The Amazing Spider-Man: The Game - Part 4

I hope Beenox keeps tabs on all the forums around the internet. I've been reading tons of posts from several different sites and they all pretty much have a few things in common. The biggest common factor that shows up in just about every post...people want random crimes to stick around infinitely.

I wouldn't mind DLC that makes random crimes spawn indefinitely and mixes it up with some new crimes and side missions.

A good idea to keep it fresh would be crimes that have different details every time (well almost). Like say you stop Rhino robbing a bank one time and the next bank robbery is Black Cat or Shocker or some random thugs, or the next time you fight Rhino he's chasing down an armoured money truck.

Some of those signature moves just feel devestating the way he fires the web at thugs

Yea the combat looked awesome in this game. Why it took them this long to implement a system like that just confuses the hell outta me

Different levels and chapters have different settings, no natural progression of time. After you beat the main story you can set it to 6 different settings.

Sooooo... no gameplay during the night? lol

I'm pretty dissapointed with the game. It's such a rip off of Arkham city it makes the game so much less fresh and fun. If they had maybe 6 more months to polish the game it may have come out smoother. Everything is choppy from the combat to the wall crawling. You guys don't find the stealth areas a chore, it's basically the same animation every time. It's not as fluid as arkham city and the swinging is just like driving a car, just press the gas and you go.

He can't hold on to the web when swinging he just automatically lets go, can't boost or lower himself or swing around poles. It just feels like a kids game in some aspects. The game just feels rushed and unsatisfying to me. It might be worth a play through but that's it. I'm not trying to hate but I guess I'm dissapointed because I expected Beenox to put out something a little more solid. It's def just a rent, I regret buying it.

Listening a sample of the game soundtracks, it beats what I heard from the movie tracks till now

Um...he's able to raise and lower his swing, now as far as saying the game is a rip-off of Arkham Asylum is a bit harsh. And generally people fail to realize that alot of title's out there borrow elements from other games. Call of Duty and Medal of Honor share the same elements, same goes for Battlefield. How many free-roam vehicle style games play like GTA??? Let's see, True Crime, Mafia 2, Saints Row, and if you wanna go over the top with it.....Crackdown. Just because a game borrows an element doesn't mean they're ripping them off, they using what may work best for the character. Honestly, the memorizing combo bit for Spidey was getting really old, really fast, and to anyone who has played a majority of the previous games will tell you this new gameplay style is fresh and new.

Movie Tie-in games already have strikes against them for being rushed to meet the deadline of the film, earlier interviews indicated they were working on the game for 2 years, compared to previous Spidey games, it shows. Just sayin bro, but hey, hate it or love it, that's on you.

Right I understand but I feel it's just not polished enough to be an A+ game and anyone thinking about buying it should know that. You're certainly right regarding games taking ideas from others, but we all know Saints Row and Mafia won't ever be as great as GTA. Kudos to Beenox for trying, but in the end all it really boils down to is a nice try.

I'm gonna treat it as a good attempt, and your right as well, the game isn't as polished as they may have wanted it to be, but I treat this game as a prototype to future Spider-Man games. They did alot of stuff in that 2 years time and I can honestly say this game compared to the previous titles show that they're really trying to push the envelope for the character. Arkham Asylum and Arkham City are great games, they definitely made their mark in games, or superhero games for that matter. You have to take into accounting that Rocksteady wasn't bound by any film, those 2 games have nothing to do with the 2 Nolan films, therefore Rocksteady had free reign to do as they pleased. I'm not sure how much dev time they may have had, but I believe it was prolly alot more than Beenox had.

Couldn't agree more. Nicely said.

