill Spider-Man and no one else as his target. That would have been SO much better I think and would totally make sense in the story and setting as well. Making Scorpion another lame cross species was really a waste of potential.

About the combat:

It's really great. It's definitely not as smooth as in the Arkham games, not by far even. But it's still easily the best thing about this game if you ask me. Also, they don't just copy everything, Beenox adds their own ideas to it, which I think some people seem to ignore when they complain. I love that they took inspiration from Sam Raimi's fight style when Spidey fought thugs. Also, to have Spidey be able to finish them off in one blow each when reaching a combo number is awesome because that's really how strong Spidey should be. I love to just watch the webbed up enemies when finishing a room of thugs. The webs and the way they hang there is perfect! The animations are perfect as well. The upgrade system is great.

I get what you mean about it feeling too slow at times. But I also found that it relies on some good physics too which imo is how the swinging should be. If you do a fall from a large distance you build up speed and it carries thru the swing even if you let go early and go forward. I also don't ever really just swing cause I'm constantly mixing up the swinging with the web rush...the locomotion is just spot on for Spidey when you get proficient at using the combined efforts of both.

It's kind of disappointing about the boss fights cause Beenox has done so well with them in their past games. They're not terrible by any means in ASM, imo, but like you say, they're quite easy...even on superhero mode.

This is one of those things were the game is held back by the rules of a movie-tie in game. Beenox did what they could but unfortunately they had to stick to the cross-species and no A list villains. The next game should be good and we'll get GG, maybe Morbius too.

I'm confused by your wording here for some reason. Probably just me reading it weird but you mean that the combat in ASM is close to Arkham or far from it?

Are there hidden golden spiders and the Web of Challenge like Beenox's other Spidey games?

No. But there are a lot of hidden magazines and tech pieces and photos you have to take during each mission.
