Superman Returns The American Way?

ummm.....hatebox.......actually I find the other news channels and outfits biased towards the left!!

They'll spin and word stories to make Bush look bad......to focus more on the negatives..........I think Fox is pretty fair.........they usually get guests from both sides to debate the issues.......so it's up to the viewers to make up their own minds.......

But don't think it's funny that every new channel apart from FOX tends to be anti-Bush? Is that merely coincidence? Are you suggesting FOX is the only channel to 'tell it like it is'?

well..........

I'm not saying FOX is the only channel to 'tell it like it is.' I'm not saying the other channels are WRONG.

I'm just saying that the press and media, for the most part, seem to have an anti-Bush, left leaning bias. Some more than others ( like the New York Times ).

Just because the majority of news channels are anti-Bush, that doesn't make them right. That would be like...........the majority of reviews are negative on Superman Returns........so that means SR is a bad movie...........

There are people and organizations who hate Bush no matter what........so they will use every opportunity to bash him and make him look bad.

And, perhaps FOX does lean a little right........so what??? That just balances the other new channels..........Plus, FOX News seems to be gaining in popularity.....so they are doing something right.

A small party called the Nazis were gaining popularity 70 years ago :)

a case in point.................yes, we all hear about the bad stuff going on in Iraq. And, that is true.......there is violence and fighting and deaths still going on in Iraq............there is still much work to be done.

But, there are positive stories coming out of Iraq, and it seems the media in general pays less attention to the positive aspect.....focusing more on the negatives.

A while back, FOX News aired a special about some of the good, positive stories coming out of Iraq. If I didn't watch that, I wouldn't know about those stories...........as they get far less attention from the media.

What exactly IS the American way?

Can anyone define it?
American way= freedom

The freedom for all us here to be able to express our opinions about whatever subject we feel like.

sigh.........hatebox...........Fox News is not the Nazis!

Fox News is not some mindless propaganda tool that just praises the Bush administration 24/7!

If it were.....then it would only have positive coverage of Bush........it would only praise Bush........it would only invite guests who agree with Bush......it WOULD NOT invite guests who disagree with Bush or who have an opposing view point.........

I watch Fox News regularly.........they invite guests from both sides....and there are many heated debates........that wouldn't happen if they served the Bush administration.......if they did do that........then I would be just as concerned.....

But most of Europe has freedom of speech, perhaps more so.

So it's hardly uniquely American, is it?

^Very true, but i don't follow how that is relevant to the exclusion of "The American Way"

Why doesn't he stand for the American way anymore? The writers even said that they purposely left it out of the script. Why?

Because that line always bothered me, so they did that courtesy and it was very polite from their part.

The only credable news shows that are worth watching are the Daily Show and the Cobert Report.

Yes but America had freedom of speech before Europe hence the American way.

Try that freedom of speech thing in Europe in say the 1700's when it was established in the USA.

But if you compare the amount of time it took for Europe to get it, compared to here in America, you'll see why it is more "uniquely American".

There were countries with freedom of speech thousands of years before America was even discovered as a continent. People around the world continuously fought for their freedom for centuries before and after America. It takes more than a fictional man in tights to claim freedom as exclusive to a country.

Sincerely, all this talk is rather idiotic. Freedom? An exclusive right? Do Americans really believe they were the first to fight for freedom? Maybe the first in that continent, but almost EVERY country fought for freedom (of speech or even worse) throughout human history. If America's fathers believed in those values, it was because millions struggled for these for centuries and some even achieved them.

And on a side note, the United States today is just a child with guns. What the current governments are doing is crimes against humanity. They get to decide who is to have "freedom" (which of course translates to "being directly under US control") AND fight their wars for them? When in some cases there was not even a war to fight prior to their involvement? And, seriously, "there's still work to be done in Iraq"? What work? Kill even more human beings?

I don't want to start a political debate and I know most of you are going to tear me to shreds and damn me to hell. I just think that other voices should be heard every now and then because America is not the center of the world nor its judge and jury (and lately executioner). Like every country, the USA has fought its wars. But the whole world has done the same and Freedom is not anyone's exclusive right.

Bottomline, "the American Way" would not sit right with millions outside America. So, why include it? Superman is an American icon (he was created in America by Americans), but he's a world hero. He doesn't need a stamp. Spider-man is American too, but that flag at the end of SM1 is just painful. Ending a Spider-man movie with an American flag? Or any flag for that matter? Why? So, after all this rant, I find the writiers did well leaving that one out.

Actually, I did a research paper on this last semester and when it comes to freedom of speech, religion, and affiliation, the US vastly outweighs the EU. Not to say the EU isn't getting better, but the current jurisprudence in the EU and US reflect a higher degree of freedom in America.

Very smart post, guy
But I doubt the thread will stop anytime soon, it's like the Black Plague :( :down

My point to everyone is that Europe as it stands now has more freedom of speech, REAL freedom of speech than the US has now (although with the Bush administration blatantly in decline the press is getting better) which goes along way to explaining the original point, as well as the thread. DO I need to mention the Patriot Act? In the UK people are postiviely encouraged to question and criticize their government, which is why Blair's so-called terror laws are so deeply frowned upon and often blocked in parliament. That what real patriotism is, protecting your country from your government. On a side note that's why I liked Begins and many Batman graphic novels - the authorities are often as seedy as the criminals.

Question to ponder about: do we have Freedom of Speech HERE at SHH! ?

Wow, this thread is still alive!

Down with Bush, Up with American Values and Basic Rights!

A Texan who doesn't like Bush?

Human, you just restored my faith in humanity.

Due to all of my theads that were closed recently for not discernible reason or explanation, I think I got this question answered to a T.

LOL! ;)

Yeah, well. I have something against men who subvert the faith of the American people and claims to be Christian. Belonging to two death cults and lying to American people constantly, it just irritates me!

And don't let Dubya fool you. He is no Texan.

While, as a Christian, I like the statue. But in the end, it totally ignores what Lady Liberty is.

America was built on the freedom of religion, and while most founders where of Christian faith, and some offshoots, they respected all religions and their right to assemble peacefully.

Our country has such beautiful elegance, it just shames me at what our recent establisments have been doing to her... :(

"Give me Liberty or Give me DEATH!"