Stuff like that even applies in everyday life, if someone gives you task to do and they give you as much time as you need to complete it, you're gonna generally do a better job as opposed to having a clock ticking and the pressure of not meeting a deadline interferes with your performance. Beenox had the film hanging over there head so the clock started when they were told that a game will need to be produced to coincide with the film

I think it depends on what you were looking to get out of a Spider-Man title. I mean any one who doesnt understand the reasons we can't and will never get a Spider-Man title the likes of an Arkham City just doesnt understand how Activision works. I felt ASM was solid to great in just about every aspect that i looked for in a Spidey game. Fun combat, great web swinging, solid story, alt outfits, free roam etc. IDK, maybe my expectations were so much lower than everyone which lead to my high levels of praise for this title. Id give the game no lower than a 9.0 and I'm generally far more astute than others at judging a titles quality. A month or so before this game came out I actually claimed this titles meta score would be around the 75 mark(its meta score is a 74). Yet i wouldn't give it anywhere near that score because it hit all the marks i wanted for a Spidey game, again i think its what ya wanted out of it and for me, i got all that.

IMO, Beenox has created THE single most important feature ever to hit a Spidey game and that being the web rush. That system should never, ever be removed from a Spidey title. Never have i been able to be running down a hallway, jump to the ceiling, wall crawl, then jump to the ground right behind a thug as easily as i could here. Hell i dont think that was possible at all in other games. The camera would get wonky going from one to the other, but with web rush you know exactly where you'll land and facing what direction. Its a perfect system for this character. I can't give Beenox enough credit.

Yeah that feature alone gives one of the most spectacular experiences while playing as Spidey. If anything, it makes you feel like Spidey and feel like a director creating a badass action scene. Web Rush takes even the most tedious task such as catching thugs in a stolen car so much fun, why? Because you know there is no chance in hell they are getting away from Spidey. It really gives you a big advantage over enemies, people may complain that the enemy A.I. is dumb, but hell, even in the comics, Spidey would acknowledge thug's stupidity.

Looking back on what all Beenox has provided, I totally forgive them for Edge of Time, and even the developers openly admitted that the game was handled by a small team and the rest of the team was working on ASM, doesn't take a blind man to see that alot of time and effort went into the title. I knew before the game released that it wasnt gonna be Game of the Year or Editor's Choice, but in my book, this game is never leaving my collection.

Words cant explain how much of a badass I felt taking down a large group of thugs and not getting touched a single time

I actually enjoy this more than I enjoyed AC. For me, AC was a let down... I still believe AA is the better game in almost every way. Not saying AC is bad.. But I'd take Asylum over it... And I know that's "bad" to say... But I'm gonna say it anyway.

It's really amazing how awesome that feature can be when you become proficient at using it during combat. Mix in web rush with the web rush retreat and you can make Spidey move just like in the comics. What I really like is how they make Spidey's fighting style feel very organic...it's not Batman-like where he's using martial art style blocks, punches and joint manipulation. It's more a free wheeling based system and using his acrobatic abilities to take out foes.

What difficulty setting were you on? I started the game day one on superhero mode and after a while I was able to achieve the same feat. It's awesome to be able to clear an entire room and actually feel like Spidey. Just for sh_ts & giggles, I decided to try the Hero difficulty setting (that's the middle one) and see how much easier it was...wow, what a big difference. In that one room in Oscorp where there's probably like 15-20 guys standing around I finished them off without taking a hit and racked up an 80+ combo streak. lol

my first playthrough was on hero, my second one was on Superhero. I dunno, for some reason, I like playing it normal first, and then the second playthrough on higher difficulty levels to see what they improved on as far as A.I. I guess I just like observing things to fullest, guess that's why its so easy for me to read people lol

Where Batman puts them down in a brutal yet martial arts oriented manner, Spidey makes a complete fool out of his opponents, kicking a guy sky high and then shooting webs after him pinning him to the ceiling, too funny. In a hand to hand fight, Spidey would kick ol Bat's ass, jus sayin

I have no choice but to agree with this about the web rush being needed to stay

Before I play it, did they do something about the combat making it possible to hit one before Spider-Man and countering one from behind or beside in one single blow? Like Spidey tossing the one in front of him one the other guy him? Or jump kick and punch two with one blow?
